I finally thought of a neat diy gift for my older sister, I already have something store-bought (bleh) but I have been wracking my brains for something interesting!

I had bought a red shirt to do something with and I saw the Sweeney Todd eppie yesterday so I thought, "DUH! She has been obsessing over Sweeney Todd for the past two weeks! Where has my brain been?!" So I printed out a pic of Sweeney Todd's face (Johnny Depp) with the title of the movie below it.

I am working on making the screenprint base for it but I have a few questions!

1. Should I put "Sweeney Todd" under it? or just leave the picture?

2. I wanted to embellish the shirt a bit with some black fabric, I don't have any lace (my first choice) but I found some black mesh material, some shiny black material, and some matte black material. Which of these would be good, what should I do with them? I wanted to try the scrunched up thingy Rob did in the epp but I'm not sure... Any other ideas to spice up the shirt a bit?

3. ANY other ideas, greatly appreciated!

Thanks for any responses!

Maybe do a border on the bottom, neck, and sleeves in black?

you could bunch up the sleeves and sew them a bit, like corinne did in the pirate costume episode.

you might also want to cut the shirt diagonally at the bottom, then hem it.

the name "sweeny todd" could go in the back, and the print of him in the front. or the other way around.

oooh you could cut down the neck a bit, then hem each side, make some little button holes or something then string is up kinda like a corset. except only at the top.

sounds awesome. i hope to see pics of it!

It doesn't matter if you put his name or not. If you put his name under it, it will be more work. You could sew on different sleeves with the material. You could sew on a trim at the bottom. You could sew on a collar. There is lots of stuff you can do with the extra material.

Here are the things I made! I didn't see some of these posts until after I had finished but I just wanted to say thanks for all the awesome ideas ( I will try to use them in some other projects.

Here is my sister's shirt:

I also made her a hat to match with the black silky fabric on the shirt:

And here is the shirt I made for my brother (the stencil was supposed to be a Schrute buck from The Office but it didn't turn out quite right, I still like how it looks and so does my bro, and that's what matters!):
