My science teacher assigned us a project to do on Protein Synthesis
We need to be able to show that we know about protein synthesis.
To get a 100, we need to be creative!
We get 5 extra points if we win (MOST creative!)
Models of DNA won't do; it's not creative..
and I was wondering, my fellow threadheads, if YOU had any interesting DIY ideas :D

I do not really understand what you should do. As I looked this up (I'm not a biologist or doctor :D) it is a quite complex process so how deep you should know about it and describe?
I think that you could maybe focus on the message translation part. It could be a telegram of instructions, and then if the message is garbled, the wrong "part" is made. There are many parts to protein synthesis...this is a tall order! Maybe you could do a little puppet show (easy to make different finger puppets with different shaped hats/colors for the different players). Well, that's about as creative as I can get this early in the morning. Good luck!

teachers love participation so maybe you could sorta act it out with class mates. call up volunteers and have them hold cards and explain the process as if it was happening. kinda like a play. You would get full points for sure.

I think you should do a song and dance routine about it. You can write lyrics to a tune everyone knows (Like "Old MacDonald Had a Farm"), so everyone can sing it. The person who rhymes the best can write the song lyrics.

You should re-write a better song, though.
Like Toucha-Toucha-Toucha-Touch Me.

Haha
Too bad singing has been done =[
I was thinking something sorta DIY-like
She just said it had to be obvious that we knew the MAIN parts
with the DNA and the mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA

I know someone on the forums made a tee shirt and sewed on in a funky way the stuff to the front. Like instead of painting each color would be a different fabric and buttons could represent stuff. Or you could make on giant DNA costume!!!! :D

do you know what it was called?

hmm i don't know but that would be really cool... you could always use three. two around the crossing one.
Sorry i cant find it but i remember it was white, red short sleeves (baseball style) little membrane inside it yellow things representing stuff. button represented things. it was cool

I think I'll make a vest..
for this specific class!
cause people have em nowadays...and if I make one specifically for the project, they'll believe me when I say I made it!
(most people don't believe me =[)

Cool idea. Yeah I hate when people don't believe you but you're just like "YEAH!" Although it sounds like they think you're not talented, I take it as it looks professional. =P

Use jacket zippers as the DNA strands. show how they unzip replicate and rezip. Use 2 different colored zippers to represent the DNA strands. That is all I have for now. Sorry it couldn't be more. I just took a test on that very subject earlier today.

One issue!
Since I wanna make it striped...(to represent the nitrogen bases)
how could I get ONE fabric and cut it to be:
green - purple
blue - orange
blue - orange
purple - green
orange - blue
etc.... so it's all different instead of alternating
kinda like DNA is..?
should I color it?
buy a fabric, cut, sew, cut, sew
or...?
