I hates the DMV, too. But, then again, I ended up having to take the driving part of the test 5 times because I'm a nincompoop and stress out during test taking.
The whole sign without the words on it thing is STUPID. Grr.

And people wonder why I don't drive.
It is stupid, huh? I mean, the stupid signs always have the words on them in real life, so you'll always see a yield sign with the word "yield" on it, so why do you need to know what it is without the words? A "one way" sign without the words is just an arrow and that doesn't make much sense.

The last time I re-newed my license I did the same thing where I skipped one sign on the test 'cuz I couldn't think of what it meant. So, I told myself I would come back to it when I finished the rest. I finish, stand up to hand it over to the guy behind the counter, remembered that I forgot the sign that I couldn't think of, sat back down to figure it out when the guy says to me, "Ma'am, you can't sit back down. You're done with the test. Bring it here." I couldn't believe it! My butt was three inches off the seat and that meant I couldn't finish the SMURFIN' test completely! Granted I passed and my license was re-newed, but still....THREE INCHES. THREE!
I shake my fist!

what I think it dumb on the tests you need to know the point system.. like how many points do you get if you speed or run a person over or something dumb like that. I had to take the written tests 3 times. But you have to wait 15 days? wtfudge? I like took the test again right after the first time and fail so I came back the very next day.
It's a 15 day wait period here, too. That sucks.

I have to take my permit test today
and i have to do it right before september 6 when i schedued my first driving lesson with my driving school.
I made this appointment 2 months ago and if i miss it
i'll have to wait another 2 months to get another one
so i'm getting a bit stressed
any questions i should look out for?

Study everything in the book!!!! Don't ask someone whos taken it before about what questions they ask you because they change it up. Ususally you just need one good read through the whole thing and you should be good.

even if you do read everything ( like i did)
your still kinda screwed
the sign i missed wasnt even in the book
so your kinda screwed ( not to scare you or anything)
the questions are worded retarded too

Well at least you know it now if it comes back... Up here it's the same sign but never says 'yield' so you have to know it, but it is in the book though. I just passed my license last week after delaying it for 10 years :p So if I've been through it, you can have it next time. Oh, and we have to wait 30 days if we fail :(

Oh, I was unclear! I meant in the book recommended we use over here!!! I believe that if it was in your book, you would have found it and passed your test! ;)
But for the test, must you absolutely go with your mom? Can't she sign some parental authorisation paper or something?

my book has the "yield ahead" sign
but not the yield
it doesn't have a stop sign either
I guess they think it's supposed to be so obvious to us
oh god what else is there

I big thing that i found hard for me is what remembering what each of the colors of signs stand for, mainly the ones that you know you see all about once per state. (damn historical points.)
The thing I found the hardest was remembering how many feet you were supposed do things in - like how many feet you were supposed to signal before a turn, how many feet you were supposed to stop before train tracks, stuff like that. My issue was, I have NO IDEA how to judge what 100 feet is while in a moving car, so who cares if I know the answer?

my mom went with me to the dmv
where they do the testing for your permit
you dont have to drive anywhere
just take the test on a computer
when i take behind the wheel
( driving class)
she wont be with me
But for the test, must you absolutely go with your mom? Can't she sign some parental authorisation paper or something?
My following statement probably wont help at all but I got my permit the first time I took the test in fact...I got the best grade that my school had seen in a while (I only missed one and I had like a 98 or something) and I've had it a little over a week now.
Personally I was going to say you were a little on the dumb side if you didn't know what a Yeild sign was, but then you said it wasn't in the book.
I think you need to take that up with the printing company or something, cuz you really need to know what that sign is. You'll end up seeing a Yeild sign more than a STOP sign probably.
But my suggestion is take Drivers Ed, it cost a little bit and you'll hate it, but it will save you BIG on insurence and it will help you with your driving (1 week in Drivers Ed and I'm already a much better driver than most people I know who've been driving for a while now...)

It was required for me to take at least 30 hours of driver's education
and i have to take another 30 hours of behind the wheel training before i get my liscense
I couldn't take my test because i lost the certificate that says i finished the 30 hours of driver's education
and now i have to go back to the school and get another one for the fee of 5 dollars
and i have to hurry and and get all these things real soon
otherwise i am just out of driving for a few months
bleh!

the test there seem weird. on ours... at least when I got my license it was a double sided paper with 20 questions on each side. one side was rules the other side was signs you were allowed up to 4 wrong each side.
good luck, i'm sure you will get it.
