Aww...more people need to be on Threadbanger...not people just JOIN, but be on the forums. -.-; There's not a lot of action around here...but I guess most people are sleeping. I probably should be.

I watched "The Princess Bride" tonight with my buddy and the Polish exchange student who's staying with her. I didn't have to bike there after all...I very much don't want school to start. I don't want to do the busy work. It's so pointless. [Not school in general...that's an okay idea..XD]

My mom dragged me shopping today. It was painful seeing all those clones.

My favorite cousin interned at Fueled By Ramen and is a Fall Out Boy fan. I don't have the heart to tell her that her bands suck. Paramore sounds OK, but still kind of derivative.

I feel SO BAD for her. Her mommy got Led Zep, and Roxy Music, and The Ramones, and The Clash...she gets Fall Out Boy. Oy.

Also - The lead singer guy of Fall Out Boy? You CANNOT tell me the man is not balding. I never see him without his stupid hat, and he's got the long hair in the back. BALDING. He's either prematurely balding, or he's older and lying about his age. I don't care about the balding part, but don't front and lie about your age.

I think in Pennsylvania, you used to be able to get a license for a moped before getting a car license. They may have changed that? Oh, wait. 16 in PA.

I think it used to be 14 when I was a kid. But there were a LOT of crazy stupid guys on mopeds when I was younger. Maybe they drove illegally.

Er, I'm gonna say this as a person and a poster, not a mod.

I'm not too enthused with the anti-immigrant jokes with the "Dora The Explorer" part of the thread. I'm not saying you have to change your minds, and I don't know what the official policy is.

I'm just personally not too thrilled with those kinds of jokes myself. I'm not quite sure what I feel about illegal immigrants in the USA. There's a lot of them in Chicago who really wanna stay here and work and make a decent living and stuff. I guess I wouldn't feel quite the same way, if I didn't know some of these people personally? (Mostly restaurant workers.) Sorry, my conscience just kicked in, and I hadda say something.

Sorry if this was too soap-box-y!

i personally do not like illegal immigrants ever since
march 30

two of my friends were killed in a car crash
they were sitting at a red light
and a drunk driver ( illegal immigrant)
came up behind them and rammed then doing 80
the two girls were killed instantly ) ( they were wearing seatbelts)
and the drunk driver ( illegeal immigrant) lived.
since he was an illegal immigrant
he hasnt been punished since
and i dont think he will be

which doesnt make sense to me!!!
if anyone can explain this to me please do

Well, let me put it this way...

If you take out the part about an (illegal) immigrant being involved, does it make it any less tragic?

Immigrants are people, too. And you can't dismiss and dislike not just a fact of life, but an entire fundamental cultural concept, because of one albeit tragic accident.

And if immigration was more open; if we weren't strung up on the idea of immigration caps, and asylum seekers, and illegal immigration, etc. then maybe he would have been an American Drunk Driver.

As for the drinking and driving thing... A few years ago, a woman was killed downtown Ottawa by a drunk driver. The thing is the driver was a Russian diplomat. Therefore, there was nothing the canadian justice could do besides kicking him out back to Russia. Where he had a symbolic sentence.

I think it's worst than illegal immigrants.

Coff, I've ALWAYS wondered how to pronounce Gretsch.

Can you help me out? I've always called em G-Streches >~<

I've always pronounced it with a silent "t" and "c"

So, like... Gresh.

Rhymes with Fresh.

Or alternatively, with a silent "s"

like Gretch.

As in Wayne Gretchsky.

ladyjanewriter
09-06-2007, 06:45 PM
"sch" always has a specific sound to me...uh....shoot.

See, I grew up with so many German place-names that the "sch" sound is normal to me.

It's almost pronounced like "tsch?" Like your mouth is trying to make a "ch" sound, but you wind up making a "sh" sound through your teeth.

I just looked it up on YouTube and all I'm hearing is "Gretch"

So, I'm guessing thats it. But knowing me I'll keep calling it a G-Strech...

Because I like giving guitars stupid names...

Like Ibanezs to me are iBeans (like Apple has their own line of beans haha)
Deans are Donalds (don't ask me about that one I don't even know)
And millions of others for other guitars.

Coffee

Still, a Rick is way out of my personal budget.

Hell, it's about 5 or 6 times more than I'd pay for a lot of guitars!

This is my project as it stands now:

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/Caffeinatedguy/DSC00630.jpg

The electronics still need a little work, then it's just troubleshooting.

Cost me £25. Altogether, it's cost me maybe £100.

I just can't imagine paying a huge amount for a guitar itself!

Around where I live theres not to many good drummers.

And all the good drummers normally want to either goof off or just don't want to do anything at all.

Do you know how hard it is to start a metal band in a small Christan town?

Also theres like no basses...except for like one...

When I don't have people to play with, I write a simple/silly rhythm section with MIDI and just play with that (it helps if you know some keyboard). It's not so bad if you've got a good software synth (like Propellerhead Reason), though the contrast between an acoustic overdriven guitar and the Windows "General MIDI synthesizer" can be quite humorous. In some ways MIDI is perfect because you can add in any sort of weird instruments that no one you know can play. You can also loop forms like the 12-bar blues, which is great for practice.

Of course, nothing comes close to a real (good) drummer :(

A bass guitar is nice, but you can live without it if need be, à la the White Stripes. Just get an octaver. :D

Jelfish

Oh! I just had a really cool idea!

We should start a music collaborative!! For example, someone could come up with a drum beat and upload it. Some other people could add in a rhythm section. And then more people could add in solo instruments or vocals!

Ha! I always thought "The Threadbangers" would make a good band name.

It's unlikely that your computer doesn't have a mic-in jack. It's usually a pink or red 1/8" jack that's next to your audio-out jack for your speakers. Radioshack almost certainly has them. Mics for those jacks are ubiquitous now a days, so you'll find them anywhere.

My main instrument is piano, and since I have a MIDI controller, I have access to whatever my Reason synth has to offer, plus my keyboard's excellent piano samples. Also, I've got my Ibanez with a Big Muff Pi pedal (early Smashing Pumpkins sound). I also own a really crappy snare drum and have access to a violin that I don't know how to play.

Plus I love the guitar and make metal songs like no one can imagen. I'm working on my finger taping and sweep picking and I can make my guitar cry like a baby.

We can always use a synth or an octave effect to bring down your guitar for a bass sound. Considering that it'll be a layering of sounds with relatively crappy mics, sound quality isn't going to be absolutely crucial. At least for now. ;)

Yeah, but if this is going to be a collaborative project, not everyone will have a good mic. Anyway, there's absolutely no need to limit ourselves with "traditional instruments," so whatever makes a bass-ranged sound would work.

I disagree. A guitar can easily play chords, which have a natural bass note that goes with them (chord voicing). A bass guitar, while it can go much lower, cannot as easily play chords and must rely on arpeggiation. A bass is more effective when it has the freedom to walk with an established chord from a chordal instrument, like a guitar or piano. Therefore, between the two, a guitar is more useful. This is particularly true if you're playing very thick and intricately voiced jazz music. Of course, there are always exceptions and it depends on the type of music you play.

Anyway, just because a lot of people play guitar doesn't make it unnecessary in a band. Don't you have a better reason?

I wonder if it makes sense to start a Collaborative Band Discussion thread separate from the Random one?

It's just fine to talk here, but I realized that this part of the convo isn't random, really, and morphed into something interesting I'd hate to see get lost in the shuffle?

Not thinking of this as a bossy mod, but a mod thinking, "Gee, this idea is interesting and maybe all of the ideas on this should be in it's own thread..."

***Edit:

I don't read music well, but can sing and harmonize well. (Alto/2nd Soprano) My lower register's better than my higher voice. I'm like 85% sure my voice would blend with Plasma's very well. Who, BTW, has VERY GOOD vocal technique.

This is kinda true. But one problem that can occur here is that the drummer will overload on basedrum (which happens a lot) which will really kill the base guitar, so a lead guitar can help even it out. or you can just cut off your drummers foot.

Can't I just stay at home??? I'll do the laundry and dishes and junk. And do collages and sew. And ignore people.

I hate people in upper management, they're unbelievably stupid sometimes.

I'm tired of the clowns running the circus.

I am really twitchy and anxious b/c I think upper management is lying to me and my co-worker in our workgroup about how secure our jobs are. I'm really scared that they're lying to us, or worse, totally incompetent and just making crap up as they go along!!!

Nothing's gonna change for another 6 months, but I'm really scared that I'll have to do job interviews again.

I just wanna stay home and sew. But we have to get out of our crappy apartment. I want to run away to the suburbs.

I get wat u mean. my Supervisor is one of the most incompetent intellectuals I've ever met. I already know he doesn't even wanna be here any more, more likely he'll leave around october or november.

I also think they are trying to get rid of me because I'm so inexperienaced. FINE get rid of me fools. Try reaching the youth population without me. A 30+ year old brown man talking about SEX with a 15 year old isn't ideal... rawr!!! Just a little bit creepy.

I felt exactly like you do. I hated having a boss - most of them were so dumb. I hated having set work hours and not being able to have a flexible schedule when I felt like doing something else. I feel SO FORTUNATE that I'm able to stay at home with the kids and do my own thing. Being able to sew for money is awesome. I hope I can make this into a big enough money maker so that I never have to go back to work again. That would rock.

I was surprisingly calm today...usually I'm pretty hyper for at least a piece of the day, but that hasn't happened yet. XD weird.
Thinking of joining the youth group choir...my laptop is warm..and so is my blanket...banana chocolate chip muffins=yummy...
We went outside for biology today. Got to wander around, go down the hill and explore. The only bad part was that me and my friend were already late getting back and we were on the opposite end of the path and we had to climb up a super steep slope to get back up...but our teacher gave everyone candy [?] so it was okay...RUN-ON SENTENCE! My english teacher would kill me if she ever read that. XD

All of your fave bands were my aunt's fave bands during her Punk era. (Yes, the same lady who was the hippie earlier). So, I can follow along pretty well.

On purpose! They were originally called "Sundays" because you couldn't sell the soda part of ice-cream sodas on Sunday. Back in the 1800s or something. So, it's basically an ice cream soda without the soda.

Baby birds are so hard to care for. Next time, definitely consider finding a local rehabber - they have a better idea of what to do, what to feed 'em, etc. I think they require a lot of eyedropper feedings and stuff.

I know I missed my payment in July, but I KNOW I sent the check in August.

The check from August is gone now. POOF! Lost in the land of forgotten mail somewhere. Guess I'll be making a trip to the bank today to stop payment on it.
