Well, there wasn't an off-topic board, but I think this is still on-topic. :)

Well, I don't have a scar or - oh, wait, I do have a pin scratch on my left hand, heh. Nothing major.
But my current "OW" is my achy shoulder. I've been hand-stitching a skirt and I think I'll be done next week. And OW my shoulder is killing me. I donno if it was the small repetitive movements or if I was sitting funny or sewed for too long one day? But seriously, OW.
How in the hell did people do this before the sewing machine? I bet tailors had hunchbacks. I can't see doing this by candlelight after a hard days' work of cooking, milking the cows, tending the garden.
So, I'll take a couple day's break, and work on it again. Rome wasn't built in a day (and, uh, neither was this skirt).
I'm beginning to see why women's fancy ballgowns had removeable cuffs and collars to change-up the look. Because, damn!
OK, you?

Well, I've poked, cut, burned, sliced, plus a bevy of other things to myself.
Last night, however, while trying to make a wallet, I didn't hurt myself, but I melted some of the carpet in my living room while ironing the wallet fabric. Smooth move, right? (Pun totally intended.)

i've played stringed instruments for many years so i've got mega calluses on my fingers.. one day i was making a costume for a play coming up and had to remove some stitches that were too snug..so i picked up a circular razor and used it, only the material was extremely hard to work with... long story short.. i was cutting up my fingertips the whole time and didn't notice until i went to play my instrument the next day and was in severe pain.. =]

Opression of women >.> That's how. Stay at home and sew. Poorer women and their families had lesser quality clothes because they did have to do that after working their arses off all day, and richer women had fine needlepoint because they had nothing else TO do. Girls used to give samplers to boys to show off their sewing skills. I read that in American Girl long time ago :d

When you are fitting jeans, how in the heck do you manage to shimmy out of the pins? I've pricked myself with a pin before, but NOT to that amount.

one time i left something i was handstitching on the floor and forgot about it
a few hours later i walked over it and had the needle stuck straight through my big toe
thankfully it was the fleshy part to the side but it hurt like hell.
I just told people i unsuccessfully pierced my toe

RAKATA! SHOOWOOSH! the fire almost blows up into face, thank god for my cat like reflexes (; !! and i panicked and my brother had to put it out and everything was black!! my stove had wax allover, the microwave was blackened and thickened with wax.. wat a mess!

Not technically my story, butafriend was sewing and notpayingattention. The sewing neddle impaled his finger. The worst part wasn't just that he fractured his finger, but the needle shattered when it hit the bone so they had to get all the little shards out. Ouch.

I was busy modding my mouse (at my school you have to bring your own so its important to make it look different) and I wanted to get this gel like sticker off the top of it (with the logitech logo in it)
I decided to do it with a hobby knife, long story short I slipped and with all of my force stabbed the knife into my left hand, I had to get it stitched back up at the hospital...
I still don't have feeling back in a small part of my thumb...
The mouse turned out pretty awesome though :D

When I was smaller one of my best friends lived near me. I had bought new pair of pants and I wanted to go to her house to show them to her but they were too long for me (yep.. I always have that problem :( ) so I asked my auncle (one adult there) to try to fix the pants so they would fit me... I still don't know why but the took one of those kinda knives (I don't know how are they called... the ones you can break the little end when the cutting part is damaged) and well... all the other stuff to make my pants shorter
.... so I took it (I don't know what for) and I don't know what I did but when I looked at my thumb it was all bleeding!! The funny part is... here (my country) people think that putting coffee on an injury makes it 'heal' (making a scar) faster haha so yes... my auncle put coffee in my thumb and it was all sticky XD
by the end I had a coffee finger and my pants were still too long =( (still have the scar in the middle of my thumb =( )

I've stabbed myself many a time with a needle, but I think my worst crafty injury was when I attempted to do woodworking with an X-acto knife... I was using it to shave off pieces of the wood I was working on, and the wood chipped off and the knife went into my index finger. It took 4 pieces of paper towel soaked through to get it to stop bleeding. I've still got the scar :-p

I'm afraid my shining career in DIY injuries is much too long to document...but here's a few of the most exciting episodes:
1. Sticking myself with sewing pins and needles happens all the time...but once I actually jammed a pin under my nail and up into my nail bed...we're talking MAJOR HURT here.
2. Once I left something to bleach in the tub next to my washing machine and went off to wait. Of course I found something interesting to do in the meantime..and forgot about it. When I remembered, I ran to get that thing out of the bleach bath...and about ten yards from the laundry room, I slammed the very edge of my foot straight into the doorjamb at a dead run. Full speed. My little toe turned black and the nail fell off about a week later.
Then two weeks after that I did it again. Same foot.
I think the doorjamb was evil and had it in for me.
3. Last but not least, right around Christmas last I was attempting to pry some faux diamonds off a bracelet I had. (Furthermore, I was doing this with a 99-cent hunting knife from Wal-Mart, not even a proper x-acto or anything.) Wouldn't you know, Murphy's Law kicked in and the knife slipped and I drove it straight into the toughest part of my thumb. Blood instantly started gushing and running down my arm...and the wound crippled me from any further DIY-ing that holiday season. (It just would be my right hand...)

my diy injuries? the ever-so-common hot glue gun burn happens just about every time i use the little devil.
my latest experience was that me and my friend needed to make a model of some horse drawn wheat cutter or something (forget what it's called) using tooth picks, popsicle sticks, and a my little pony. some pieces of wood needed to be held together while the glue cooled, so, as you can imagine, we recieved many painful burns.

an update in my diy injuries
I was ironing a new project and was trying to slip a bag part onto the edge of the ironing board. I pulled it hard to make it fit and i lost grip of it and my arm flew straight onto the hot iron
the burn actually looks a little neat
oh the fun painful moments we have

I was boiling some dye, in like a huge pasta pot i think it was like 10 gallons, (i think we've used it to deep fry a turkey too) So i picked it up and was carrying it over to the side of the hill to dump it since i was done for the day (hush, its not pollution its watering the hill even if it is boiling) and well boiling water down the legs (I was 'cooking' in my underwear, or shorts i forget) but say hello to the hospital and burn creams!!! wooot! alright now that most of you are scared Ill be back in a week :P

oh gross...Nothing more then a few pricks with the needle. except the one time i left my pin cushion in the floor & stepped on it an hour later. i had like 5 needles in my foot but luckily i just reached down & pulled them out except one that stayed in there until my mom was talking to me & yanked it out when i least expected it. hah moms rock.. but does any one remember then guy Jay from the first season of project runway when he ran the needle THROUGH is finger?? omg i wanted to hurl when he did that.

So, it's no new thing for me to hurt myself while sewing... My favorite is when I was still in the dorms (ie. sewing on the floor) and I went to sit down indian style w/ the seam ripper still in my hands... long story short, when to use that hand to stabilize myself, and stabbed myself in the foot...
But what happened just now bugs me! It's not the first but the SECOND time my sewing machine has bit me on the left index finger... the part you loop the thread into before you thread the needle... whatever it's called, it's got it out for me...
I'm constantly getting my finger in the way of it and ending up w/ a chipped and bleeding nail...
and of course, no bandaids... so what's a crafty girl to do? snip of a bit of the scrap material and tie on a cotton ball, that's what!

ahhh! that reminds me of seventh grade home ec.
this girl was trying to tech this kid to sew. so while she was teaching him to thread and work it he was messing around and he pushed the pedal down and it sewed over her hand.

I'm sure it's been said once or twice, but I've had many a pin and needle go through my fingers (horizontal, not vertical). When I was a little kid, I'd randomly look at my finger and see one just sticking through...then bawl my eyes out. I messed around with my mother's supplies too much -_- '
And not too long ago, I stuck one through my nail and into the nail bed. Yeah...ouch! I don't even remember how it happened. But, after all these years, I'm lucky enough to not have any scars. I do have a white dot on the nail that had the needle go through though :D

Oh, I've got better... I've shoved my seam ripper into the top of my foot before!

My grandmother is hunchbacked... she's amazing at quilting, and has spent quite literally over ten-thousand hours hunched over a quilting loom that was built by my grandfather. You should see some of these amazing quilts she has created over the years!

I got a fresh one today. Three weeks ago, I got second degree burns on my hand, and there's a large stripe down my thumb of red flesh because there's not enough skin to cover the blood vessels yet. I just jabbed a needle straight down that spot while sewing. Ouch!

Ow! Oh, gawd *shudders* that last one made me feel a bit queasy.
Why am I not surprised this thread's so popular?
OK, I have an odd one. I'm machine-sewing more often, and the muscles around my knee hurt. I wonder if I'm stepping too hard on the presser foot again? I switch off from my right foot to my left to make sure my right calf doesn't get stronger than my left for tap class - when your left leg is weaker than your right, you can really hear it.

That's weird. It shouldn't require any more force than a car accelerator. Then again, I don't know if you drive.
I jabbed my thumb with my seam ripper (the one without a ball :( I still haven't gotten a new one).
Anyway, I'm posting to all the threads you just posted on LJ because those are the only ones that show up when I clickity click the "New Posts" link. I'm also a bit "happy" right now ;)

Hee!
Yeah, I drive! And I actually have really good foot control with the tap dancing. I think it's just holding my foot at the same angle for awhile - my ankle gets crampy. I think I'm just using oddball muscles I haven't used in awhile, and need to take breaks and rotate my ankle and stuff.
Also, when I was finishing off the lettuce edging, I was "flooring it" because I wanted it DONE already! :D I'm so impatient.
And... willya buy a new seam ripper already? Seriously, check out the drugstore next time you need cold medicine or band-aids or a candy bar. Walgreens' around me carry some really nice Singer brand hand-sewing items. Near the auto supplies, shoelaces and shoe polish, phone cords, etc. Stop the madness of jabbing yourself! :)
Jelfish
10-06-2007, 03:59 PM
I'd probably still jab myself with a balled ripper too, but with 1 less puncture wound per jab. uhg.. anyway I have been looking around for seam rippers and it seems that every store has the exact same brand of seam ripper. I assume it's fine, but I'd like a little competition! Mine came with my sewing machine.
When I first started using the sewing machine, I experimented with how I'd put my foot on the pedal for the best control as my machine is pretty sensitive to the pedal position. I've found the best position for me is having the ball of my feet near the top of the pedal and just the edge of my heel on the bottom. This way, instead of controlling how hard I push down, I only have to control the angle of my foot, since no part of my foot is really planted on the ground.

^^^ Yup, that's what I do. I'm a Leadfoot! :o
For people who are stepping on pins...do you have a magnet anywhere near the sewing machine, and where you're pinning stuff together? It's majorly essential. My gramma even had a broken yardstick she attached a magnet to, she just waved it arround like a magic wand at the ground. It just picks the pins right up! (Unless they're stuck in the carpet)
And - OMG. I just remembered how I heard about how that yardstick broke in the first place! I think Gramma broke it across my uncle H's backside when he was a kid!:eek::eek: Oh, man. And mom used to threaten me with the yardstick when I was reeaaaaally being bad and never follow up on it. OK, this'll be fun to discuss in Therapy...No wonder I have fear of getting a yardstick. DUH. :D OK, Gramma wasn't a perfect woman, but at least she recycled. What can I say, she was raised in a different time.
Carry on! [TM Tim Gunn] And...Try not to hurt yourselves! ;)

I just started DIY,
and already I feel like a vetran.
When I made my necklace, I was using gold spraypaint with no mouth/nose protection,
so I'm sure my lungs are now coated gold.
I was coughing for 3 days.
:/
Then, I was making a shirt,
and that %^&$ foot on the sewing machine kept stomping on my fingers!
And I've stabbed myself numerous times with needles, pins, and everything sharp that I've ever worked with.

My biggest "owie" is really when I ruin something, or that infamous hemming mishap. You know the one "this edge is jagged so I'll just trim it...." and ten inches later, it's straight and you've now got a size XXXXXXXS that will never fit you or your firstborn child. :( I don't mind hurting myself if it turns out okay in the end. But one of my recurring aches is in my arm/shoulder, and in the palm of my right hand from guiding fabric through the machine for hours.

i was sewing at my work one time, and sewed my finger. it was cool. the needle broke off in to my finger and went down to the bone. i have no idea how i managed that. i've also cut the inside part of my hand inbetween the thumb and pointer with scissors and a rotary cutter. i'm accident prone.

I was cutting a stencil for my bf's guitar case out of posterboard with an xacto knife. Well, I slipped and ended up cutting halfway through my thumbnail. My white posterboard was spotted red, I'd never seen blood spurt before. lol

My hands have a few teeny scars from sharp chisels, screwdrivers, scalpels and saws. I've stabbed my lips when holding pins or needles with them, my thighs when sewing, and of course my hands.
I'm told my dad's brother stood on a needle that was buried in the pile of his carpet once. The thread was still attached, and he had driven it right into his foot, kinda at an angle. So he went and got dressed again (he had been ready to go to bed) and drove to hospital. Apparently the junior doctor that saw him nearly fainted!

i was sewing at my work one time, and sewed my finger. it was cool. the needle broke off in to my finger and went down to the bone. i have no idea how i managed that. i've also cut the inside part of my hand inbetween the thumb and pointer with scissors and a rotary cutter. i'm accident prone.
OWWW!!! down to the bone, dang!

Gah. My worst one ever.
I was really young, like kindergarten young. (Baby DIY-er!)
I was making a pencil holder out of a milk carton, and I had a box cutter.
Wellll, I cut a two inch long, and very deep cut on my left thumb.
Bleeding like craaaazy, emergency room, and several stitches.
The horrors.
Wow. . .You were in KINDERGARTEN and had a BOX CUTTER????? wow. not sure if you were really good for your age, or if your teacher had had a labotomy. WTF? That's so uuuber dangerous. Just. . . wow.

I don't have any big ows to speak of. The usual pin and needle pricks (although pricking yourself with a leather needled hurts more than the regular needles) and the fun little glue gun burns.
Then there are two others which really aren't ouches but I thought I'd share anyway because they are kind of funny.
A few months ago I was using quickfuse to iron on a face to a plushie I was making. Unfortunately I got confused with the instructions (3am is a bad time to do things!) and put the glue face up when I had the iron on it, instead of having it face down... so my iron had this odd smiling face for a while.
Also when I was about ten I decided to make the cat something to sleep in. So I got some shoe boxes together and taped them and cut them with doorways and stuff. Even had a thing inside for the cat to curl up on. I didn't like the color of the shoe boxes though. So I got some of those washable smelly markers and colored them. It dried but washable markers don't stick to well to the shiny surface of shoe boxes. The cat really liked the thing I made her... my mom didn't appreciate the cat having blue paws so much though. ^^

the magnet on a stick is the best idea ever i am always losing needles and finding them in my feet i once stepped on afish hook too nothing to do with diy but in the same family of stepping on sharp objects, i also have sat on a few needles. I have a creative injury though sometimes if only have one pin in my mouth i will flip it back in forth so the pointy end is out pointy end in ect. and i stabbed the roof of my mouth, ive done this a few times but i still cant help it i dont realy notice im doing it untill i stab myself.

:(to lady jane I know how your shoulder feels. I'm a boy so I don't make myself skirts but as a hobby I crochet and knit. Sometimes i'll do it so long that my arm becomes really achy and hurts like hell. It's one of the worst feelings in the world isn't it. Not to forget the physical pain, but usually when this happens to me I have to stop a few stitches before the end. How about you? Other than that I've burned myself on hot glue guns and irons, stuck my self with needles, and I've actually cut myself with scissors because I had yarn in the scissors and thy scissors were to close to my fingers. DIY can be a real BITCH in the pain department.:(

My first ever sewing project (which ended up horrible, by the way) was resizing a pair of jeans that were just way too big. I didn't have a machine, so i was hand-sewing down the side and I was one stitch away from finishing. The next thing I knew, my needle broke (of course). I had double threaded it, so replacing the needle would force me to back-track. So what do I do? I try to force the needle through the jeans one last time. I felt a sudden sting on the left thumb, the one above the nail pressing the needle down. I lifted my other hand up, and I had a needle going through my nail. Thank god it was only the white part, so it didn't hurt. But I had a ton of showing off the needle on my nail and telling all my friends why I had a hole in my nail!
Ever since then, I haven't used my bare fingers when a needle doesn't go through the fabric easily.

I was making a Paul Frank Watermelon for my friend's birthday a couple years ago, I had the fabric on my leg and was cutting the shape out. I somehow stabbed my thigh and didn't realize until I was bleeding everywhere. I was freaking out. But at least no blood got on the fabric! :D

I had to buy myself a cool-temp glue gun. I'm impatient and a diy perfectionist, so if it isn't perfect I have to dip my finger in at that VERY MOMENT and adjust it.
Before the cool-temp, episodes like the above led to screeching and rolling on the floor. And much wiping of the finger on the carpet.
I also have a wide array of safety scissors, because you never know..
I keep my x-acto knife in its own plastic protected case because i am afraid of it.
AND I wear thick socks at all times in my room, because i have had straight pins stuck deeeeeeep into my foot before. Once I even pinned my jeans to the sole of my foot. That was a hard one to get out..

Last week thursday, I had to finish my art history project....it counted as a final exam.
I did my project based off coco chanel, one of the first modern fashion designers. Like Chanel, I took things I had already, and made an outfit.
I was using a rotary cutter to cut up some tee shirts.....and went right over my finger. The cut was pretty deep.
BUT....it all paid off cause my teacher loved it so much, shes going to out it on display in the school art show. on a mannequin and everything!
Oh, pinning through multiple layers of velvet, lining and such, have jab pins right up under three of my fingernails, on the left hand, pinky, and ring finger. On the fright hand pinky and ring finger.
Have snip the webbing between my fingers, especially between the thumbs and pointer fingers.
On the sewing machine, sewed right through the thumbnail of my left hand.
And with each object I have sewn I have bled on the fabric, because of jabs to the pads of my finger tips.
There have been ironing burns on my arms, sore shoulder and back muscles from long hours at the machine, stiff wrists and fingers from long sessions of pinning thru heavy fabric and long lengths. Eyestrain. Oh and steeping on pins and needles with barefeet.
My first ever sewing project (which ended up horrible, by the way) was resizing a pair of jeans that were just way too big. I didn't have a machine, so i was hand-sewing down the side and I was one stitch away from finishing. The next thing I knew, my needle broke (of course). Ever since then, I haven't used my bare fingers when a needle doesn't go through the fabric easily.
I use a leather patch to push through fabric and have even used pliers to pull those things thru because I have stabbed myself bunches, too.

When you are fitting jeans, how in the heck do you manage to shimmy out of the pins? I've pricked myself with a pin before, but NOT to that amount.
You put the pin heads in the direction you're taking the pants off, so you pin the sharp bits toward the ceiling.
It doesn't stop it totally, but it helps.
My worst injury crafting was burning myself pretty badly with a hot glue gun. But thats not near the worst I've done to myself. Once I sliced off so much of a thumb that it's still skinnier than the other one. And the worst part is, I did it with a cheese slicer. I feel idiotic whenever I think of it. XD.
And then there was the time I was making tea and the water happened to jump out of the pot (none of it was MY fault, it was the water's) and I burned my stomach really badly.

So far in my life of crafting I've had two bad injuries .
once while carving a block print my hand holding the gouge slipped and I stuck myself in the other hand.
But the worst has been while soldering jewelry I ran out of solder. I turned and grabbed more and then without looking went to grap the soldering iron. I grabbed the wrong end.

I dropped a pin on the floor the other day and didn't know it until I stepped on it. And whenever I'm sewing something big, I always pile the part that hasn't been sewn yet in my lap, and being the big girl that I am, I always poke my stomach with the pins.

So.. I havent yet managed to read through the entire and impressive amount of entries that comprise this thread, but as Crafting and Injuries together like George W. and mispronunciation, I thought I'd share my own torrid tales of creative mishap.
I've managed the almost prerequisite follies involving the hot glue gun, and iron though my two favorites were undoubtably:
I was melting trash bags for fabric and I left the iron on too long in the center.. I picked up the (cooler) side of the now-condensed plastic to move and it folded around and hit me with the near-molten core. If anyone's ever recieved a serious burn from cheese, they know exactly the consistancy I'm talking about. It wouldn't have been so bad if the plastic didnt stick to the skin... so.. WEEeeeee
My other favorite burn only recently faded away. It was probably.. 5? 6? years ago. I was metal working and made this little cross from a pair of old vintage square nails I found at a yard sale. The pendant turned out beautifully. I sat it down and came back to it a few minutes later.. I picked it up and apparently the soldering iron at some point shifted to come into contact with said cross..and the entire thing was extremely hot. Now.. whatever magical force that pushed the two together while i was gone moved the iron in another direction before i came back, so I grabbed the thing unaware.
Try running around in eyeliner and a black coat and explaining a cross burnt upside down into your hand. Oh the joy.
I have jabbed pins under my nail bed many many times. *shudder* For those of you that haven't - don't.
And my favorite tale of them all:
I bought a brand new ultra-fine pointed Xacto for a stamp i was making from wood.. i spent the entire time paranoid i was going to split my hand open in some way so every cut was meticulous and careful. It took me ages to get it finished, but that's fine. Safety first.
No sooner do I finish said stamp that I walk into the kitchen to make dinner. I open up a can of raviolis because I was lazy, and as I'm reaching for it the cat knocks a couple plates off the counter, shattering them and startling me.
After all that time being careful with the Xacto, I nearly lopped off a sizable piece of my thumb from the razor-sharp can lid.
*sighs*

Uhm, it's not really an owie ow ow ouch moment, but one time a few years ago, I had been working on some sewing project and had carelessly left my pins on the carpet. Later I had crawled into my beanbag chair, and my foot kept feeling weird and itching, and I finally looked at it, and there was this pin sticking straight out of my foot through my sock. :D

well when i was younger, i was scraping glue off of this peice of wood. And as luck would have it the scissors slipped right into the meaty part of my right hand below my pinky. oh boy..there was bleeding. anyways i got 3 stitches and I used the scar to learn "right" from "left"

I did almost the same! I was doing some practice carving in a bit of pine, being paranoid careful, and managed to keep myself intact. I decided to take a break and broke out the scissors to cut out shirtboard, to re-enforce some crumbling book covers, and promptley sliced my thumb up so good it bled straight through the first bandaid in less then a minute. No one would believe I didn't do it woodcarving!

I don't know if I am lucky or just blessed. Other than a few needle pricks when hand sewing, my major sewing injuries happened in my childhood when learning to sew. As a child I was easily frustrated and one day I had a project sitting on my lap that wasn't going well. In anger I slammed a my fist into my thigh, also into my thigh went a pin clear up to the head. I quicly lost my anger and it kind of took my breath away. I never did that again. I also managed to tip an iron over and rest my wrist on it wil ironing. I still have the scar on my wrist.
I don't do so well with other crafts and tools I frequently hurt myself and and the objects around me, but not quite as severely as you all.
Happy crafting.

I was working on a jewelry project and was burning slag out of the crucible, and I lost concentration and dropped the picker (sort of a slightly pointy metal stick). So I grabbed it forgetting what I was doing with it and cauterized three of my fingers. (That means burning them beyond 3rd degree) It hurt a little.
And I used to work at a yacht club managing race courses for the sailboats. And I was pulling anchors and dislocated my shoulder, resulting in stretching out all the ligaments and tendons. I had surgery and 6 months of physical therapy to fix that. I really don't recommend it.

:P I've had the requisite hot-glue incidents, plus soldering iron burns, splinters of wood put through fingers, cheese-grated my fingers (and the wristband of jacket!)
I've sliced the fleshy bit at the base of my thumb with a craft knife. I was taking the head off an old pony (a regular activity in my house!) and slipped. Two teatowels and a good chunk of paper towels later, I had an impressive wound :)
What else? Blisters from overenthusiastic plier activity, poking myself with bits of wire, burning myself with boiling dye...I'm good at this whole DIY masochism thing!

I stepped on a toothpick left over from making paper beads a while ago. It went in really deep and it hurt way more than I had imagined. I couldn't walk right for at least a week! Those "tattoo" band-aids for kids that are clear (except for some kind of picture) and really sticky worked wonders for me.
Also, the tip of my left pointer finger gets really sore. And when I used charcoal for a while, my hands got really gross and dirty, and the pores in my palms were perpetually filled with black charcoal dust. (I guess these are more annoyances than injuries...)

You are hand stitching? Wow. You seriously need a sewing machine. They can be had for anywhere from $15 (at a thrift store) to $15,000. I bought a Green Hello Kitty machine on ebay (brand new for ) $39.99...it's a smallish machine (I believe it's pretty much the same machine Meg has only different color). Works really well and it's not a toy. If you get that one though go buy a pack of the metal bobbins for it..they work way better. :)
You do get serious points for actually hand sewing a skirt. :) I would never have the patience. Just my thoughts, but hey if hand-sewing is your thang...then go for it and enjoy!!!
Oh yeah, regarding injuries..I burned my wrist on the iron also and still have a scar. It looks a little maybe I have *other* mental issues and tried to slit it or something...but nope...is just from the iron. :)
Well, there wasn't an off-topic board, but I think this is still on-topic. :)
Share your latest DIY owie stories!
OK, you?

when i was little--five-ish-- i wanted to sew on my mom's machine. she had taught me how to hand-sew and grandma taught me to embroider...
mom was out of the room, and i was standing there looking at the machine, wondering if the needle would bounce off my nail. didn't really consider the alternative...
sewing machine on... finger under the needle... pressure on the peddle...
down, up, down, up, down, up.
I guess I screamed. my big brother was the first one there...
when my mom came into the room, she yelled at my brother "what did you do to her?!" well, it wasn't his fault this time, but i'm sure he deserved it for something else... lol...
and i had one throbbing , bloody finger. i told my parents i just wanted to sew, myself.
the first pun i remember ever hearing? "well, you did sew yourself..."
not very funny, dad...

I was about eight when I finally learned to put my needles away... the hard way. I stepped on an extremely large yarn darner that went through my shoe. Dad had to pull it out with a pair of pliers.
I've got numerous little slices on my hands, a few V shaped nicks in my fingers, all from scissors snips.

Once when I was little I liked to play around with the huge foot pedal on my mom's 1879 Singer and I got my hand smashed by it, luckily nothing was fractured or broken. But that taught me to not screw around with it. lol.
And this didn't happen to me but it happened to a girl in sewing class the semester before I took it. She was sewing and not paying attention and sewed right into her index finger. So the sewing teacher took her down to the woodshop classroom like she usually did with kids that sewed themselves to have the woodshop teacher try and pluck it out with pliers. He couldn't do it and suggested the girl go to the doctor because it might be jammed in the bone so the girl's dad showed up to check her out, he took a look at it and decided he could get it out with his Leatherman tool pliers. He snapped the needle off under her skin, so the doctors ended up slicing her finger open to get the needle tip out of the bone. OUCH!

there is a reason why i say "needels hurt"
they do
I was sewing jeans when the needle from the sewing machine went through that skin part on your hand between the pointer and the thumb
that hurt!
all i could do is call my mom and have her cut the thread put the needle up and take me to the hospital
my mom than looked at me *with this ginormous bandage on my hand* and go "How the hell did you pull this one off stupid?!?!?!' And the funny part is i really have no idea

Gosh, this is my first post. *frightened*
Anyhow, I've been really fortunate compaired to you guys. The only huge DIY injury I've ever gotten was when I was hand sewing my elastic and ribbons onto my pointe shoes. I stupedly didn't put anything over my fingers, so they were ripped up and it hurt to hold anything for quite some time.
And, of course, all of the typing, sewing, and knitting I do, I predict I'll have arthritis by the time I'm twenty.

When I was about 10 or so I challenged my little brother to a knitting needle duel, and accidently shoved it up his nose.

Well, I was making the bottle cap earrings from one of the earlier episodes of threadbanger (throwback, huh?) and I was at the part where you flatten them with a hammer. I decided that It would be easier to hammer if i held them steady with my index finger and thumb ( a little dumb huh?) so I tryed it.
Long story short, my fingers had a heartbeat for a couple of minutes, and my pottymouth was exposed.

Well, I've cut myself with an x-acto blade before. I was building a model car. That's still crafting. I was cutting off the little bits that are left on the pieces when you pop them out. And it flew right off the thing and into my finger. I almost lost a knuckle. There's only one section of that finger I've yet to scar. The upper end has a scar on it from something not crafty but much more stupid. You know those freezepops...well my mom had gotten this fancy knives a while back from some show they did at walmart...they just seemed amazing and she HAD to have them. There was one with a forked end and me and my brother used it you slice the pops open. I missed my pop...and nearly sliced my finger in two. I got down to the bone though. Needless to say..I'm much more safe when I open my desserts.

Well I am injury prone so I have stabbed myself plenty of times! Drop things on my feet all the time! The worst was burning myself on an iron during a home economics class! OMG! It hurt so bad. Three years later and I still have a scar.

Well so far I've sliced my thumb "testing" the sharpness of my fabric scissors. It wasn't cutting smoothly so I ran my finger down one of the blades and sure enough, the sharpest part wasn't the edge but towards the middle... fun. I became light-headed / dizzy bleaching t-shirts. Even though I was outside, I guess I was too close to it. Apart from that, just the standard pricking yourself with needles while hand stiching / basting.
No other injuries yet

I did this yesterday. I still can't believe I did this!
Well people yesterday was a prime example of my clumsy-ness.
Well it started when my sis had somehow lost her alarm clock in our bedroom. Also in my bedroom I keep my knitting basket which has many, many knitting needles protruding from it.
So as I bent down to look under the bed for the alram clock, I managed to sit on a 4mm needle!!! My god it f*****g hurt!
I shot back up to find that the needle was sticking outta my ass!! I pulled that f***er out and now have a very sore ass, and unable to sit properly.
It woulda made a great youtube moment though!

Oh, and once I was in the garage just messing around with 2 friends. I found some scrap wood, nails and a hammer. I decided I was going to make a toy airplane, and I started nailing it together. Long story short, I missed. Badly. My finger was four inches away, and I still hit it. My index finger had a nasty blood blister for more than a month, and I still shiver thinking of it. It hurt like h***. One of my friends just stared, and the other said "Oh my!" and ran inside the house.

I've taken chunks out of my finger while carving linoleum blocks before.
as in;
teacher: you're holding your block wrong.
me: but i can't do it the other way.
teacher: yah, but that way you're going to slip and stab yourself.
me: no i won't.
teacher: whatever, just don't blame m-
me: *slips and stabs self* pooie.
oh, i also used to always sew sock dolls for my friends, and one time i accidently lost a needle inside one. I forgot it was there and gave it to her anyways, so the next day she told me how she was hugging it and found a "surprise."

over spring break i rammed a threaded needle into my foot (it was stuck in the carpet) BLUNT SIDE IN :( and i couldn't pull it out because it broke off inside of it. i had to be rushed to the emergency room, and literally spent most of the night there. we got there at six in the afternoon and didn't get out until one thirty in the morning. (not because of me, but because we had to wait so long.) my foot hurt so bad i was on pain killers for a day, and i had to take this antibiotic that made me sick and slightly hallucinate (thought i saw circles moving around in the sky) and was on crutches for a week!

Once, I dropped my mom's sewing box (back when I used to borrow her sewing stuff, lol) and pins went everywhere. Well, I thought I picked up all of them, but later I was walking through that part of the living room and only shinanigans could ensue:
Erin: "Lalalala....*steps on a needle* OW!!"
Mom: "What happened?"
Erin: "I must have missed a needle!"
Mom: "Well, where is it now?"
Erin: "IN MY FOOT!!"
The worst part of the story is I actually got stuck with the blunter end of the needle. : (

Once my dad was trying to carve a branch with a knife, it slipped and he lopped off a good half centimeter of the top of his pinky. So he just stuck it back on and put a bunch of band-aids over it. It eventually healed back over, but he still doesn't have feeling in the tip of his pinky. He was like 13.

The worst injury I have was when I was recovering a binder with some red material and a hot glue. I didn't have a gun so I was using my moms hot glue put and a wooden stick. I forget how it happened exactly but I managed to cover two fingers in hot glue. It was so painful. I couldn't be most of the glue off until it dried and by then one of my finger had swollan under the mail and both of them were blistering.. so when I was taking off the glue I was pulling off part of the blisters.. it hurt so bad.. I shudder just thinking about it.

Well... this isnt exactly Diy. It sorta classifys as that. I was I think 6 years of age and I was at my grandmothers. My sister and my cousin were out on the back porch, my mom was inside fixing her hair for work. Anyways, I was bored so I starting coloring glass vases that were on my grandmothers back porch with washable markers. So I went to pick this huge one up, it was completely filled with water so I used all my strength to pick it up and bring it over to where my markers were. Little did I know that my grandmothers concrete was terribly uneven. It did this weird 2 inch thing... kinda like this _/-
I couldnt tell where I was going so I tripped and flipped in midair, while holding the vase and ended up bleeding really bad. My sister got my mom and wer couldnt tell where the blood was coming from, it was down both of my arms and legs so my mom wrapped me in towels and took me to the hospital. I got 38 stitches on my right knee, 13 stitches on the back of my left leg and 8 stitches on the back of my middle finger on my right hand.
It didnt hurt.
I have many more of these stories but ive ranted so, sorry.
I hurt myself allll the time. I think the people at the doctors know me (no joke)
But a few weeks ago i was staying the weekend at my friends house because she was going to be in a play, and i was helping her with her outfit. Well it was like 6 in the morning she had to go for the last dress rehearsal or whatever it's called. And i had to make a last minute repair on her dress so i was holding it and running down the hallway to get thread. I tripped over the dress and fell, cutting my head on a nail sticking out of the wall. I had to get 10 stitches :o

Hurting yourself seems like a MUST during any DIY process...Esp. for the less experienced.
It's like a sadistic/masochistic relationship with the needles and the scissors, if you think about it carefully.
They give you immense pleasures and satisfaction, yet a lot of pain and suffering as well.

Lol..funny, I was trying to make a wallet myself last night (for some stupid reason, I was using a hot glue gun instead of sewing it) and stuck my finger right into a a big glob of fresh-out-of-the-gun glue. Yeah, i'm smooth. I've melted my carpet a couple times too lmao, there's burn marks allover it from me ironing stuff on too high of a setting.
Oh yeah, and the other night when I was hand sewing something, I accidently poked myself in the finger and sewed through a chunk of skin on it. That's what I get for not paying attention I guess XD

dunno if this is exactly DIY but i was making cookies. i pulled the tray out to see it they were done cause im so damn picky. went to put them back in the oven. forgot the oven door is a little stiff so tugged it really hard. my arm went flying into a hot baking tray right on the elbow crease. that was monday night, wednesday night i was at the hospital cause i suck and i got a really bad infection. :(
added to the fact no one actually beleives i did it on a baking tray cause of where the burn is.
many stories with burns & hot glue guns, the odd needle in the finger.

Well, all my fingers are pricked, all the time. So what I do is I match the band-aids to my outfit. XD
Or I draw on normal band-aids. 'Tis fun.
I also have a little emo scar on my wrist from a pair of sciccors that doesn't like me. I was cutting some t-shirt fabric, and the sciccors sort of caught onto something underneath, and I flipped my arm and the sciccors, which slit my wrist a little. Hurt. Badly.
I was also cutting some excess thread off, and the sciccors stabbed the webbing of my thumb and pointer. Now one webbing feels normal, and the one I cute is gushy.
Ooo! One more! I was fitting a garnment on my friend. It was a bit small, but I was determined. XD A button flew off and hit me in the eye.

My first major injury and my first post.
So this just happened, I was sewing the seams of a recon I'm working on. I guess I wasn't fully paying attention because I ended up sewing my middle finger of my left hand and breaking the needle off dead center of my nail. After screaming for a few seconds, my dad took the plies to it to rip it out. Blood was EVERYWHERE. Now I wish I had've gotten pictures. Needless to say I won't be sewing for a bit as I'm a tad frightened of my monster machine...and I no longer have a needle...

i was sewing about 5 layers of vinyl and i had some metal pieces glued onto the fabric. It was a costume for halloween about 6 years ago. Anyways, the needle acidentally hit the metal plate in the fabric and the needle shattered...a piece of it got on my lower eyelid somehow! OUCH! But im fine now there were no long term side effects...so thats cool. I also had the needle go through the side of my thumb at least 5 stitches until i released my foot from the foot pedal.

I just read through the whole thread again OH MY.
Just last week I almost caused what could have been a horrible situation involving me and 2 friends by leaving my exacto knife on my couch the night before (I had been making one of those secret notebook storage things)..
We were at my house for a project and.. One of them sat down on the couch, "Oh look, what's this? hahaha.."
She knows me well enough to expect these sort of things (evey time she enters my room she aks if she should watch out for pins and if the iron on the floor is on etc. gosh.) but my other friend did look a little uncomfortable xD
Also. I am considering starting to sew with goggles on incase of needle breakage.

I myself have done to myself:
-superglued my fingers to my eyelid
-sewn through my finger
-cut myself on a leather carving knife (swivel knife)
-caused wax burns on my hands
-near destroyed my eyesight by a flying sewing machine needle that broke (it hit my cheek so im ok)
-burnt my finger tips on a wood burning iron
-caused vertigo on myself from various spray dyes and fixatives
-glued my nostrils together from spray glue fumes
-had a size us 3 knitting needle go through my bag, through my jeans, through my thigh. (still have the scar from that)
-accidently slipped and had a pin go under my fingernail (that stung for a while)
-many war wounds from my cat while fighting over the fact that i needed to finish a project which she was sleeping on
Stuff i inadvertantly did to others:
-my boyfriend skewered wire right through his pinky finger while picking up a box of my beads and not realizing the box was held shut with a piece of 20 guage brass wire
-caused nausia through the house with the smell of burnt vinegar while dying roves of wool
-my cat trying to help herself to my pin cushion by biting and almost swallowing some pins (i managed to dig my finger down her throat in time before she swallowed the pins...stoooopid cat!!!)

Hmm, let's see.
-stepped on numerous pins in the floor
-stabbed myself repeatedly with pins/seam ripper/needle/scissors
-cut off tip of my finger with scissors
-cut a big V shaped whole in my arm (really should of got stitches, cut so deep) when trying to snip something while I had it on. Not my most bril moment there, but now I have a cool scar. *sarcasm*
-sewn my hair, in a pony tail at the time into a piece.
-stabbed myself in the legs with pins multiple times.
-burnt my hands with the iron
-burnt my leg when my iron wasn't set down proper and it fell onto my leg.
-not to me, but melted a hole in my couch when the iron fell on it for a second. Stupid polyester couch.
-put a hand needle through the side of my finger while sewing watching TV.
-smacked my head on my sewing table multiple times when bending over to pick up something or to unplug the machine.
Amazingly I haven't sewn through my finger on the machine yet. I have sewn my shirt into what I am sewing though along with my hair.

I was recording a tutorial on how to make an apron. At the time I didn't have a table for sewing, so I was on the floor with my laptop on couch. Sewing machine on the floor with me, and the iron behind me.
Needing to re-adjust, I placed the iron behind me and slide forward to pull the sewing machine closer. I went to move back into position, swinging my arm back, placing it on the ground and hoisting myself up. When I smelled something burning, keep in mind my butt is now off the floor. It was my arm, which was pressed against the Iron. I dropped myself to the floor and pulled my arm away.
Branded into my arm, the half shape of an iron. Bubbly, pink, slimey, burnt flesh... all on video. So I finished sewing the seam I was working on, before deciding to administer some first aid.
Shitty web cam picture after I'd fixed it up a bit.

recently, i tried to put a pin in my mouth (just to hold it there) missed, and it went through my lip piercing.
not painful, but weird feeling.
many incidents with exacto knives and hot irons have left scars though....

Yesterday i was just finished with a project and so happy i ws done and i was putting my scissors away and stabbed my self in the middle of my hand. It hurt. I also once cut a pretty big chunk out of the end of my finger when i was cutting something else. and i was making a book that u can keep stuff in and while i was cutting the pages with a carboard knife it slipped and cut a big cut right in between my fingers. that hurt really bad.
Wow, appearantly i don't do well with pointy objects :-p haha

O man I have been sewing more times than I can count and have had the presser foot come down and smash my finger! I just get so into it that I forget where my hands are ^^; I've had several needles go halfway into the soles of my feet, and sometimes I can get blisters on my fingers from hand sewing with embroidery needles. But the pain is instantly forgotten that first time you try your garment on, yknow? :D

my bigges problem is when i sitt and knit infront of my computer, reading this forum, waching a movie. anything really...
now how can she hurt her self by sitting in front of the computer knitting you say...
well i usually use lots of different balls of yarn, and when it entangles into echouther i have to bend down to pick them up you see...
guess im to stupid to learn : AVOIDE THE EDGE OF THE DESK WHILE BENDING DOWN!!
not the most serious of damages, but pretty anoying if you tell me...

I was running down the hall, and embedded a huge yarn needle with the dull end for sewing on knits into the heel of my foot into the bone. It wouldn't pull out by hand, so I asked my oldest kid to go get the pliers. That did the trick, but I thought I was going to pass out before I could pull it out. Didn't bleed but a drop or two, but holy cow did it hurt. Kids got a lecture about taking sewing stuff out of the sewing room. I think the sight of their mother pulling a 3 inch needle out of her foot with pliers made a huge impression. Not sure what kind, but they don't mess with my sewing stuff anymore without asking.

i did work experience at this bridal place and helped at the handwork table. having completely failed at any handsewing/beading work beforehand, i managed to get my thumb and finger so POKED that they bled by the end of the week. it took me days to be able to use them without feeling pain lol xD

I've been knitting a lot more and I tried to knit t-shirt material. Well, t-shirt is very hard to knit, more then you'd think. So, my finger was raw for a whole day.
I also snipped my ring finger when I was cutting t-shirt strips. And poked my fingers with a neddle a few times when I was sewing stuff to my shoes.

While working on our head dresses for our first bellydance gig as a troupe for next weekend (cause we did a dress rehersal today), i burnt my finger so badly on the hot glue gun, that i have a burn mark that is the size of a dime on my left index finger, and the bandaid i put on it peeled all the skin right off it.

Oooh! I know how that feels. I was being an idiot one time, so I put some hi-temp glue onto a foam construction ball, and stuck it to my forehead. It pulled off the skin when I took it off, and it looked like I had a silver-dolar sized Bhindi for weeks.
Also, two or so weeks ago, I was using a school sewing machine and It crept up on my finger. It went right straight through the center of my nail, and out the other side. I turned the rotator wheel the wrong way to lift the needle quicker, and slid my finger down and off the needle. I got up to get a band-aid, started to feel dizzy, so I went to sit back down. As I was sitting down, I stumbled into a counter, next thing I know, I'm looking up at the teacher, and shes asking me my name. A few moments later, I find out (because of the pain in my ankle and head) that on the way down, I Hit my head on the plaster wall behind me and twisted my ankle. They called the nurse to come get me in a wheelchair. I stayed in the nurses office for the rest of the day because no one could pick me up.

Oh man, One day I was sewing (I don't have a sewing machine, so I was using a needle and thread) ans I dropped one of the needles on the floor with out knowing it. Well, i was looking for something under my bed (what I don't remember, I was a little preoccupied) and when I dropped to my knees the needles when right into my kneecap. OMG I was freaking out. Every time that I tried to pull it out it just went back in because the end was bent. Let me tell you what, I don't drop any needles any more.
Also, yesterday I sat on my upside down pin cushion. I also stood up pretty fast. :)

Well this happened on my way out to my dad's barn to get something for my latest project, well we recently had a really bad snow storm then ice storm so there was ice on top of the snow. I was walking then I found my self sliding on our driveway then I fell on some tire tracks from when we got our driveway plowed. I fell very very hard, cut up my hand (which has about 5 deep scratches), and I have a huge black and blue mark on my right side on my thigh.
They both really hurt!

I went to Metropolitan Arts Institute for highschool, and I took a 2d/3d design class, and we happened to be woodworking. I was using carving tools...you know, those heavyduty ones made of thick metal that's flat but sharp at the end. Well, I was carving this wooden bust (the head), and the tool slipped, and jammed straight in my left forefinger. Needless to say it jammed through the skin and into the muscle, leaving a nice gash about an inch wide. Needless to say, I had to get stitches for that.

Ow... my story is similar. I was carving a chain of hearts out of wood and I got careless and got in a hury and the carving knife slipped and went straight into my left palm... man, I was pissed because I had just bought new green chuck talor shoes and I got blood all over them and my mom's back patio. No insurance + urgent care +3 stiches = lots of money = sad :( I have to say though, while the doctor was trying to stitch up the gash, I said "Hey, this reminds me of a song," and he asked what song and I started to sing, "I got you under my skin..." The doctor and nurse started to laugh so hard they had to stop stitching for a minute... sadly, my mom was all like, "What? I never heard that song..." lol.
That was my second set of stiches though. The first set came from Highschool computer/hardware class where I was building a computer from scratch... I was trying to pop out a punched piece of metal at the front of the computer where the CD drive goes, and I didn't realize the metal twisted off to make the hole... so I was hitting it from the inside of the comptuter with the back of a screw driver. Once the metal gave way my entire hand went through that little tiny slot ripping open my right pinky knuckle... ow... again no insurance, a trip to Urgent care, and 2 stitches = sad.

I always end up burning the tips of my fingers with the hot glue gun XP
Most recently though the needle in my sewing machine decided it was fed up of living and decided to snap clean in two (I was sewing TULLE!) and the pointy bit flew up into my face, and scratched my face just below my eye, :( Owwie ouch.

Same thing happened to me!! I was just resizing an old t-shirt and WABAM needle said hello to my chin =[
I've stepped on a needle twice in the same day (same foot too), stepped on a sheet of shrinky dink paper and slid and fell on my but (that was about two minutes ago), and I dropped my dress form on my foot =/ I'm dangerous when I decide to diy anything >.<

I always end up bleeding when I make anything white, so I tend to avoid mixing sharp needles and white fabric.
pins are scratching my hands and fingers up the past few days. No blood yet. Just can't work on anything without getting jabbed... oh crikey. Thankfully just itty bitty stuff.

I've had the typical pin scratching, poking and the like. But my worst 'owies' were getting my finger under my sewing machine needle (it went all the way through to the nail...making typing ackward I might add) and awhile ago I accidently cut a bit of my finger off when using my rotery cutter :(

Making my own jams, i've spilled hot boiling jam on my foot. Now I wear shoes! Then there's the pin, pricks, and cuts from various sewing instruments. Splinters and bruises from building things. Skinned knuckles from fixing my car or bike. Dropped a couch on my toe.

in our high school they made us wear goggles while sewing, because the possibility of the needle shattering and going into one's eye was too great, and apparently it did happen in the Kitchener-Waterloo District school board area where I was taking school and grew up.
I sent the message off to the Mythbusters to see how likely it is for a needle to break off into someones' eyeball, but no one answered me on it yet

Wow, this thread is quite discouraging, haha. Since I'm a guy, I let my mom or grandma do all my sewing for me, so I've managed to avoid all those mishaps. However, growing up I recall stepping on needles many times, be it in the living room, kitchen, bathroom, I seriously could not get away from the things.

I think my worst has been cutting my thumb to the bone while cutting straps from a really evil piece of leather. In terms of damage, it really wasn't the worst I've sustained, but it was the worst cause of the embarrassment of cutting myself with the less than 1/32 of an inch of blade that was exposed past the guard.
I did manage, however, to keep the blood off of the leather so I didn't ruin my project.
And more recently, I was rebuilding a vintage sewing machine. I normally wear a hat when I work because I have kind of long hair, but I took the hat off so I could get better light while I was looking down the gears, I hit the lever so I could check the movement of the gears to see if it was clean and even... and a lock of my hair dropped into the gears and got torn from my head. Again, not physically all that bad, but very embarrassing and still rather painful.

Burned myself on hot glue more times than I can count. The worst is when I'm handstitching without a thimble and I shove the back end of the needle under my fingernail while trying to push it through the fabric. This was the worst when I was sewing white costumes for The Nutcracker and had to not bleed on them!

I was cutting glass for a mosaic once and wasn't wearing goggles because they were the crappy kind that make it hard to see. Long story short, I got a chunk of glass in my eye. Luckily, there was no permanent damage, but it was embarrassing, and I did have to dig around in my eye with tweezers for about ten minutes.
There was another time I was making a peacock out of aluminum. Since this was at school, and the funding was a little low, I was using scissors to cut the metal and hot gluing the whole thing together. I don't know how many cuts and burns I got making that thing. Most of them were minor, but the sheer number of them earned my creation the name, "Cesar, Peacock of Death".

it isn't really an injury but something i always do. i make a lot of cases and at time i embelish them and sew those on by hand. i cannot tell you how many times i've pushed the needle/thread on to the other side; therefore sewing the case shut from the inside!! then i realized that wouldn't happen if i put something inside it to stop me from going through. It's also 1:34AM, and its not bad enough for me to wake anyone up and complain to them, but it hurts like hell. I'm such a dumbass for using sharp frickin scissors whilst half asleep. Recently while helping my school with their play called 'eden' we were creating the 'tail feathers' for the two peacocks in the play, so while we were gluing the feathers on I set the glue gun down on the ground without realizing that glue was still coming out of the gun. My heel's are REALLY tough skinned because of walking around outside barefooted so much, they are really tough. So without realizing it, my heel got glue all over it. I stand up picking up the peacock tail with me and stood there for a few minutes, I go to take a step and my foot was glued to the floor... Naturally I pulled, and it ended up ripping the skin almost bare, it threatened to bleed but happily it didnt... I cut away the glue and attached skin and had to leave it on the floor... Oh the janitors were happy about that...
Trying to salvage a broken headset's magnets, my thumb slipped as I pressed the magnet compartment out of the headphone bed, and I ripped a circular patch of skin off.. about 1mm thick and 4 mm across. >.< It stung to wash it off. That was just a few hours ago, it's still bleeding a bit through the bandage. I learned the hard and painful way that whacking it with a hammer or pliers was a much better method of removing the magnet.

Oh, yes, and I managed to step on a random pin the other day, but thankfully my Gramma sewed for many years and I've learned that if you feel a jab in your foot you immediately lift said foot and check for pins!
Thank goodness it kind of jabbed into the callus-y part of my heel. It would have REALLY hurt if it got a sensitive spot. It didn't even bleed.
Not an injury, but I CAN'T be the only person who's done the "hand-sew stuff to your pants leg" trick! It's funny because I try to hold up my handiwork to admire it and *yank!*...stitched to my right jeans-leg. CRAP!
