First project post: Mermaid Leggings + injury.

This is my first project post on here. I've been crafting for quite some time and have been watching Threadbanger for a long time, but I normally post over on craftster.org. So if you see this over there, it will be word-for-word the exact same post. Terribly sorry for the long post; if I were you I'd skip to the pictures.

First, the injury that resulted from my carelessness while making these late at night. Basically during the process of making these a few nights ago I wasn't paying attention and had the needle on my machine go all the way through my finger. Through the nail to the complete other side of my finger. I've been sewing for years and have never been that careless, so needless to say I was a bit shocked. I'm alright, I just have a hole in my fingernail and it hurts pretty badly.

Anyway, I have always wanted these leggings from American Apparel. You know, the sparkly $40-something dollar ones. The ones that most people find tacky but I absolutely adore. Then the other day after I was sitting online wishing how I had some, I decided I could just make some. So I made these out of some green knit dancewear fabric from Joanns that reminds me of the Little Mermaid. It was super easy and I will probably make a whole bunch of leggings.

Bleh, it still has blood on it. And look how bent it is! I was totally going to keep using it after cleaning it off, but no, it had to bend.

Wow, I did the same thing to my finger. Glad to know that others have done it too, lol. The leggings came out very nicely and colour is just gorgeous.

Buuuuuuut... as nobody else has advised it, you should go to a doc. All puncture wounds, no matter how small, need to be checked out.

Haha yes I've gotten tacky a lot. And I'm not sure that I'll go to the doctor, because it's already healed a considerable amount since Wednesday night when it happened, and it's not really bothering me anymore. Just a good story haha.

Haha no it was late at night and I didn't want to wake up my family so I had to restrain myself.

And to the questions about how I made them, it was really super easy. If you've ever made pajama pants, it's pretty much the same thing. I used a pair of skinny jeans I have to trace for each leg to make sure I got the crotch and leg shapes right. Then the waistband was just a strip of fabric I sewed together to make a loop, folded in half (so it's still a loop but now double thickness) and sewed it right sides together on top of the leggings. I plan on making a whole bunch more of shiny, tacky leggings now.

I'm not positive, but I think I found the fabric on the Joanns website. I bought it in the dancewear section. It's $6.99 per yard and is 77% nylon and 23% polyester, but there are lots of different fabrics in that section. I want to make some lamé ones next time.

Ouch! And awesome! I have so much trouble making pants, well I've only really resized big stretchy pants to make leggings. I have such a hard time getting the crotch right, the butt is never big enough so I get crazy plumbers crack!

At least your needle came out hole, mine broke inside my finger, I had to get my dad to take pliers to get it out ouch that hurt, so I feel your pain
