if you want punk, how about making plaid patches on your pants (even if they're school uniform) and add some chains...my friend has a plaid belt which looks cool cause he isn't even punk lol
add a union jack but depends if you're ...wahts the word.....where you're really proud of your country and don't wanna have anything else....dunno lol
well what fashion or design aspect of punk do you like?

ah cool, well could get soem jeans and like sew some strips or patches of plaid, say like the pockets, back pokets, stripes down the side of the leg, around the bum, plaid belt. Patches usually look better on bags or jackets (leather but doesn't have to, have own style)
someone made a punkish tee on the projects, could follow that idea but don't forget to make it holley and have some safety pins dotted about!

Our school got uniforms after I graduated, I noticed that every girl expressed themselves via purses. You know. . .Girly Gucchi and stuff. BUT punk girls got creative. Girls can make purses and put patches on the to go with their uniforms.

Technically this might be my first but only because I have to get things squared away with my last school before I can get financial aid for this school.
And related to the thread topic: I think kate's train backpack would make a great back to school project.

I know this year I'm going to have lots of fun with a tote bag I'm gonna make. Last year I decorated a messenger bag... I have friends who make them out of colored duct tape.
You could also decorate pencils, make your own folders, etc.
Plaid things with raw edges (threads sticking out all over the place, etc.) and rough stencils are extremely punk.

Actually if I've got time I might be able to whip a pattern for a simple lunch bag design. When do the main shows air? I haven't kept track.

That is definitely a plus. And really, I had such bad senioritis (completely burned myself out by mid-junior year) that I barely was in class anyway.
It's just interesting how the internet so effectively eliminates age prejudice that when find out the people who you're talking to are as young as 2/3 your age (or perhaps much much older), it's rather jarring. But in a good way, of course :D

The way to go with duct tape is just to make big, flat sheets of duct tape "fabric" and then cut and tape from there... for pockets, just tape a smaller square of the "fabric" to the main bit. Duct tape sticks to itself pretty well, so no worries there. And it's really easy to mend, haha.
I made this messenger bag a few years ago and LOVE it. It's so soft and comfortable to wear. I made up the pattern, but it was basically just putting a flap on a regular bag shape. There's a zipper pocket in the flap and a zipper pocket inside and many open pockets inside. It's great when I want lug around a binder or something, although being 27 years old it's been a few years since I have been to school...
I'll be making more backpacks pretty soon here, so I'll put up a tutorial on that since there seems to be interest, and I'll be making another messenger bag this month and can put up some pictures of that too, if you guys want. It's pretty easy and looks awesome. If you made one out of school uniform material that would look sweet.

Any ideas on spicing up old messenger bags?
I have an olive messenger bag I use for school, and I'm having problems altering it because I've used it for a few years and now I'm into brighter colours. I have no clue what to do, the sky's the limit here.

so, I took 2 regular book bags and made my friend a messenger bag out of them.

In the first pic, it shows the front flap which i made from the front of one bag and sewed the shoulder straps to it to make it cover the second bag. The second pic is the flap open with the other book bag. I sewed the zipper part and cut open the side and sewed the zipper i took out to the side. The shoulder strap is one of the left over straps. ^.^ i think it came out pretty cool.

you could cover the bag with colorful fabric, and if it has holes and is breaking down, you can cover them with colorful patches fo fabric. =D to sara-ish.

Y'know, I have a very heavy leather backpack with stretched-out straps. It's hella heavy, and I got it for free at a Naked Lady Party years back.
I should really take the boxcutter to it, and see if I can re-con it. Because it's just really too heavy to take my shoes to tap class in, and the straps got all stretched out. And, other than the straps, it's in beautiful condition. I have the heavy-duty needles, I have buttonhole thread, that part should be OK. I may need to buy an awl...naah, I have nails. No prob. Just thinkin out loud.

I made a lunch bag in gr. 7 home-ec (my class was the last to go through the home-ec class) and I still use it! I'm starting university in the fall.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how I made it and I'm afraid to find out because that usually involves taking it apart and stuff... and

Eh.. I have to wear uniforms.
I like to tear them up a little with sandpaper.
Anyone got any tips on spicing up a polo?
