I hate eBay today. eBallsy is more like it.

A couple years back, eBay hiked its seller and store-owner fees by a few cents per sale. It may not seem like a lot, but if you're paying about $1.50 to sell something that's only worth a dollar, and then eBay also takes a percentage of the final sale... it's not worth it at all. And to top it off, Paypal (owned by eBay) also takes a percentage of your money IN ADDITION to what eBay takes.

People obviously rioted. It's an annoyance to me, as a seller, but it's just downright cruel to people who use eBay as their primary source of income. A lot of people make their living off of their sales and even file their taxes on it.

So eBay tried to "fix" their problem. They lowered all of their fees by 10-20 cents or so, depending. Why are people angry? Because they RAISED their percentage fees... DRASTICALLY, so much so that the price reductions will still leave most sellers paying more. It's stupid. eBay is stupid. I encourage all users to use Amazon, Google, Half, and Etsy--if they're selling handmade things. Or better yet, start your own website. Hell, I'll buy from you. I'm the type of person who will pay more to a small business that doesn't outsource, and I'd support anyone who sold from a less communistic eBomb. Those Jerks.

Updated info: eBay is making some very drastic changes. In addition to the final value fee percentage increase, eBay is taking away all seller protection. They will be holding Paypal funds for 21 days before allowing the seller to access it. Also, they will be taking away a seller's right to leave negative/neutral feedback for buyers, although buyers will still have the right to leave negative/neutral for the seller. This is all grazed over in their announcement, which promises "lower gallery auction fees" and the line. In protest, several thousand sellers will be boycotting eBay from feb. 18th-25, and permanently if this does nothing. I encourage you to google "ebay boycott" and "ebay strike" to find more information on it.

well i can see where your coming from, but i paid 1.30 to sell a lightsaber for 67 bucks.. with a crack in it that i only paid $10 brand new for. those are the things that make me happy about eBay, but sometimes its just a ripoff

Yeah, occasionally I luck out like that too, with something I sell for more than I paid for it. But a lot of people literally make their living off of eBay, and we, as sellers, are doing the work FOR eBay. They should be good to us.

Like when people make a $57 profit on a damaged item?

I like eBay sometimes. But then, I don't sell, so I can't really talk.

I do resale on ebay, and it works out great for me...

I just start out with a bid that will make me money, or just rely on flat shipping rate to bring me profit...

But i agree, these new percentage fees are crap. I'd rather just pay the listing fee up front rather than try to figure in percentages into my budget figures...

Even if you are lucky enough to make a $57 dollar profit on a used item, the deal won't be very sweet for you after the 18th. eBay is making some very drastic changes. I sell on ebay at times to,

my current rant about it is:

Im buying 3 items from a seller, who said it needs to be paid within 3 days (or else they give you negative feedback and relist the items) but they wont answer my messages, and ive been asking them to send me the invoice (with combined shipping) but no word back in 3 days :(

also on a random note, are sellers still able to give buyers feedback? cause i thought that was stopped but i got a feedback from a seller just a few days ago.

not when people sell a necklace and charm for 30 bucks when the og price was 130. and the item would have gone for close to 100 anyways had it been damaged or not. it was one of the high quality ones. not the cheapo walmart brands, i happened to pick it up for 10 bucks cuz the stores computer was messed up that day so it was simply by luck. and i didn't break it either so that can't entirely be blamed on me

my dad actually bought a pool table from his boss for $400 and sold it on ebay for $1236 and ebay took about 30 of it. But the cool thing was the guy decided to come and pick it up so we didnt have to ship it but other than that , ebay kinda sux if ur a seller. They recommend you put ur starting price at $0.99 but then if someone bids on something for that they expec u to sell it for that and when u paid $15 for something your not gonna sell it for $1 and have to pay shipping and fess and wut not.

I prefer not to use ebay too often if I can help it. I think it sucks what they're doing to sellers though. Not having the right to leave negative feedback to a buyer is dumb. I know all kinds of people who sell things from ebay and end up getting a buyer who is just plain rude to them. Or end up not sending them any payment at all.
I was thinking of selling a couple of things on ebay recently but now I think I'll just stick to the idea of going onto the forums that I'm known on and letting people know I have whatever item. A lot of forums have a marketplace area.

No seller protection?? You can't access your paypal funds for three weeks?? Why on earth would you sell through eBay then? That seems ridiculous. I've only bought a few things on eBay - I don't like it. I bought a used car part for a friend that couldn't easily be found anywhere else and I bought a huge pile of double-pointed knitting needles for almost nothing, so that was nice. But for handmade stuff I stick to buying on Etsy - and I sell on Etsy and love both the buying and selling on Etsy.

Wow, that eBay stuff sucks.

I would use etsy but i dont have a credit card, you dont need one to sell on ebay you just need a permier paypal account. But i do adore etsy, ive made a few purchases on it.
