So I found some new things in the trash yesterday while I was at work. Looked like a box full of write offs from one of the tourist shops in the mall. I picked through it and didn't find much of interest.
There was two display case things though and they were in fine shape. I don't know why they decided to get rid of them. So I grabbed them up. The only other thing I took was this lanyard. I didn't care for it but I wanted the buckle off of it.
It was all good until I needed to take the display cases home. I take the bus and didn't have an extra bag so I grabbed one of the stores bags and put them in. But it wasn't big enough to really hold both of them and let me carry both items. The bus would be busy enough and I didn't want to stick each one in its own little bag.
Then I remembered the lanyard I had found. Looking it through the handles and clipping it back on itself helped to make a useable handle that would let me carry the one bag home.

I've never seen much use in a lanyard. You can end up with so many of them from different events. So when a different purpose came up for one I was actually surprised by it. But it worked great!

So I wonder does anyone have any ideas for other uses for lanyards? Or stories in which they needed something at that moment and used what they just had lying around for an innovative workable idea?

I've used one as a temporary leash for a stray dog. He had a collar, but I needed a way to keep him close to me until we found his home. Just took off my work lanyard and slipped his collar through then put it back on. It was short for a leash of course, but usable.

Once I had to load my bicycle into our not too big car. Unfortunately it just wouldn't really fit and the back wheel still hung out of the car. As I didn't have any money on me it wouldn't help standing next to a supermarket. BUT fortunately I remembered, that I wore laced shoes. So I took one lace off and tied the boot shot. - A lanyard would have been handy.

I find there are just some things you should always keep on you.
A lanyard is a very handy one. A sharpie, a sewing kit, and my idea book are also usually on me at all times.
Its also useful if you go to a convention to bring your own lanyard. Not that they won't give you one but I find they tend to give you the really crappy ones or the ones made of that white slippery rope like cord (those always fall apart on me).
And hey if you bring your own, they can keep the one they were going to give you.

funny that you posted this today, because this morning I was thinking how useful a lanyard would have been in collage to keep my bus pass in! I always lost that dang thing and was late for class! LOL

I have my lanyard for my keys and flash drive. :D

I also put my wallet (it's tiny!) if I'm going to be transferring buses a lot!

Part of me wants to take a MILLION lanyards, connect them and weave them...

I think it could be cool :)

The weaving idea sounds interesting. It would at least be an interesting experiment. ^^
