This show has done wonders by not only giving us DIY shows, but also bringing together DIY'ers so we can share amongst ourselves. I was inspired by foundmyfrisbee's awesooooooooooome t's. I am in no way better or close to his awesome. . .ness. . .but here is my first project:

I love it when cute animals turn bad ass with just one piercing.

In other words, I dig it. Big time.

Yes. The earring was thrown in last. I had too. I mean. Come on. . . it was a must. It took me like, 45min to an hour. Because I would stop and start. I am not the kind of person who sits and plans out anything. I just like to sit down and draw what comes to me. If it looks good, then great. If not, then hey, I got it out of my system. This one turned out nice. I am going to do another today. Thanks for all the nice comments!

This is cute as hell, I might make one for my wife.

How well does Sharpie hold up to washing?

wolfgirl
07-31-2007, 09:00 PM
hmmm. Good question. I have not washed it yet because I am adding some hearts on the back. But if you go to foundmyfrisbee's thread under suggestions he talks about that. He says after you iron it, it will hold up very well to washing. But he says on the first wash, to wash it inside out on gentle mode to be sure. : ) I am sure your wife would luv one! Especially if you made it for her.

looks sweet

does that bleed or disappear in the wash?

edit: i just saw the post above me

it's probably just a test and trial thing.. but how did you accomplish the different strokes and shades using the single black sharpie?

i'd hate to mess up.. and knowing me, i would.

I have to say I love the earring too.

I did mess up, on the eye. I started ut without knowing how to finish it and now it is big. But it is fine.

I lightly sketched first. Then outlined darker. To shade, I would crosshatch (you know, making lines in different angles, building up layers) and hold down the sharpie for darker lines, and gently brush for lighter effects. Hope that helps some. I just make my mistakes part of the piece. Work around it.

My gosh that's cute!!! Awesome job drawing it...the earring puts it over the top!

My sister collects giraffe...items. We all started it when she was born, sticking giraffey stuff in her room...my mom got her this poster in France, it's an ad for some French company that makes caramels, and this little kid is at the circus and the giraffe is looking at the caramel bag in the kid's hand and licking his chops...now I really want to go try and somehow turn that into a shirt.

Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments! I am glad you got a good idea for your sister. I work at a zoo so I see them all the time. They are gorgeous creatures. I get a lot of ideas from there. I am finishing a macaw one now.

08-02-2007, 01:36 AM
lol. And thanks again. I just loved his thread. A few days after reading it I totally went out and bought some markers. And yes, it might make me a little sad XD But happy that you liked it so much you would steal it!

++And just so, I wanted everyone to know I am not trying to outdo him or anything, I think his art is sooooooo original and amazing. I just wanted to post my own project that I learned from his thread. So, people, it is easy and fun to do. I wanna see others try also!++

I am finishing an otter one as we speak. I want to post it in this thread when I get my camera working. *crosses fingers*.

Like I said in my first post, I think this site is great not only for the shows, but bringing people together to learn new things from each other.

Oh...my gosh...if you can do an otter half as cute as you did the giraffe...I would then pretty much NEED to steal it from you.

Mmhmm, yeah.

wolfgirl
08-02-2007, 03:48 AM
I finished it! The otters are done. I will get the pic up tomorrow when I can find batteries for my camera. 0_o

btw, you mentioned how you "messed up" with the eye and that's why it's larger... i think it's better that way. good mistake.

I wonder if the design was originally inspired by a certain musical lycanthrope that happens to enjoy giraffes and drew one similar to it a few years ago with the hearts and x's and all...

This one really is great though, I really really like it :)

That is so cute!
Thinking about making that but with a different picture.

The only thing I am afraid of is... its gonna wash out easier?

So I am thinking, draw it on a piece of paper, scan it, then just attach it with a piece of that scanner sticky paper.
