I have these Lee pants that I am trying to patch the knees with ski material. I am having a heck of a time finding a machine where I can get a pant leg up to the knee to do this. Any suggestions?

How big are your patches? You might want to hand sew it instead. Sleeve arms on sewing machines can only take so much, and pants can be so stubborn about it. Plus, the good thing about hand sewing? You can get really creative with the stitches, more so then a sewing machine unless your a stitch master on one.

Yeah, it's really difficult.
If you can manage it, turn the jeans inside out, machine sew the top and bottom edges, then hand stitch the sides into the seams.
Don't forget to use denim needles if you're sewing denim!

if you're feeling ambitious, rip the seams out of the inside or outside, do your repairs, turn the pants inside out and re-sew. this method also allows you the ability to do some custom tailoring if you want a different cut on the jeans. be sure to use quality, HEAVY-duty thread.

20 x 20cm are the dimensions of the patch(s).
For the hand stitching , what way do you think I should do it with ski material?

Hmmm...my grandmother told me to do that....that isn't a bad idea..and while I'm at it I could sow in a zipper.

If you're sewing on "ski material," try gluing it down first with some fabric glue, let it dry, then start your sewing. Since I'm guessing this is an area that sees a lot of work: I suggest an overcast stitch. However, if you feel like getting really creative, google "How to do embroidery" and read about how to make some really neat stitches!
Have fun!

My ex husband was murder on jeans. He did landscaping and was always ripping out the knees of his pants. I used to use fusible web and made "Iron on" patches cut from old jeans and then sew them on with the machine. It took some work to get the knee area and sometimes I would have to use two approaches; sew half the patch from the top and then flip the pant leg around and sew the other half from the bottom and if there were areas that I could not reach, I did them by hand. Since he didn't want big obvious patches on his pants, I patched them from the inside.

My husband is terrible for getting holes in his jeans too. He does concrete work so it just eats through them. Also he is picky and the patch has to be on the inside, go figure. Anyway, I sew around the hole with a backstitch, and then whip stitch over the edge of the hole. This keeps the hole from fraying even more and it makes for a strong patch. Both stitches are really easy and you should be able to look them up online.
