This is a project I had been meaning to do for a while.

WAS: A men's XL dress shirt with large breast pockets.

IS NOW: A woman's size small, button up, empire waist halter top with small hip pockets.

It's not perfect, definitely some things I would do differently next time around. Surprisingly, it slides over my head & shoulders a lot easier than it does on my dress form.

I had to sew the empire waist closed at the buttons because the elastic caused the top to pucker between the buttons. I could not sew close enough to the buttons....ugh it was a headache. I would love some tips on how to get around that.

All suggestions/ input is welcome! Thanks!

I've been wanting to try making something like this. Its looks really cute! You think patterns like that would look okay on a "heavier" girl? I'm like a size 14-16 and was told to never wear plaid because of it (yeah my parents and siblings were pretty mean hehe). But you think I could pull of a cute top like that?

LufBecky- I think you should wear what ever makes you feel good, regardless of what others say. I am planning on making one for my sister for Christmas, and she has requested straps. That got me to thinking that straps would be a really good addition to the design and some funky button attachments would be even sweeter! I think if you wanted to steer away from plaid, you could get a bright, flat colored shirt and spruce it up with some contrasting buttons. One piece of advice that I do have is to line the inside....I guess there`s a reason geezers wear undershirts under their dress shirts :) Bottom line is, I think a top like this would look lovely on you :)
