A friend of mine is pregnant, so I thought it would be nice to crochet a teddy bear for the baby. Then my imagination went wild.
These are the pieces so far:

Nothing is sewn together yet. I wanted to put this nifty music box movement I'd got off the internet a few years ago into the bear so it would play the tune 'Teddy Bear Picnic'. I was also intending to crochet a little hoodie out of the green yarn pictured in the corner and fasten it with these buttons:

Then reality hit me.
This was for a baby. Which means,
A: I shouldn't use the plastic safety eyes, I should use felt.
B: No buttons on the hoodie.
C: The turn key for the music box movement wasn't such a hot idea either.
So now I'm torn. I could simplify things and make an entirely baby-proof bear. OR I could just go ahead and make the bear I wanted to- for no particular purpose, and make a different bear, a more child friendly bear for the baby. (I have plenty of time as she's only a few months along so far).

So what do you guys think?

The baby will only be stuffing things in his or her mouth so long and she or he will love your hoody bear! :)

I did think about that, but I have no idea when kids outgrow sticking things in their mouths, as I've never had one. I think I'll go ahead and make the bear the way I wanted to, and if nothing else I can give it to toys for tots come christmas.
