Too bad they don't have any guy tuts. yet.

Actually - at least 2 tutes are guy-able. She gives instructions on an easy way and a harder way to put new sleeves on a t-shirt! :)

So, if you ever want to switch out the sleeves on a tee, her tutorials look really clear.

***Edit:

Oh, good, I found how to link it:

Yeah, that's uh...

A direct link to the tute site would have been better.

Other than that... Well, uh...

Who runs WhatTheCraft.com?
That's me! My name is Alexis, and if you're into the "diy" fashion scene (http://www.whatthecraft.com/dirbuysell.html), you might know me as SmarmyClothes (http://www.smarmyclothes.com/). I'm a self-taught seamstress and crafter... pretty much everything I learned was by reading tutorials and how-tos, or good, old fashioned trial-and-error. I'm just a passionate craftperson passing on my knowledge.
Currently, WhatTheCraft.com is a one-person endeavor, which is why I'm kinda slow at answering emails, activating forum accounts, and updating with new tutorials. :) So I apologize for constantly keeping all of you waiting.
I do want to thank all the people that help keep WhatTheCraft.com afloat, both money-wise (all of you that have bought advertising slots (http://www.whatthecraft.com/advert.htm) or donated (http://www.whatthecraft.com/donate.html)!)and content-wise (the awesome forum (http://www.whatthecraft.com/forum) members, people that submit links for the directory (http://www.whatthecraft.com/directory.html), or request tutorials, or ask for clarification). I'm constantly trying to improve and add content, so all of your questions and support help me do so!!

I like her stuff but I dont wear dresses much.

I think I'm in love with " http://www.derangeddesigns.com/"'s (http://www.derangeddesigns.com/"'s) leopard jeans. I need!
Some of those Ebay DIYers have established names for themselves (like swarmy) and I think that's the reason they charge so much. It's a brand--you're paying a lot for a brand, basically.

Hello, everyone!
I appreciate all of the nice things said about both of my websites, but I also wanted to address the "expensive" issue.

I think I'm in love with " http://www.derangeddesigns.com/"'s (http://www.derangeddesigns.com/"%27s) leopard jeans. I need!
Some of those Ebay DIYers have established names for themselves (like swarmy) and I think that's the reason they charge so much. It's a brand--you're paying a lot for a brand, basically.

I agree with this somewhat, but my prices more reflect the work and time that go into the clothing. I'm not saying that having an established name doesn't help getting people to pay my prices, but it's not what I consider when I'm pricing my stuff.

Using myself as an example: I spend at least 2-4 hours on the average piece, (sometimes more than 5). Now, remember that this is my full-time job, so paying myself a fair wage is important. If we take what I think the average time spent on one piece, which is 3 hours, and I "paid" myself $10 an hour (which to be quite honest is the absolute minimum I think anyone should pay themselves), that's $30.
Add on expenses for materials- $10 per t-shirt for a reconstructed item, plus the extra fabrics, trims, etc, and it could be anywhere from $15 to $20 on average.
So now we're up to $45 a piece. If I were to double that like many retailers, that'd be $90, and most of my stuff is not that expensive. I didn't even count the time I spend ordering materials, dealing with customers via email, programming and designing my website, photographing/modeling (ugh), etc.

I hope I don't sound defensive, because I do understand that for a lot of people (myself included), my stuff is expensive. But the prices really do reflect the quality of the craftsmanship for my stuff, and I think probably for many of the other DiY sellers.

I can tell you that I wouldn't be able afford most of my own stuff, but ask around and you'll find that this is often the case with people that make a living selling their crafts. Crafty people are generally a thrifty lot. And all too often, people that try to sell their handmade crafts get trapped in the "I wouldn't be able to pay this much" mentality, and they never wind up breaking even.

I know a lot of you that sew can probably make stuff similar to mine, and so you won't buy my stuff. That's okay, I'm the same way. I'm going to try to make it before I shell out a bunch of cash, if I can. For that reason, crafty people aren't my target audience. That's why I made WhatTheCraft, even though most people said I was crazy to be "sharing my secrets" and that it would kill my business. You guys aren't the ones buying my stuff in the first place. :)
