i finally finished my duct tape body form. i am so proud of .... i just realized "it" needs a name... hmmmmm. this is going to take some thought. i'll let you know what i decide on...anyhoo, so i stuffed "it" with all the old craft scraps that i have no use for but cannot bare to throw away. its pretty heavy so it stays stable on top of the table (hehe rhyme:)). i love it.

i made mine too.. only its my hand lol, it was hard to do by myself, I kept getting scared I was going to cut my circulation.
how i made mine was that i used a rubber gloves.. you know the ones your doctor uses and when i finished my whole hand i stuffed it with bounty or paper towels...
I was thinking of using it for putting my rings on it but the fingers and hand itself ended up bigger than mine and none of my rings fit on it )= ill find some other use for it.. urs loooks great! good jub! I'm going to make mine with my friend when i get the chance..

that is so awesome! I love the fact that you went w/ black instead of silver! I need to make myself one (badly) but I worry that when I do I'll have nowhere to put it anyway, since my room is really just part of the living room that's been sectioned off, and my craft area is actually a kitchen table that is in between my "room" and the common area... so whatever I make, it has to look presentable to outsiders, so they won't hold my roomie to blame!
Anyone got ideas on maybe covering it w/ fabric or some such nonsense? I hear that the tape starts to curl up and get gummy after a while, leaving stickiness on your clothing.... any way this could be prevented, and ALSO make it look awesome so that it will not scare away non-diy friends?

Couldn't you just cut out the fabric to match the body and then either hand stitch or velcro it on? That's probably what I would do.

how do you get it to stand on it own?? I stuffed mine with old clothes and grocery bags and I still cannot get it to stand with out propping it up against something! and is electrical tape better than the duct tape...i used the silver duct tape? but i think that is electrical being used in the pic...hmmm!!
please advise!!

question about the body forms. i did one and stuffed it with newspaper and put a coat hanger in the top. and when i've been using it, i've just been hanging it from things, but it's kind of causing it to become a little deformed. any better ideas of how to work with it?

w00t, representing homemade body forms. I made one immediately after I watched the episode titled "Size Matters." Here's mine:

By the way, it never held up on it's own so I had my dad make the stand :D.

I want to make a duct tape body for m now.
:(
But I fear that I would need about 200 rolls of tape.
Can I just add:
"Boo for the G4 shirt@! They ruined the wonderfullness of TechTV and made Martin Sargent have to podcast his funny..."
The bodyform looks great through.

I've been toying with the idea of making a dress form, but I don't have anyone to help me. I know my mom has an actual one made out of foamy stuff, but it doesn't have a stand. hmm maybe I should dig it out of hiding and fixer up abit.

Nah, just get the biggest one at Home Depot. I have a 180 ft one waiting for the semester to end to make my own body form. And I'm gonna fill it with expanding foam sealant. Pics will be available when I'm done!

This might be a stupid question, but how, exactly, do you make a bodyform?

I think that Cordelia is the way to go. Or maybe Gwendolyn, or Enid.
My dress form's name is Etta.
Anyway, nice job!

If I can draft a helper/victim this weekend I'm making mine. I am so tired of putting of projects because it is next to impossible to drape on yourself. Guess I gotta make a trip to Lowe's cuz I wanna use expanding foam.
Great job. Wish mine was gonna be that small.

Here's how I did mine alone. I used a full length mirror and wound up cutting pieces that I could hold with both hands and pull taught around my back. And I also just passed the roll around and around and around.
I found I couldn't really do the section between my shoulder blades and the top of my shoulder. So I did a couple of criss crosses from under my shoulder blade and up over the opposite shoulder, and tried to put as many vertical strips as I could to stabilize. I did one arm and then gave up.
Then cut my self out right up the front, and out the unfinished arm. Make sure your scissors are sharp! I didn't use safety scissors, but the ends were a little blunt. The safety scissors just weren't sharp enough to cut myself out. But don't ruin your fabric shears cutting duct tape. Because I didn't go up my neck with the tape, I was able to attack from both the top and bottom to get myself out.
Then I taped up the cut, and approximated the other shoulder and the neck. I taped up all the areas I missed because I couldn't reach. Then I stuffed mine with an old comforter I haven't used in several years, and plastic bags. Made it nice and stiff and taped up all the holes including the bottom. I used a little under three of the small coloured duck tapes, and it is solid! It probably weighs 10-20 lbs, and is a bit smaller than I really am.
So if you are going to do this on your own, really try to make sure that you aren't pulling too tight, especially when you are winding the tape around your body. And please take your time! It's better to suffer inside the tape a little longer then to cut yourself, no matter how badly you want out.

Yeah...its not the first time I've done something like it, so I decided to tackle it by myself. Not to mention, I don't have anyone to help me. I just moved and don't know anybody yet. Last time I did something like this I used saran wrap and plastic bags to wrap and clear packing tape to bind. It was a full body casting (done in pieces) for an art class.
If you've never done something like this before, I recommend either having someone help you, or at least someone there incase you freak and can't get out. It can be....distressing.....Last time I needed to have my male roommate cut me out of a piece that went from my left shoulder all the way across and down my right arm....we weren't dating...it was awkward.... But it is doable. It's just time consuming and can be a little uncomfortable.....
