Since being inspired by MamaSass, I do agree that there should be some kind of craft book review. Many of the current books and patterns in the market SUCK ROYALLY, but even I found one after five years that I had to have.

The most classic must have off all craft books is the Complete Guide To Needlework, originally published in the 60's by Readers Digest. I accidentally found this for $4 at a second hand store when I was 11, now it's like $30 brand new but it has EVERYTHING.

My more recent find is The Big Ass Book Of Crafts by Mark Montano. He does a lot of consulting for the DIY channel and recycles a lot. I like this book mostly because it is strong in all the craft areas that I am weak in, then takes it to the next level. He keeps it simple stupid yet makes everything look great in the process.

That's a great idea, I'll have to point JSedai to this thread. She's gathered quite a few great books over the years we've been together. Mostly recipe books and novels, but she's got several craft books as well.

I am a book fiend...

Craft books I like include:
Sew What Skirts: I have always been a pattern person and this book has shown me how easy skirt patterns are. Since I am over 35 and somewhat overweight, I refuse to wear shorts in public so I love skirts in the summertime.
Kid's Knitting: I have recently pick up knitting again I learned at age 8 but never went anywhere with it. This book has the clearest instructions of any knitting book that I have looked at since it is written for a 8-10 year old to teach themselves to knit.
Stitch 'n Bitch: Mostly for the snarky way it is written but it has some fun patterns in it as well. The instructional info picks up with a few techniques my kiddie book left off.

I don't own many craft books, I own mostly novels and a truck load of cookbooks.

Isn't that the book about patchwork, embroidery (like 12 types), quilts, handsewing, machine sewing, the tailor technique, etc?

I have the 1976 translation : my mom had it since I was a baby, and she gave it to me. That one and the one about knitting and crochet!!!

I love them!
