Wood Fairy/Nymph costume ideas? -
10-18-2007, 08:59 PM
I loved the fairy wings in the threadbanger episode and I want to make a wood nymph costume. I'm planning on making the wings out of white or if I can find it light green panty-hose and then decorate them with fake leaves and .... any other ideas?
Also, I'm not really sure what the rest of my outfit should be. If you have seen The 10th Kingdom I'm going for something like how the fairies in that look. They're very naturistic (is that a real word?).
Any ideas would be very helpful, I wasn't planning on doing a costume but I just love those wings and they have influenced me to be young again!
My hair is dark brown and I have brown eyes, any ideas on how to dress up my hair, do my make-up, etc.
So basically, if there are any ideas on how to complete this outfit I would love to hear!!!

Keep with the earth tones and use leaves and sticks and stuff.
I raise my latte in your general direction,

I think it would be easy enough to take cheap slips from the thrift store (or ones you have and don't use) and just slash the hem to look raggedy. You could pin leaves on, etc.

ok.. if you want to look like the fairies from the 10th Kingdom, or in the picture I attached I would say: Buy a unitard, in nude, yellow, light green, or white (you can probably even dye a white easier-to-find unitard to light green or yellow) like in the picture I attached below. Then, in the pic it looks tie dye-ish, but in one or two colors that match that wildery-ness effect of it. OR if your handy with the spray paint just spray in dark green, light green, and browns. Besides that the costume should only consist of the wings you can make from light green, preferably lightly sparkly tights or w/e. As with your hair/make-up: I would either of the three hair-do's in the picture attached. My suggestions that are look-alikes: do a loose/messy up-do and add a flower into your hair and I would add random braids in it; or another would be long loose tossled "beachy-waves" (random braids or a flower would also work here) [See hair pic] As with your make up I would wither keep it totally natural or go all out. Natural: Nude Lip-stick, light mascara and dust sparkles; For All Out: I would do really colorful eyes and nude lips, I'd buy really long eyelashes and even use that same eyelash adhesive to glue on rhinestones, or sequins, watch this video on youtube.. she did an awesome job on her "fairyesqu" makeup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DT1GFnpT3w

So you want to look like those 10th Kingdom fairies? Get your hands on a ballerina leotard and pair of leggings. Spray and tie-dye in whatever colors you want. There have been brilliant suggestions on what to do with your hair - follow those. Most of all stick to earthy colors, green, brown, and a few glitter bright accesories. Have fun.

Thanks for all the ideas!! I'm so excited about this, I'm going out to buy everything I need today!
Oh yea, and I guess there is some confusion about the fairies. I mean the ones in the ball at the end. They are life size and are in actual dresses, not leotards. But thanks for all the tips on that anyway.

yeah, buy cheap fake leaves and sew them on an old skirt or buy one from the thrift store. maybe rip the skirt up a bit and do your makeup in a wide-eyed style. Buy a big green t and cut it up to make a wrap shirt.
Now I wanna be a nymph.
