Yes... I've just hated pools for the longest time, i can't have the water in my eyes, i'm pasty as heck, and if my hair gets wet i look like a flat chested lady 0.o

5 Steps to a Better Design Brief

If you look around you I’m sure you can find plenty of great advice on how to write a good design brief. Therefore I will assume that most of you would know what they are and how to do so. However I have found that such advice are often “cookie cutter” at best, and may not necessary help you get your design job done right. However if you want a better and tighter brief, these 5 steps might just help you turn your design into a great one!

1) Create an “elevator pitch”
Top on the list of things to have is an “elevator pitch” in your design brief. Essentially it is a short blurb that describes what your brief or design effort is all about. Adapted from my experiences with entrepreneurs, I found that entrepreneurs often use an “elevator pitch” to communicate or sell their business idea to someone else in a quick and concise way. Therefore, I see a lot of value for design managers to use an “elevator pitch” as a means to communicate the essence or gist of the brief to everyone, including members of the design team or even back to the client.

2) Build a hierarchy of needs
The next thing to do after diligently taking down all your business partner’s requirements is to prioritized them within a “hierarchy of needs”. A good design is one that fulfills the requirements of a brief, however it is impossible for a design to fulfill all the requirements of the brief equally. Thus a hierarchy of needs is important to ensure you will create a design that has focus.

It might sound like compromise, but it is not. It is about laying out the facts and managing expectations, so that your client is fully aware what he/she will be getting at the end of the day. For example, if cost pressures are a factor, you should not be creating a design with expensive materials, or embossing on letterheads.

3) Key benefits to be communicated in the design
These days, designs should not only be about making an object look good but also part of a meaningful brand language or a holistic business strategy. Therefore Designs have to communicate its intent, its benefits, and also resonate with the consumer. Lots to do! Therefore you should identify, with your colleague, client or business partner, the key benefits that need to be communicated in a design so that it can be a success in a competitive marketplace. Try to minimize the number of benefits as much as possible. Even better, keep it to just the most important benefit.

4) What is the big picture and how is the design part of it?
Any Design (product, graphic, interaction etc.) will be always part of a bigger story. It could be part of a family of products, or a range of similar products differentiated by specifications, or even just a simple accessory. At the end of the day, a successful product solution has to not only beat the competition but also play well with its friends. Therefore it is always a good idea to not create designs that will cannibalize the sales of existing products


5) How are you going to make this thing?
Most of us designers, in any discipline, usually know how to get things made. It’s part of our training. However, the choice of our manufacturing or creation process often comes after we decide what we want the product to be. While this is great for genre breaking design work, the people who pay the bills may not be similarly inclined. So it is good to find out upfront what sort of manufacturing constraints, product part cost targets, or manufacturing strategies that should be considered during the design process. Once you identify the constraints, you should do what any decent designer would, ignore it! But seriously, it is good to bring realism into the discussion early in the game.

so i was thinking a lot about some of my old toys yesterday

one of those being my huge i mean HUGE collection of polly pockets from 1989 - 1995 i think is the latest one i have being the mermaid book

so i went online to see if there were any collecters site


and hahaha

i found jsut about every single one i have minus a couple but they have it i just have a different color that they don't have recorded

only bummer is they don't have prices and the few that do are only like 14 bucks not that i would ever sell my polly pockets beenie babies yes (except the few amazing loved ones) but NEVER my polly pockets

when i was little my dad and i would go to our favorite thrift store in san francisco that was down in the mission seriously best thrift store ever i was spoiled by it

and i would always find polly pockets
and i actually got a few brand new ones for birthdays and things but just about all over them except for probably 4-5 are used ^_^

so happy now i just have to dig them out of storage and play with them again

My aunt, uncle, and their 5 kids stay in our house for a month every summer (they don't live in America, so this is their vacation). They eat all our food, but don't clean up after themselves, they hog the TV and computers (I'm so grateful I have a laptop, I just lock myself in my room), and the oldest kid is 13 and they're all really wild and loud so my house sounds like a zoo. Worst of all, my sister and I always end up having to watch the kids because my aunt is always shopping and my uncle is always napping or on a business trip. As we speak I hear the two oldest beating each other up, and the youngest one crying and looking for her mom.

A plant isn't gauranteed to have one of each kind though. You can have a plant of all boys or all girls. I thought my plant was all boys untill a few days ago I found my first girl flower. I was so excited! I was gonna have a pumpkin!
My friend who has a big pumpkin patch with her family explained pumpkin sex to me. Basically you rip out the boys staymin and rub it around inside the girls pollups. Then 9 months later you have a pumpkin.
lol ok no, you let it grow however long you want for whatever size you want lol.
But I kinda poked at it a couple days ago to see if it was ready to open, but it wasn't, so I decided to wait. Well I guess me poking at it disturbed it because it looked like it was wilting today.
All flowers just wilt and fall off the plant if they aren't pollinated.
Well I though, ok, I'll just open it now and pollinate it. So I grabbed the nearest boy and tried to knock up my little girl flower.
I guess I waited to long:( Just as I finished it fell off the vine. So that means it was getting ready to fall anyways.
There are still quite a few flowers that havn't grow big enough to see if they are boys or girls. So hopefully I get another girl. If not, at least I know what I'm doing for next year.

WV State Fair is happening right now. I try my hardest to avoid the place but since my eldest daughter is in the high school marching band, we have to work there parking cars. It is a great fund raiser but I don't enjoy it.

So while I was loading my DA page today a thing popped up
"warning your computer has a virus we will immediately scan your computer and get rid of any infections"
I thankfully had just been informed by my friend that her mother had this virus on her pc known as "personal anti-virus". It's a trojan that does a fair amount of dammage and since it disguises itself as an anti-virus program your virus program will not recognize it. Thankfully, I exited internet explorer as fast as possible before the darn thing could download. Apparently it blocks any sites that allow you to download malware removers. It will also show up as a program on your computer and will not allow you to remove it as far as I know. So my pc is safe for now.

On another note, i'll be getting a new laptop in 10 days! I'm excited. Going to have sooo much room to download things. My current laptop has a 512 mb RAM and only 2 GB of space left on the hard drive out of a grand total of 40GB -.- . The chord is also gone to the dogs since I can't move it without the power being disconnected from my laptop. And wow... This has been a long random thought... I only just now feel like i'm writing a friggin journal. Well it was good to get all of that off my chest anyways :D
