View Full Version : My Totally Dope Calendar/Wallet

I've been looking at those day planner things that also hold wallet stuff at various stores and they're too expensive and never look the way I want them to - so I made my own! I'm really happy with it and it came out so well.

I embroidered my name on the cover and it velcros closed. On the left hand side it holds a ton of cards and has a zippered change pouch, in the middle is a pen holder and on the right is a sleeve for the calendar to slip into. I also made a cover for the calendar itself and put on it slots to hold cash and my checkbook. Oh, and it has a bookmark to keep my place in the calendar.

The outer cover is made of really stiff interfacing that everything is sewn to and then a layer of soft batting outside of that so it's nice and padded.

Dopalicious!

There were a lot of little pieces to sew... :)

Thanks, I basically had a vision and just sewed it all until it met that vision. The hardest part was figuring out the card holder thing.

I always wanted those but you're right - they're always too expensive and not so awesome looking. Much unlike yours!

That is truly adorable. You should definitely make a tut!

You could/should also definitely offer these in your etsy shop! I really love the pink swirly goodness.

I don't think I'd like the calendar and my credit cards in the same spot, but I'd love to figure out how to DIY my own wallet! I'm really hating the wallets that're out there. They never seem to have the change purse/credit card holder format I require without being like $40+. Er, no.

I also LOVE the decorative stitching on the spine.

I need to learn more about different interfacings - I keep winding up looking at patterns that need collar interfacings.

miss kate!! your wallet is soo cool. and it has a calendar. clever. you know it's funny, i was just browsing some wallets and i was like..uhh i don't like them...but i don't know if could figure out a wallet thing. maybe sometime in the future when i can actually sit down and get through a project.

i love how your name is embroidered on it. it's cute.

Thanks. :)

Yeah, I didn't used to carry around a calendar either, but now with the schedules of myself, my husband and my two boys to keep straight it's just a given if I don't have my calendar on me that I'm going to miss a doctor's appointment or a playdate or whatever else. So I really needed something that held my calendar as well as my wallet stuff.

That being said, I'm also going to make a flat insert thing that I can put just my ID, credit card and some cash in, in case I need to have a little thing that fits in a pocket if I go on a walk or out on the town or something. I'll post a pic once I make it. :)

The funny thing is, you can look at this project two ways:

1) YAY! I have everything in one place, so I can find it! :)

2) YAY! I have everything in one place, so I can...uh, lose my crap all at once?!?!? :D ;)

Thanks guys! :)

Lindsay - yes it's a satin stitch around the edges. Two layers just to make everything nice.

LadyJane - I don't lose things and I've never lost my wallet before, so I'm not concerned I'm going to lose my wallet while it's attached to my calendar. For my Mommy lifestyle I have going on it's just the right size for me and all my organizational needs. :)

edit:
wanna see my sad excuse of a wallet?
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9181/dsc02006vp4.jpg
the line was where it was supposed to fold.
It was so much better as a paper project than a real wallet.
but at least now I can use it for note cards for my research paper

Thanks everyone. :) :) :) :)

I'm not sure I could pull together a tutorial, it took me a good couple of days of measuring and figuring and cutting and sewing, but maybe if I make another one (I AM thinking of selling them on my Etsy site) I'll take pictures along the way so you can see how the construction goes.

I really appreciate all your nice comments, sometimes projects are one way in your head and then just come out totally different, so I was so pleased when this came out just as delicious and fun as I was hoping. :)

That's so pretty! I want one. xD
I'm forever losing things in my bag, so I think it'd be handy to have them all closer together. Of course, only I would be able to find stuff if I arranged it.
Love it! :D

That is sooo awsome
I am to the point where I want to make my own too.
I agree the ones I've seen I don't like but the ones I do aren't all that
functional.

Thanks Climberslacker. :) Jeido - I love having everything all together!

So, I've been using this wallet for just about a week now and I love it! I get comments on it nearly every time I bring it out to pay for something and I love how it feels and everything stays snug in there but the cards are easy to get out and I love having such a wide change purse - it actually makes it possible to find change in there!

Anyway, just thought I'd give an update. And the next time I make one I'll post pictures of the process.
