The TRUTH? I don't know how to use a sewing machine. My "area" is jewelry making and any sewing was by hand. (Simplicity is Bliss) I bought my very first.. ALL-fMY... sewing machine and I somehow "pathetically" thought I would remember the basics from 7th grade.. I was wrong and I have NO CLUE how to use it...
So.. if you guys know any videos etc that I could use.. THANK YOU!

If you search on YouTube for "sewing machine," some short how-tos come up. Such as how to use the bobbin, how to thread your machine, etc. There's not as many tutes as there are for knit/crochet, but it's a really good start.
Do you know anyone who can sew who can teach you?
And, I keep screwing up the bobbin/tension thing. You're not alone. :o
We totally need a support group! "Hi, my name is ladyjanewriter, and my sewing machine hates me!" (Hi, ladyjanewriter!)
Don't feel alone, I am in the same boat. Luckily for me, my father is a seamster (is that the masculine of seamstress? )
I know places like Ben Franklin and Michaels usually have sewing classes, or if there is mom&pop sewing machine store near you, they may be able to give you some hands-on training.

I think if you have the time for the classes it's totally worth it. I've been thinking about taking one just for fun. (Yeah, I'm a loser).
However, my sewing machine came with a VHS instructional tape. It's straight out of the 80s with this little crafty woman walking you through how to use the reverse button and all dressed in a bulky cardigan. It's gold. Pure gold I tells ya. Her voice is just so soothing....
