One thing that I have used for years to destress my jeans is my Dremel tool.

You can pick one up at the hardware section of your local Wal-Mart for about $17.oo
I have a sanding bit that I se for destressing.

Using that bit you can do almost all of your distressing very quickly. Its definately worth it.
Heres an example of a pocket on a pair of jeans-

Remember when distressing, its a good idea to sew through it so the distressed area wont grow(unless thats what you want :))
