i have a bunch of cottle caps/corks and i'm not sure what to do with them...
corks (assorted): 13 -one still has that wire metal thingy.. i dunno what they're called:confused:
juice caps (like minute maid ones): 8
beer caps lol: 2
i think i'm gonna make earrings out of the last two, but i'm not sure what to do with the rest... should i wait til i have more of the juice ones and make a belt? what about the corks?
ALSO just an idea i liked and wanted to put out there:
attach old time pieces to your old shoezzz~~~ i think it would look cool. they don't have to be working but i guess if you want to be able to see the time by looking down you can use working ones~~~
ACK LONG POST ehhe sorry:o

You could decorate the juice caps, place a magnet on the back, and make some cool refrigerator art. I know someone who glued a bunch of corks together to create a cube, then sliced it into some flat squares to make a cork board for her wall. You could make coasters, too.

What about flattening the bottle caps out with a hammer and gluing a pin back piece to them to make broaches?
I might just try it myself.
If you end up making a belt out of the bottle caps, please post pictures and tell us how you did it. I'd love to know how. :D

If you got just a plain piece of string you could made a bracelet, necklace or belt by bending/folding the bottle caps over the string and flattening them with a mallet (a metal hammer might scratch the caps but maybe you'd want that?) That way you can still use the bottle caps as beads, but they they'd be half circles and you wouldn't have to pierce or glue them to anything.

yay i made the bottle cap earrings today at my neighbor's house~
we always get together and make jewelry soo... i brought my bottle caps and voila!!
here's some pictures!!
i made the mby cutting a slit in the top of the bottle caps (i used wire cutters because that was the only thing i had on hand ~haha~ btw, i used pliers to bend the two sides a little while i was cutting.. it helps loosen it up i guess~) and separated the two sides (like you would with a jump-ring). then i slid the chain into the slit and closed it back up (again, like a jump-ring)
i attached the chain to the earrings with a crimp/clasp thing and that's it!!
since they're a little off balance due to size you could put those little plastic stoppers on the back of hook earrings, or use studs (if you're paranoid about that kind of thing... i'm not :p) but they seem to be fine, and have passed the head-shake test
have yet to make the belt (if i can ever get enough caps ) and i really like the coaster idea (even tho no one in my family uses coasters... well they'd make a nice gift!!)

yeah i guess no one else wanted to deal with the corks but i was thinking robot cork earings use the corks as the body and add glued push pins for arma and legs and the head i guess those could be cute...hope that helps

i actually really like that idea! i don't wear chunky earrings much so i'd probably end up sticking pins and stuff into the corks instead of attaching things though.
love that idea~ now i need to go borrow more earring hooks from my neighbor (i ran out >___>)

Congrats on the earrings! supercute!
All righty! I can come up with wine cork-y ideas. My bf works as a wine guy, so I wind up learning a lot about wine from him.
The metal thingy is called a "hood." It's to help sparkling wine and champagne from going KABLOOEY! and spraying all over the place. Because of all the bubbles, champagne is under a lot of pressure, kinda like when you shake up a soda. That's also why champagne and sparkling wine bottles are so thick and heavy. So they don't explode. Crazy, hunh.
OK, cork ideas...
Fortunately if you google "wine cork crafts" stuff comes up, because wine lovers tend to not wanna waste the corks. Cork trees are endangered!

It looks like the one project is a cork-board from corks! cool.

The kind of cool thing is now some producers are doing synthetic corks, which helps save cork trees. I'm not sure what's in those corks tho, hmm. There's also screw-caps. I actually like screw-caps.
And, uh, if you're under 21? Don't buy wine for wine corks! :D Or for any other reason. I'm legal, and I don't wanna get my butt in trouble. OK? Crafts good, gettin yr drink on bad! :)

yea all those corks are ones i've collected over the years from my parents and their friends (my brother and i have been collecting forEVER)
thanks for the info, ideas and links~~
yea a few of the corks are synthetic... i'm not sure if they're really helping or not because they seem to be made out of rubber or plastic or something, and that's wasting our precious oil... BUT i don't want to start some major controversy about savign the world because 1.)they get brutal, and 2.)i'll probably lose XD
anyway thanks!!

okeeey imade the cork earrings and i'll post pictures as soon as i get a hold of my mom's camera (mine is hopelessly brokeeeen :()
one of the corks is a synthetic one tho and they're REALLY hard to poke stuff into... once you get it in, it pops out in a few seconds so i'll probably end up gluing;)

BHAHAHAHAAAAAA! Hey, where's the ROTFL emoticon? boo!
Yeah, I'm pretty dubious about the fake corks, too. I mean, I donno WTF they're made of? They kinda scare me.
But, I love screw-caps. They actually keep the wine fresher for longer, and the wine doesn't get corked.
I don't like beer all that much, but that was funny, yo. *snerk* hehehe.
