Here are a few suggestions for winter DIY projects.

Reversible Double Layer Fleece Mittens
Scarf with built in hood
Jeans lined with flannel PJ bottoms

DIY Gift Suggestion:
Cloth bag for storing plastic grocery bags (tube shaped bag with elastic opening at each end -I even saw one recently with stenciled/painted butterflies on it)

Okay...nobody's added to this thread. Did I post it in the right spot?

I posted these ideas in response to Vanessa's request in Newsletter #27 for "winter wear and crafts" for the new weekly show.

I'm gonna do some shameless self promotion and suggest the cropped winter jacket I made from a longer winter coat. I sent a WMV file of my tutorial.

Even if my tutorial sucks (which, I think it does, the production values aren't that great!), please feel free to use the idea. I think it turned out kinda cool.

I wouldn't normally toot my own horn like this, but I think it turned out so well! And I made a lot less mistakes than usual, so I didn't have to "back-track" and figure out what I did wrong (for once!).

well the last link is pretty similar, all you would have to do is sew a strap to the bottom of it.

I agree about mittens with a "flip-top":)! I think that they should find a way to take old mittens and refashion them that way. I would like to see them make some kind of face mask type thing that would cover all of your face except your eyes. Possibly connected to a scarf and/or a hat.

What do you mean by 'toboggan'??? As far as I know, a toboggan is a kind of sleigh...

Ever heard of the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race? www.gnctr.info (http://www.gnctr.info) or look on youtube for vids (ok, I'm out of subject, but I'm involved in this year's race plannification ;))

Don't forget to look for the vids, we ingineering students are mad... But I don't have the links over here:mad:...

[quote=Miss_Gagarin;37523]What do you mean by 'toboggan'??? As far as I know, a toboggan is a kind of sleigh... quote]

I've always known a toboggan to be a sled as well, so I looked it up on Wikipedia and found that although toboggan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobogganing) usually means sled it also has some other meanings:

"In Southern American English, toboggan can also refer to the type of hat known elsewhere as a tuque, a ski hat, or a beanie. Sometimes this is shortened to boggan or lengthened to boggan cap. Other Southern people claim that a toboggan is a hat instead of a sled.

Toboggan also is the name for a BMX trick where the bars are turned 90 degrees, held with one hand. The other hand grabs the front of the seat, while your legs push back so you are extended over the back of the bike, with the nose pointing down."

So there we go. Learn something new every day. :)
