So it gets annoying when you go on a forum for DIY and all people do is spam about their Etsy or Ebay stores, and where you can buy their stuff. So how about instead of polluting the board with stuff like that, we have a thread where you can talk a little bit about your Etsy stores, etc? I don't know if this is against any of the rules or anything, so sorry if it is!

My etsy store is www.madannevain.etsy.com. Most of my stuff is handmade clothing, with a few other odds and ends thrown in. My prices are super cheap too, and all items can be shipped for the price of one.

Hmmm...I don't know what the rules are, either? I figure since it's independent sellers, and they're all links in 1 location, it appears to be fine.

Just like anything else - depends on how much work you put into it- advertising locally, online & anywhere you can. I've also heard that many successful etsy sellers have other avenues where they sell their items - not solely etsy.

I think the only reason people like them on an actual person is so the can see how they fit on a person. So if you can put it on your dress form, I think it can suffice.

I'm so excited to see what you put up there, Goofi! It's going to be awesome, I'm sure.

For my photos (which, admittedly, are not top notch but they get the job done), I just set up a tripod in my room, and model my own things in front of my blank green wall. If you have a plain, bright wall somewhere in your house, and a camera that has one of those 10 sec. timers, you don't even need a tripod necessarily, just a tall, level surface to set it on. Or somebody to take the pictures for you. :)

But that's me, and so far I've made most of my clothing in a size range that would fit me okay. I think clothing always looks better on people than on dressforms, and my favorite pictures of clothing are taken in interesting places--outside, or in an unfurnished, old fashioned room. (I have a couple really nice outside photos, thanks to my dad and his really niiiice camera, but it's freezing here in MN and I don't plan to have an outside photoshoot for at least two months.)

Thing is, you want your clothing to look the best if possibly can. If you don't want to model, you can grab a friend who will do it for ya. But it's all the customer is going to see, and you'll want it to look fantastic, of course.

I'm not an expert but here some things that might help one and all...
- Check out the promo forum on Etsy. I know it's scary but it will get you noticed and sometimes there are good threads that you'll miss if your not looking. Things move fast in there so be prepared.
- One thing that the promo section can help with is getting hearts. A lot of people disregard those funny little things but they are an indicator that your getting noticed as well as increasing your chances of getting in a treasury.
- Treasuries. These are good to make but better to be in. My suggestions would be to add more tags. I noticed that both of you don't have very many tags, and just by looking I at least thought of 4 extras for both items I looked at. You want to at least add color tags. When people are making treasuries a lot of times they make sure the colors match because it's more likely they will get chosen for the front page.

You both have small things that would sell a lot easier than a large, high priced piece of art. I've learned a lot in the last few months (it why I haven't been on here a lot) and I know that all of you can make it.

Out of all those things I would definately fix your tags.

After getting my computer back up an running I have decided to offer my banner making service to everybody. My fee is small, and if you don't have the money, I also accept trade for my service. I will soon be listing this service on etsy but for a higher price. The price listed below is for threadheads only.

How does it work?.
Simple, if you have an etsy store, or are starting one, but don't have the software to make a banner yourself, you PM me and let me know what you would like on your banner, what your store is called, and how you will be paying (paypal or trade).

No idea what you want on your banner?
That's cool, just let me know what kind of feel you want your banner to have (dark and gothic, cool and chick, girly, or whatever, I can do it!)

What is the cost of all this?
Banners cost $9. If you want a matching avatar for your etsy, it's an extra 50 cents, for a grand total of $9.50... this is a cheap and comparable price to banners offered on Etsy.com. If you don't have the money, but would still like a banner, offer me a trade. I accept most handmade items, or even supplies like sculpey clay or fabric. Then you just have to pay postage.

So what happens after I place my order?
After you get your order to me and I accept the trade terms or the money has been placed in the paypal account, then I work on your order until you are satisfied with it. This means I make the banner and send you a copy, and if you don't like it or need it tweaked, I'll tweak it or redo it until you are satisfied.

The first 3 orders I fill will come with a free matching avatar to go on your Etsy account.

PPS.
Whether or not I accept your order depends on how many orders I am currently working to fill. It generally takes me one day to make a banner and avatar and get it back to you after the money has been deposited into my PayPal account. If you wish to place an order but I already have way too many to fill, then I will let you know how much of a wait there will be for your banner, and if you still wish to place the order then I will get it to you as soon as I can finish the others up, as it is a first come first serve basis.

NOTE: I also make other web images, so if you need some kind of other image made, let me know, and we can work out a price.

I like the one where the words are on the right better because the yellow circle in the middle draws attention to the left already. The words in the center and on the left make the banner too busy.
