haha this is my first threadbanger post! :D

Ok, so i recently turned 2 big black shirts into a slouchy and long black hobo bag but there is nothing on it! it's just this plain black bag. Im hoping to use it as a backpag in the fall and can't afford to buy appliques so i must make my own. i have plenty of extra ribbon, felt, and fabric but no idea how to make appliques that won't wrinkle up! ideas and suggestions would be much appreciated! :)

Ill post pics of the finished product once im done :o

sounds cool cant wait for pics.
One thing that i do for hats is use old or foreign coins. you drill 2 holes into them and use them like buttons or just hot glue them on. this looks amazing on black and will be a bit ironic (you know a hobo bag being decorated with money :P)

One idea for felt is to cut shapes out and then sew over them, close to the outside edge in a contrasting thread. You can also weave your ribbon and sew it on the outside flap as an extra pocket. Just make sure you reinforce the weave by sewing two lines side by side along the edges before you attach it to your bag. One thing - you should prewash all the stuff you plan to attach along with the bag to make sure it's preshrunk; wash it the way you intend to wash it once it's dirty, if you give it some kind of cold wash "special treatment", then forget and throw it in with your laundry, it may shrink (although that could be fun too)

does it have double layer?
if so a weave looking pattern of bright ribbon would look cool.
Just "weave" it in and out tying it at either end.

or you could take the coins, drill and hole and hand them from the bag in some fashion.
