ok so i babysit for this little girl who is turning 5 later this month and ever since she was born i have made her a birthday present. ive made her a blanket, a bib, a pillow, and a poncho. she really likes princesses and ballerinas. i was wondering if anyone had any quick and easy ideas on what i could make her. :)

yeah, i made my niece a tu-tu for her birthday (she turned 4). :) its nice if the little girl has a little brother, because that way...if she doesn't like it, you can always put it on the little boy, have him run around the house & take a bunch of fun pictures. :D

I've always made little girls "dolly bags"
start with a rectangle that is 6 inches taller than a regular sized baby doll by the width of the doll x2 plus 8 inches
make a pocket on one side (to put the doll in with her head still out of it...I make this look like a blanket...so the doll is "in bed")
then on the other side put in anywhere from 2-4 pockets to hold clothes/bottles stuff
add some wide ribbon handles
it should look like a tote bag with an open top and open sides...and the doll lays sideways when carried
I usually use two layers of fabric with batting inbetween to give it some heft/sturdiness
and you could get a dollie to put in it if you wanted!!
well hope that helped
also super hero capes with the kids initial on the back is good (for girls too)

Love the Tutu idea and the super hero cape. I made a small brown cloak with a hood and both of my girls and my neighbor's son have had fun with it. They have played hobbits, super heros, dragonslayers, and who knows what else.
I never got around to it but I always wanted to make a trunk of dress up clothes. I keep all of my kids costumes that I have made and they sometimes drag them out to play with.

Costume trunk! Costume trunk costume trunk costume trunk!
My mom did this for me - she just put "wood" contact paper on a cardboard box, and then put "travel stickers" in orange contact paper, and just wrote names on 'em with a sharpie - London, Hollywood, and so on. Because I wanted to be an actress.
Junk jewelry, old slips, beach wraps, etc. You can go more deluxe with it if you want, but to me a costume trunk = love.
Stupid kids thought it was dumb, but that's b/c the average kid didn't have that much imagination..."It's just a box!!!" Grrr. Stooopid kids.

thank you all for your fabulous ideas! i love the fairy princess tutu idea. i also love the costume trunk idea. i also think kids need to use their imagination more. it'll help them later in life with problem solving.
