It's 9:30 at night. I'm on the computer, gazing longingly at Japanese loose socks on eBay. Except- I'm not allowed to buy anything off eBay. And they're $20 a pair. SO I decide to use the DIY spirit- and make my own!

Sorry if it's hard to understand, but I kinda made it up as I went >.>

Here's the picture: http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fulltutorialls3.jpg

and now, the instructions. Oh, and sorry about the purple fabric, its the only kind I had. When I really make these, I'll use white.

1.) Trace your foot on a piece of paper, leaving 1 inch on all sides for seam allowance. I used my left foot, so I marked it left.

2.) Measure from the back of your ankle to the front and mark that on your foot sharp, drawing an arch to connect the points. Trace onto another piece of paper and cut them out.

3.)Trace them wrong side up onto the fabric. And here's where I messed up- write an L for left on the foot shape, but the toewill be your right, so mark it R.

4.) Cut them out and flip them over to create the pieces. Mark this new foot piece R and the toe L.

5.) Now you have all your feet pieces!

6.) With right sides of the same feet together, sew around the edge of the toe. Repeat with other foot.

7.) Now measure the area where you want the top of the sock to be, and measure, adding an inch or less for seam allowance. (You want it to be kinda tight)

8.) Now, using your measuring tape, measure the circumference of the ankle hole on one of your feet pieces and add another inch or so for seam allowance.

9.) Cut out two rectangles with one side as your calf measurement and one as your ankle hole.

I left a picture out here- fold your rectangle in half, right sides together, and sew it into a tube. Repeat with other leg.

10.) With all pieces still inside out, take your leg piece and pin it to the foot with the seam in the back of the ankle.

11.) Sew the leg to the foot, then repeat steps 10 and 11 with the other side.

12.) Still inside out, fold the edge over and sew it down, just to make it purdier.

Flip 'em right side out, and enjoy!

That really is more of a leg warmer.

All the loose socks I've seen have been knit.

I'd be worried about your feet, depending on what fabric you use.

Yeah, loose socks are knit, my boyfriend bought me a pair while he was in Japan. Those seem more cosplay friendly, then everyday, they look nice though, and i love yoru shoes. Good job on the Tutorial as well.

I think to properly enjoy the garment you must create and utilize two. Unless your body is unique, in which case I apologize for this remark.

Good point,
but I think you added a little bit too much 'snarky' to your breakfast this morning.

isn't the fabric a knit? a fine knit... like a tshirt with metalic finish, but still a knit? i thought...???

It is a knit, but not the kind I'll use for the final. As I said (I think), that's not the fabric I would use, I'm going to use a white eyelit-knit type thingy. (Very intelligent wording, I know)

I meant knit, not constructed of a knit fabric.
