Producers was actually a movie-musical first, then stage musical, then movie-musical based on the stage version.

As far as movie musicals, I always liked Caberet. It's kind of creepy with the Nazi-foreshadowing. And of course Chicago is good. Phantom was very pretty, but meh.

As for producers, haha I totally forgot it started as a movie musical. Well, it was great enough to actually make into a musical...I don't believe that High School Musical would every become a real musical outside of the company of Disney. That's for sure.

Haha yeah, I loved the burlesque element of Caberet. Talk about good taste :P Chicago was okay as a movie. Never say the live version though T-T

Ok, ryan, thx for the tip... but I don't have cable tv, can't afford it :(

next : so it's a movie, it's not some other reality show?

My fav musicals are Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair (not to be confused with Hairspray), both movies are from the 70s (I say JCS on show in Ottawa a few years ago... I'm gonna change my sig for this now!). And for Phantom, well, I believe the first movie was made in 1933 with Lon Chaney as the opera ghost, based on a novel by Gaston Leroux... So it's waaayyyyy before Andrew Lloyd Webber transformed it into a musical...

But it's an excellent book. I have not seen the last movie though... Is it worth to rent it?

They were actually recruiting kids from around the bay over the summer on the West side. I heard it on the radio while driving to work. They really needed some talented youth. Then again they would only look for triple threats (dancer, singers, and actors...gosh, so much)

Have you heard the music from the musical? The music itself is very interesting and very dramatic (in the typical Loyd-Weber manner). I'm a fan of the original cast recording, so of course I had some issue with the singing in the movie. The movie is worth watching, I would say. The costumes, sets, and special effects are really nice to look at. The acting is pretty good. The singing is ok. I personally don't like the voice of the person who played Christine (the main female character).

Anyway, phantom is a very dramatic musical (definitely not the feel-good happy sing-a-long type). If you like ALW musicals, I would suggest renting this movie. Then if you ever see it live, you'll be able to enjoy it better.

im really caught off gaurd. im quite concerned now.
i abhor HSM. if i went to hell, i would expect HSM.
i tried watching it more than once and got through a decent part but i hated every second.
if you want to see a good musical, try RENT.
its more realistic anyway.

Yes. Hsm is totally corny.
But they have catchy tunes
And cool dance numbers
And it's really funny to see Troy run out into the golf course and sing for no good reason, but still not get hit by any golf balls.

haha..I haven't seen it, but it sounds entertaining! I dunno, in the whole semi-wanna-be rock scene. Examples: lead singer of Sullivan [Brooks Paschal], Aaron Gillespie [drummer of Underoath, has his own deal The Almost], Shaant Hackyan [can't spell it! Cute Is What We Aim For], Mat Devine [Kill Hannah, I just think he's cute..], I could go on for days...XD

Nice. XD I was actually in the pit [the band] for it, I played guitar...my band teacher dragged me into it. Nobody wanted to do it, so I did...and sat through 7 shows plus 3hr. rehearsals after school.
I'm never doing that again. Especially since I despised it in the first place..

Would someone please explain this whole thing to me? If you like musicals, there are about 25 better musicals out there on DVD alone! Why is everyone freaking out about a Disney channel straight-to-DVD kind of 'movie'?
I LOVE musicals! Why would anyone watch that schlock when you could be watching West Side Story, Singing in the Rain, Chicago, Fame, Chorus Line, Wizard of Oz, Cabaret, A Star is Born.... I could keep going...
Perhaps I am too old to get the whole concept? And I stopped watching disney when they stopped playing their old cartoons and movies...
Someone who loves it, please tell me, why does it stir up such fanaticism? (and spare me the "it just really good", tell me why! I'm really curious.)

I didn't like the first one at all, but I heard the second one was better so when it re-aired on Disney I decided to record it. Sadly, I wounded up being as disappointed with the second installment as I was with the first. The movie was cheesy, predictable, unrealistic and the whole plot was unoriginal(Save by the Bell, anyone?) just like the first one. I'm big fan of musicals and IMO High School Musical is not an example of a good one.

I live in the Orlando-ish area, and my mom works at Disney World. So guess where we go on her days off. Yeah, you guessed it DISNEY WORLD! The absolute happiest place on Earth. I have nothing against Disney World. Truly. I just wish we went there less often. Anyway, at Disney's Hollywood Studios (previously MGM studios) there is a new... thing. I don't know what to call it. It isn't a parade, and it isn't in a theater, but it is called The High School Musical 2 Pep Rally! Every smurfing hour on the smurfing hour, a moving float/theater heads it's way for a half hour of listening to a bunch of people lip-synching. And little girls screaming. I hate it! It needs to go into a theater, and not come out of said theater until little girls stop caring about it. You have to understand, there is no escaping the "music" from the show, except on Rock-N-Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, which is the only ride in the parks except the more intense version of Mission Space, that goes upside down, and they blast Aerosmith at you through speakers in the ride. So no, to answer the question. I don't like HSM.
