I got her from an estate sale this weekend. :D I paid $50.00 USD.

Her name is Miss Mariko b/c it is, in fact, a custom dress form that was made for a woman named Mariko - she passed away last November and she was in her early 90's. Now that I think about it, I remember seeing her walk back and forth from the local co-op with her little shopping cart. She did NOT look like she was in her 90's. She looked 85, tops. She loved to garden and really seemed to take pride in her house.

I did a bit of research, her late hubby was a realtor and quite wealthy, so Mariko was a bit of a spending fool!  So, there were a LOT of sewing notions and FIVE sewing machines (one a serger) and patterns that were never cut and notions and HOLY CRAP I went kind of bonkers. I think she wanted to teach herself to sew, but never quite did it. (Aw. I know.) :(

There was sooo much stuff, I was really super-overwhelmed. There was lots of kitchen-y stuff, too, but I wasn't as interested. I bought some rice bowls.

But, here's "my" Miss Mariko. (Didn't she have a great figure back in the day???)

I keep talking to her, I think I'm losing it. :)

Miss Mariko = Uber cool! (I mean both the old lady and the dressform.)

Sounds weird but this is one of the best recycling cases IMO.
Everyone should sell their stuff after they die.
(Of course, someone has to do it for you. )

Because you can't bring all your stuff to the grave.
Better leave the treasures to the ones who are still living. :)

Thanks!

You have to hit them when they're good, but if you ever see an Estate Sale mentioning sewing machines, GO. There might be fabric and stuff!

PS - just don't wave your arms around while you're near the auction part of an estate sale. My mom talks with her hands and almost accidentally bid on something! Hahahahaa!

You are soooo lucky! That is an awesome dress form, and it's really cool that you have some background info. That makes it even more special. I sounds like you really found a gold mine.
