So there alreay has been a bunch of topics on dying with coffee/tea etc and bleaching jeans but do you guys have any tips when it comes to dying a pair of light blue jeans with good old fashion rit? I just received three pairs from dad (two polo brand and one calvin klein from 19??) I'm using black cuz I need black jeans...my favorite ones ripped at the crotch and I don't feel like being called the amazing Crotchman the rest of my natural existence :P
much appreciated :D

I wouldnt use Rit as it tends to bleed a lot.
I would suggest Dharma dyes. Good luck!

Yeah. Rit brand dyes are the ones you see at the supermarket in the laundry aisle. The ones in the box bleed like crazy, but I hear the ones in the bottle are slightly better.
It might be worth going to the art supplies store and getting better dye, though, Pinoyblaze. It's not as cheap, but it's more color-fast and won't fade as quickly

I heard washing your brand new jeans/freshly dyed clothing in a mixture of vinegar will seal the colours in.
Anyone know any truth behind this urban legend?

I heard that too a few years ago, and ask my chemistry teacher. She said yes, and so would adding salt to your rinsing water. And also, make sure the water you use to dye and to rinse is very hot, for it 'cooks' the dye into de fiber. When I dye something, I actually put it in an inox pot on the stove and let it simmer. Then I wash the item alone for 2-3 washes and after that no problem. Of course the color fades over time, but that is not unusual even in manufactured clothes (remember Bart Simpson's red hat anyone?)

I think if you use (i just checked actually) a very dark yellow/brown dye, you can make it brownish, but I can be certain. (I used illustrator to check this, I'm not sure if it applies to clothing)

thanks for the tips guys, I'll try boiling my jeans with strained coffee ground water. Maybe it'll get it darker that way :P
