hello..I just need to let some emotion out.. i figured that maybe the forum might understand..so on tusday I came home from the movies to find all my sewing equipemnt moved..which my roommates know not to realy touch..but when I woke up someone to figure out what was going on they told me that...
the third floor was having a water problem..it leaked to the second floor and then it started leaking through our light fixtures...which in itself is a serious and scary issue..whater..electricity..not so good together.
where the water leaked through into our apartment is where I my overlock and singer mahcines were resting, my patterns, and thread, my notions...all wet, all have damage in some way...big sadface...I poored out at least one or two tablespoons of water from each machine...so it sounds like a little bit of water but its enough for some serious longterm damage
my landlords didn't come down to the property till yesturday around five o'clock and basically told me that I am out of luck I am not insured through renters insurance and tried to just walk away by giving me a pat on the back..design and creating garments is my bread and butter..fully that's how I make income...I feel better today yesturday I was all upset..but I have had friends offer me loners, and I looked into a few laws and talekd with my neighbors..so really without going aaaallllll into it they new what was going on didnt't act and actually do have to replace or repair my equipment...but its already becoming a battle...
I just needed to let that out...thanks
the irony is monday I tattooed a old school handcrank singer to my foot/ankle..its kinda like a perseve/overcome/push through moment.
where there is a will there is a way

wow. I'm really sorry about the whole thing. I'm sure you will overcome all of this though. someone like you who is so dedicated to making garments is sure to pull out of it in a positive way.

I say sue them if they dn't do what they are supposed to. Espcially since they knew it was going on and failed to tell you.

Talk to someone at legal aid or if you know an attorney ask them about if you have any legal recourse, you might but I wouldn't expect a lot out of it. You have my condolences on the damage to your machines.

After the dust has settled, take a deep breath, file away lessons learned, buy renter's insurance, or at least insure your machines and start fresh. Things like that are hard; but it is experience that makes us stronger. You will find a way to make this work; we always do. Keep you chin up and get some professional legal advise.

Dude, that sucks. I am so sorry. But there's a janome sewing machine contest. . . . .the episode comes out today, but the contest rules are already on the main page. You should so do that, so then you could get a new sewing machine.

Arrrgh, that's so crappy. I'm SO sorry. It sucks when landlords don't care.

Do you have renter's insurance? If not, you may want to try to save up the bucks to do that next time...

UGH. Stupid crappy apartments.

Thank you thank you thank you to everyones advise and concerns it means a lot. I have stayed strong (no lie with a few tears) but i found from my neighbors that had cause the issue, and they had informed me that they tried to get ahold of our landlord a few weeks ago about their water issue..i got copies of their emails, written statments that they were aware of the probelm, and a written statment from the 2nd floor as to what time they had first called the landlord to let them know..so now things have turned in my favor and I woke up on thursday with my phone going off nonstop from friends and family trying to lend me their machines.
again thank you for your support, life is crazy with many ups and downs. im starting to go back up and I have learned a lot from this week
Thank you threadbanger and I hope everyoen can take a little from my misfortune to protect themselves in the long run too.

i'm so sorry!!! i would DIE if that happened to my machine ;-; if you know somebody with any legal experience, you should definitely talk to them... find out what your options are and whatnot. if your landlord knew about it all along and didn't do anything to fix it, it's their fault, and they should repay you for your property damage.

renter's insurance usually isn't that expensive, and it's worth it to have when crappy stuff like that happens. :( in my area, it's only around $10 a month. having it just in case would also avoid any BS you'd have to go through with your landlord.

your landlord sounds a lot like my old one. we (bf & i) had a really bad mold problem in our bathroom closets (think entire walls COVERED in black mold)... we'd bleach it, and it'd come back a couple weeks later... we called them so many times to tell them about it, and they NEVER came out to do anything about it, despite saying they'd show up the next day. ugh. thankfully we've moved out of that place, haha

wow, i didn't intend to write you a novel xD guess i had a lot to say, lol

I am so sorry for your troubles. It's good you have proof that they knew about the problem. I hope you can get the machines replaced without too much trouble. You're lucky to have friends who can help you out while you're without a machine. Good friends can always make a bad situation easier! Good luck, and I hope it all ends well!

Do you have content insurance?

If everything is dried out properly and not left to rust, your machines should work fine... Just give them a good oiling. Good luck.
