Er.... Pretend yer a maid! : D
Or lovingly imagine- in detail- what you're going to make with the fabric? I'm not sure if that would make things feel faster or longer, though.
Cleaning suggestion: Take ALL of the clutter out into the hall, and then put stuff away. (Though, if you have cluttered shelfs/ drawers, organize those first so you have more room to put things and people won't be tripping outside your room all day.)

i just stick some music on and get to it. once you start seeing a clearence it makes you feel better and want to do more :) unfortunatly i can never be bothered to tidy my room, so my boyfriend comes over and makes/helps me do it.

Oooh, she's got your number.
OK, get a timer, and set it for 15 minutes. Throw away stuff for 15 minutes. when the timer goes off, take a five minute break. Just keep doing stuff for 15 minutes and taking breaks.
Good luck!

Play very loud, very hyper music.
I suggest Aural Vampire.

Take all of the crap out of your room, sort it into piles of Keep, Throw Away, & Give Away/Donate.
Only put back into your room what you want to keep.
That is the method a lot of proffesionals use & what I've often seen suggested in cleaning books.
When I clean my room, If I just get all of my dirly laundry out, it usually looks expontetialy better. Try that. then again, maybe you have better laundry managing skills than me ^_^

Well. . . .just get motivated. That shouldn't be too hard for you, since if you do clean your room, you could have 20 yards of fabric at your disposal. lol. But really, put on some music (inspiring music, not I-wanna-stop-and-dance-and-waste-time-music) and just dump everything on the floor. Clear off your dresser top, your bed, your desk, the bottom of the closet, and just pile it all up on the middle of your floor. Start with making the bed, then put things back in order on your desk, then your closet, and dresser, and so on. This way you get to see your progress as your pile gets smaller and smaller. Then, once everything is where its supposed to be, but you still have a bit of a pile left, it has to be garbage if it doesn't have a place, so throw it all away. Sweep and vacuum your room, and that fabric should be in your hands in no time.
At least that's what I do. My fathers in the military and my mother is strict as a switch, so my siblings and I are required to keep our rooms in such an order that they could pass a rigorous inspection.
But don't be scared off. Really, if you are motivated and trying, and focused, it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to an hour.
Hope I helped!!

Music. It's all about the music. Plus, think how nice it will be to have all that clean floor space to spread out all that fabric and make a whole new mess. Good luck!

Remoddeling always works for me. I clean when I want things moved around... Speaking of which I need to go do the same thing. Good luck.

Watch How Clean Is Your House...I swear, you'll be so grossed out, that you'll want to clean everything in the house. They have bunches of episodes on youtube, just search for 'How clean is your house episodes"
Most of them are cut into four or five segments, so you might have to search around for one that has all of the segments.

If you are having a hard time keeping your room clean, maybe your problem is more in the area of organization. Get some boxes, label them and start sorting...that way if there are things that you are not sure if you want/need then label the box to be dealt with later. Another trick is to finish one thing at a time before moving on....ie. floor, closet, etc.
Hope that helps! oh, and I always listen to music too...it makes the time go fatser!

I've cleaned mine up most of the way, I hand't cleaned it in forever, but I found the best thing was to do it by item type or by section (I did a mix) like get up all your books then get all papers etc.

Turn on music and donate a bunch of stuff.
Seeing the bags of donations in the hallway motivates me to get rid of more crap... so I can put new crap in the old crap's place.

steps to clean your room.
1. put on some music you love.
2. make some DIY projects that will be put up in your room later... some collages, art pieces, etc. or whatever floats your boat. =]
3. take EVERYTHING out. if its on the floor or creating clutter, take it out and leave it in the hallway for now.
4. take out any rugs if you can and put them outside to get some air. vacuum them well. vacuum the floors, clean the mirrors, windows, top of the fan, dusty surfaces, everything.
5. now start going through the stuff you took out.
make piles- put back in your room, trash, recycle, and sell/donate.
when you have your piles, put them in the appropriate places. and try to make the "in your room" pile as organized as possible.
6. when thats done, put up the DIY art things you made, and enjoy your new room! =D
thats what i did and my room is squeaky clean. =D
EDIT!: my room tends to have clothes EVERYWHERE. so before doing steps 2-6, put all your clothes away. it makes a huge difference.

when i have a large cleaning project i take everything out of the room. EVERYTHING. then when all you have is an empty room begin to fill it again. put the stuff you want in the room and decorate. when your done all that should be left outside of the room is trash. don't go through the trash all you will end up doing is pack it back in the room you took it out of. send it to the recycle bins or donate it whatever you want. call up some friends to help you and tell them they can have whatever they want out of the "trash" pile.

Your mum bought you 20 yards of fabric?! And all she wanted you to do was tidy your room? That's a sweet deal.
Wish mine would buy me my fabric, oops I forgot, I don't have a mother! Oh well, back to the drawing board! :p

I know a lot of people are suggesting that you take everything out of the room before starting... but what if all the other rooms in the house are just as messy? I have three rooms and a hallway in my apartment and nowhere to set the extra stuff while I'm organizing cause I need to organize all three... any suggestions?

I always use my bed to clean. Throw everything up there, and sort from there.
Have 3 bags as well- one for Trash, one for Give away, and another for Keep. Maybe a fourth bag for the things you are unsure about. =]
