Name: Todd
Age: 13 (but i'm much older on the inside...)
How Long Have you been sewing: i've always known how, about a year ago i met threadbanger and fell in love lol
Why Diy?: well i was a serious artist and after multiple rejections due to my age, i discovered clothes, it was a wearable art form, and much easier to carry around than a hugemongus canvas...
Favorite DIY piece: hmmm i can NEVER pick a favorite anything ('cept movie, Pretty in Pink ftw) but i like my trenchcoat (i didn't make it but i'm giving it a diy flare

how long have you been sewing: as long as i can remember (so more than a week :D ) probably bout 6 or 7 years

InkyDinkyWho
09-28-2008, 04:42 PM
Hi I'm Inky Dinky Who but my friends call me Inky. :)
I'm an artist and a tattoo artist, I sculpt, make masks and costumes, am a life long crafter and maker of pretty things. :D I found this site and fell in love with all the awesome things here and just wanted to join.
Name(s): Inky or Donni, which is my real name. :)
Age: 20
How long you've been sewing: Since I was 5, my great granny taught me how. And I started making Barbie clothes lol.
Why DIY: Because I'm an artist and I love to create things. Also stuff never fits right cause I have umm, extra junk in the trunk...
Favorite DIY piece so far: I can't say, I've made a lot of stuff. lol I'd have to say one of my costumes.
Other Random Tidbits: The hot glue gun is your friend, the hot glue is not.
Azuris
09-28-2008, 05:53 PM
Name: Azuris or that chick who works at a sheetz is getting common in my area
Age: 20
Etsy/Website: no etsy yet :( but you can find me at XxTrinityxX on deviantart.com (http://xxtrinityxx.deviantart.com)
How long you've been sewing: since I was 12, i took a few years break from it when I got overly frustrated and then I've started back up when I lived in china and had to fix my own clothes and what not.
Why DIY: it's cheaper, more unique in the sea of sameness I seem to be finding any more and plus it gives me something to do in between my graveyard shifts. Plus my best friend and I have been talking about going into business making our own clothing. We already have a zazzle site set up for our odd and funny sayings and we figured we have good ideas for clothing, so why not attempt to market them?
Favorite DIY piece so far: My purse and my schoodie, plus I've been attatched to the in progress hoodie layered tshirt thing I've been working on.
Favorite DIY Tip: Don't get frustrated, during a project if you're feeling like it's going no where, set it aside, pop in a shooting game on your console of choice or scoure the internet for something exciting ( champion archer is a hoot (http://www.addictinggames.com/championarcher.html) )
Other Random Tidbits: I listen to music for inspiration, I read through magazines like allure and chop out the pictures they've pulled for the fashion ads and figure out how they make them and plan to remake them for alot less cash and a little more me styled. I am an odd size, women's clothing fits alright on me but doesn't look that flattering, misses sort of fits, but I have wide hips and it doesn't look great either, so I either have to do LONG searches for clothing I like or I get to make my own.

10-08-2008, 06:28 PM
Name(s): Joy, but I'm usually called Jellybean, Neko-chan, Juju, Butterfly, and silly things like that by my friends (online and off)
Age: 19
Etsy/Website: http://www.myspace.com/Death_of_Soul (http://www.myspace.com/Death_of_Soul)
How long you've been sewing: At least 4 years, but I don't have too, too much to show for it since I'm such a horrible procrastinator
Why DIY: Because I like trying to add my personal touch to something or making something I can't find anywhere else
Favorite DIY piece so far: my 'evil pixie skirt'. I wear it almost every time I wear my black jeans.
Other Random Tidbits: I often get inspiration for my creation ideas from random places. When I see an outfit I love, I tend to work bits and pieces of it into something I have or make. Though, I'm a professional procratinator, so I tend to put off sewing projects for a while, even though deep down I just want to sew my heart out!
Tampopo
10-08-2008, 07:51 PM
Why haven't I done this yet?
Name(s): Hm....I've held off letting my real name leak for so long, I'm not sure I want to cave. For now you can call me Tampopo. & I have too many nicknames to list here.
Age: I have similar thoughts regarding age as I do name, but alas: 17.
Etsy/Website: Trying to get together an Etsy. Don't have one yet, though. Also working on starting a blog. So maybe I'll update this thing later with the link. I've made a ton of websites over the years, but don't feel like dreding them up. & they were done some time ago, so they probalby look quite obsolete.
How long you've been sewing: Goodness, I think since I was old enough to hold a needle. I'm really not sure. Most of my life, though.
Why DIY: It's fun! It's a creative outlet. It's unique. I'm usually not completely satisfied with store bought clothes, so I like to either make my own or spruce stuff up. I like making other things besides clothing, though.
Favorite DIY piece so far: That's so (x10000) hard. At this very moment I'm feeling rather proud of the dress that I made from scratch with no pattern a month or so ago. It turned out just lovely. This may not be my favorite tomarrow, though.
Favorite DIY Tip: I have several: Pressing really does make a difference. Always press things as you are sewing. It's what can give it that proffessional touch that can ugrade something from "Wow, did you make that?" to "Wow, where can I buy one like that?". Be sure to leave seam allowences. It's really sad when you make something & it's just that much too small. Research! There are often several different ways to do something, so look it up online.
Other Random Tidbits: I'm a girl. I like blokes. I appreciate anime & manga. I'd love to live in Japan someday, simply because I'm in love with their culture. I have a beautiful relationship with the Spirit of Truth. Oh, I mess around with the guitar. I'm no master, but I can play it well enough. I love to sing. I'm better at singing than playing anything. I like music, but it's by no means "my life". I'm very insterested in politics. I'm pro Life.
OK, now I'm officially introduced.

Age: 30
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Etsy/Website: http://knittyknittykitty.blogspot.com/
or
'diy crazyness' in groups on facebook
How long you've been sewing: learned the basics when i was around 12 years old, got into more advanced ideas around 15-16 years old. mostly by machine
Why DIY: My size and fashion sence doesnt match with today's styles. I like various styles, and i find it hard to shop for anything that i like that actually fits properly. I also like the look on my friends faces when they realize what im wearing is all handmade
Favorite DIY piece so far: Hard to say...Ive made so many things.
Favorite DIY Tip: use extra strong dual duty thread. Your fabric will wear out before the thread snaps.
Other Random Tidbits: I can almost do any craft thrown at me.
Right now my major interests are Knitting, wool spinning, wool double ended dreadfalls, leatherwork, beading, drawing, painting, digital sketching (http://kiera-oona.deviantart.com/), costume and clothing creation, and quilting.
my minor interests are polymer clay, soap and candlemaking, crocheting, wire jewellery, latex prosthetic making, beading, and bookmaking. Other interests are bellydance, gemology, archery and Larping, (http://www.epoch-larp.ca)
needless to say my boyfriend cringes when i bring another craft home, but i make him stuff so it works out.

Age: 28
Etsy/Website: Earendil's Closet (http://www.earendilscloset.com/) in desperate need to update since movine
How long you've been sewing: Since I was about 8

Favorite DIY piece so far: Green and brown necklace I made.
Favorite DIY Tip: Do what you want. Don't worry about what other people will think about it. Just go with it.
Other Random Tidbits: I love music and movies. Am actually a theater major, though I rarely act any more at the moment. Love animals.

How long you've been sewing: Umm, little bits here and there since around age 10, but regularly for about a year.
Why DIY: Why not?
Favorite DIY piece so far: Probably the t shirt i reconstructed to make something like a jumper skirt, only better.
It was the first garment I ever made myself, and it came out great, I'm so proud.
And when I wore it to school I got like 20 compliments on it. =DD
Favorite DIY Tip: Don't be afraid to make mistakes.<3
And also, don't worry about what other people think. If the judge you for wearing what you like, they're SO not worth it. They should admire that you're wearing what you like.
Other Random Tidbits: I love project runway with a passion.
I want to be a fashion designer with every inch of my being.
I WILL attend parsons, the new school for design in paris, france.
I like gymnastics, a lot.

Name(s): Alexa or Lexardo
Age: 15
How long you've been sewing: well i watched my father fix his pants when i was 5 and just started hand sewing from there but now i have a machine XD
Why DIY:
i'm a bit of an odd so i like to be different from everyone else. and im not exactly the type to weer things that everyone else wears. Its kind of creepy to know that someone you don't know might be wearing the EXACT same thing you are...
Favorite DIY piece so far: my Necklace made of dental floss and homemade beads.
Favorite DIY Tip: The mare messed up it is the more it is your own.
Other Random Tidbits: I;m constantly called Allen's little sister I like a lot of odd music. I don't fit in but i do...its odd and i can't describe that one. The only reason i watch footbal is to watch the guys butts. Jaylin scares me.

Name(s): Jessie "Lil Jizzy" (dont ask lol) Carroll
Age: 18
How long you've been sewing: since i was about 16. i started taking a fashion class at my high school and learned to sew from that.
Why DIY: why not? lol as a "punk" its kinda hard to find shit i like at normal stores. so i make my own clothes from stuff i find at thrift stores and punk shops in town. since i live in Las Vegas, i dont have much choice of clothing stores that fit my needs. so it just makes sence to make my own stuff!
Favorite DIY piece so far: my micro mini skirt made from an XXL mens shirt.
Favorite DIY Tip: never cut before you try it on! the simplest and no brainer. but i have made the mistake of making a wrong estemations and end up not being able to fit my arm let alone my legs into a pair of pants ><
Other Random Tidbits: Im not artist, but i like to draw. i enjoy graphic novels and manga. i play several instriments including the cello bass and guitar. im no les claypool, but i can rock out :P i guess you could call me a punk...but i dont like to label myself.

Name(s): Dori, pencilofdoom
Age: 13
How long you've been sewing: Since I was 9. We had to make pillows in class, and I simply fell in love.
Why DIY: Because it's fun, you can be all, "I MADE THAT." when someone asks you, and what is more satisfying than knowing you worked and made something that you actually like
Favorite DIY piece so far: A purple and green striped crocheted/knitted scarf I made a couple of years ago.
Favorite DIY Tip: Salvage. If you totally screw something up, just salvage what you can and either start over or make something else.
Other Random Tidbits: I hate sports. I'd much rather sit on the sidelines and do something useful, like... KNIT! Or just do cross sums. I'm such a nerd.

Hello all.
My name is Siobhan and I am RedMushroom. I like to knit and craft and am learning to crochet. Goody!
I live in Australia and am very indecisive. I like the colour yellow and I would like to learn to make clothes out of recycled stuff. Plus, it can be personalised.
I like to talk, also. I also love magazines and writing.
This year, I hope to open an Etsy store -- finally!
Nice to meet you all.
Siobhs. :)

Eckie
01-10-2009, 02:00 PM
Name(s): Robert-Jon, but since anyone not from The Netherlands won't be able to prounounce that correctly, you can call me RJ or Eckie.
Age: 25
Website: http://dailyrj.blogspot.com/ - It's basically the place where I upload my creative stuff untill my new web-portfolio is finished. (Which may take another few months.) Oh, and most of it is in Dutch.
How long you've been sewing: Just finished my first project, but have been designing clothes for a few years.
Why DIY: Cause it's hella fun! I actually felt the urge to design and craft things from childhood, but in some strange way I've only recently really started doing it.
Favorite DIY piece so far: Cool funky tripod-sleeve. (http://forum.threadbanger.com/showthread.php?t=13092) (Only as wel as favorite DIY piece. ;))
Favorite DIY tip: Have fun!! Don't waste your time on anything else. (Ok, that was basically a life-tip, but one can apply it to DIY. ;))
Other Random Tidbits:
- I'm getting my Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design. That's basically product-design, but I couldn't care less about most products we cover. I use my designing skills for fashion and movies.
- I'm a Musician and aspiring Indie Filmmaker.
- I've made some strong female designs, but the lack of a willing model keeps me from actually fabricating them. Any help on finding one (maybe on this forum?) would be greatly appreciated.

Name(s): Cody (it's a girls name too! ^.^)
Age: 18
Website: just a facebook and myspace i guess. i donn't have any shop or anything yet. my moms a little paronoid about too much info on the internet so if i told her i was on this web site she'd freack out.
How long you've been sewing: i don't sew, my mom and sister do though. my mom can do it so well but she never does anymore cuz shes too busy with work. I knit and croshet (i can't spell that word for the life of me!!!) i love to knit more though becouse croting is just too easy.
Why DIY: because its fun. i mean you can make what ever YOU want not what the person next door wants or acrose the world wants, but what you want. its just so personl and it can represent who you as a person.
Favorite DIY piece so far: Philly my panda, and my first beennie, i wear it ALL the time. i don;t have to brush my hair that way iether haha :D
Other Random Tidbits:
Im a knitting neard, when ever i see somthing made out of yarn i have to examin it and guess the pattern and how it was constructed. im a dork that way. I think that NO doubt is the best band ever, not there rock steady though, that sucks, but there old ska stuff like there albums bacon street, return of saturn, tragic kingdome, and No doubt. AWESOME! and winne the pooh is too cool for words. ya thats me. :D

Name(s): Veronika. Call me Leth too. Call me anything else and I won't respond.
Age: 16 going 17
Website: dA. (www.lanausee.deviantart.com)
How long you've been sewing: Dunnoo. D:
Why DIY:
First of all I don't exactly have the "Woo, let's go shopping!" kind of mother, so she would always buy only necessities. Because they'd bore me, I'd customize them. We always stayed low on budget and all my money usually goes for art supplies, so I find DIY a fun and cheaper alternative.
Favorite DIY piece so far: My gothloli headdress. I don't really wear it these days, but it's a pretty little thing.
Other Random Tidbits: I'm very much into gothic scene and many kinds of alternative music. And very, very much into art. But speaking of music? Emilie Autumn is a genius.

01-29-2009, 08:23 PM
Name(s): Leah
Age: 24
How long you've been sewing: Since I was a kid. Hmm... 6 or 7?
Why DIY: Because it's so much more fun and satifying to make your own stuff then buy it if you know you can make it exactly how YOU want.
Favorite DIY piece so far: Hmmm thats tough, I have no idea.
Other Random Tidbits: I'm only 5'1" so people often mistake my age for someone much younger. Even when I was younger! lol I was new at a school and a teacher tried to make me line up with the 2nd graders and I had to explain I was in grade 4. She didnt' believe me till I told her my teachers name. So embrassing for a youngling:( lol
When I was 22 someone thought I was 16. I think that's the biggest age difference so far.

How long you've been sewing: a few things by hand when I was about thirteen or fourteen, and by machine since just before I turned fifteen.
Why DIY: Because I love the idea of making something custom fit for you, and exactly how you want it! and it's so fun to reuse materials too.
Favorite DIY piece so far: probably my two vests I've made.
Favorite DIY Tip: WRITE STUFF DOWN. :D I like to write everything down when I'm working on a project, from the stuff I need to buy, to the pieces I need to cut out (if making something from scratch), random stuff... yeah!
Other Random Tidbits: uhm, I'm obsessed with japanese street fashions (visual kei, oshare kei, fruits, etc), and japanese music. :3

why DIY?: um....why not? I used to see a piece of clothing i liked, but not 100%. I didnt liek a ruffle here, or elastic there. DIYing puts me in control! But also, i feel that when I diy im not hurting our earth, or supporting those that do!
fave diy tip: dont be afraid to experiment with anything! honestly, even if the experiment fails mmiserably, youll still learn something new!

Hello Thread bangers :)
My name is Salomé (that's a female name, I've been called Mr. before lol), I'm from Europe, I'm 25 years old. I've allways been interested in crafts and DIY, my mom used to make most of my clothing when I was little. We have a huge non electric sewing machine, it works by pedal (I don't know if I'm explaining it right lol). I don't get along with it very well :p
I found out about this place on youtube, I saw the featured pinata video because my niece (she's 3 years old) keeps asking me for a pinata on her up coming birthday. I've been lurking around here the past few days and I've seen really interesting ideas and everybody seems really nice. Hopefully I will post some projects from now on.
Beijos. (that's portuguese for kisses)
Name(s): Tina
Age: 18
Etsy/Website: none :( but I'm keeping my fingers crossed
How long you've been sewing: since i was 11
Why DIY:
A bunch or reasons:
~It's so much more satisfying to make something than to just buy it.
~When you see someone wearing a really cool shirt/dress/etc you don't have to go shopping and hope to find something similar.
~You choices aren't limited to what's in style at the moment.
~You don't have to try to be happy with a mass-produced, flimsy piece of crap that's going to fall apart after you wash it a couple times.
~You can combine style/design elements from a bunch of different things to get something totally unique that you absolutely love.
~The sky's the limit / you're only limited by your imagination / all those other cliches
~That look on people's faces after you say you made whatever they just complimented.
Favorite DIY piece so far: My prom dress and floor-length petticoat. I think that anything that requires 30 yards of fabric deserves a place of honor. (I'll get a post up in the Projects section eventually.)
Favorite DIY Tip: Inspiration! Look at pictures, look at old clothes (in museums and trift stores), surf the web, read. You find the best stuff in places you would never expect. If a picture is worth a thousand words then I've got an entire library shoved in a binder. But take notes too - sometimes I save pictures and can't remember why lol.
Other Random Tidbits: southpaws ftw!

How long you've been sewing: 5 years self-taught
Why DIY: Because it just comes naturally. I'm always thinking 'how can I make that myself?' or 'how can i transform this?' and if i can't, i'd rather buy it from someone else who did.
Favorite DIY piece so far: I recently made a halter dress for my 5yr old using my husband's old t-shirt. I did a freehand fern design with a clorox bleach pen off-center up one side. Bleach pen, i'm sure, is an old trick but i never tried it until now. Love the dress. might make one for myself!
Favorite DIY Tip: mistakes often turn out better than the orignal plan

How long have you been sewing: 18 or so years, Taught the basics by my incredible mother, Self taught myself pattern making and all the rest.
why DIY: because I'm petite but I also have a butt and boobs so petite things in stores did not fit me.
Favorite DIY piece: Anything I have made for my kids
Favorite DIY tip: Keep trying, you'll get it eventually
Random: I love all animals big or small

I just realized I never did this.
Name(s): Nicki (yes, that is cki not kki, not cky, not kky.)
Age: 15 (almost 16)
How long you've been sewing: I started hand sewing when I was 10, sewing dresses, skirts, and bathing suits for my sister's dolls. I just learned how to use a machine last summer and have been using one ever since.
Why DIY: DIY means you can be wearing something that no one else has. You can de-clutter your closet and make all those old unwanted things into a new amazing ensemble.
Favorite DIY piece so far: Probably my dress made out of old camp staff tee shirts. (I went to orientation for this summer and my boss loves it!)
Favorite DIY Tip:
-Make sure right sides are together. No, really...check again!
-Have everything you need in one spot.
Random: I'm not a vegetarian, but I love most vegetarian substitutes. Veggie Chinese food is my life.

Name(s): Rich
Age: 27
How long you've been sewing: I learned to sew because of a middle school class that introduced students to simple sewing projects. A few times since then I made a couple pillows until I met a women who is my soon to be fiance to the world of sewing all over again.
Why DIY: I am not the best example of a person who embodies a DIY-mantra. My fiance, for a long time, constructed some cool creations from purses to stuffed animals. It wasn't until I was invited to a fashion show for local designers did I decide that her and I could start our own clothing line.
Favorite DIY piece so far: A pair of denim jeans that I designed for a friend for a going-away present. Unfortunately the fiance did most of the work (we were tight on time and I was working a lot at the time) but next time I will put more of myself into it.
Favorite DIY Tip: Be brave to make a stellar piece that even if it takes eight hours to make because it is probably worth it.
Random: I love Good Society clothing company... look them up.

Name(s): Her-sourness, Sour, Sam
Age: 18
How long you've been sewing: I've dabbled here and there with machines and by hand since I was about 5, but I only recently started really trying to learn it all.
Why DIY: Well, I've always been in love with thrifty, recycled clothing. Saving things from the trash has always been a thing for me. I'm generally a very creative person making things, anything from food to clothing, has always been a great outlet for me. Plus, I'm a fairly big girl, and finding things that fit my style is almost impossible in retail.
Favorite DIY piece so far: Hmmm. Probably my hat. I loves my hat, featured in ma avatar.
Favorite DIY Tip: Chunky salsa makes an excelent brain matter prop.
Other Random Tidbits: In truth, I'm very strange. I'm extremely kind, can act very motherish with people I care for and I'm known to be very gentle, even though I can lift my dad, and have been known to stop people in a full on run without much effort. As friendly as I am, I am generally quite private and keep much of my life to myself.
In a nutshell: Friendly, packrat, loves to talk about stuff, enjoys her privacy.
So, um, Hi. :D

HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN SEWING: I'm pretty terrible at sewing, but that doesn't stop me from trying. A couple years ago I broke the needle on my aunts sewing machine and haven't used a machine since then.
WHY DIY: uhh...WHY NOT? I like to diy mostly because I'm bored. I'm really lacking ideas/motivation lately though. hmm...
FAVORITE DIY PROJECT SO FAR: I think my favorite would be the red scarf I knitted for a friend as a christmas gift last year because it was my first finished knitted project that actually came out nice. I've yet to make anything else that I really like yet.
FAVOITRE DIY TIP: I love http://www.knittinghelp.com. That's the site that really got me into knitting.
RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME: I'm kind of a lazy crafter lately. I haven't finished many projects lately either. I'm working on my knitting skills and I've just started crochet. I'll try out sewing again at some point soon I think....lets hope I don't break anything this time. Haha. I used to do a lot of tie-dying and that always came out great and I'm glad to see that its coming back into fashion.

Name(s):Shayla, Shay-Shay, Poohbear, Cookie Monster
Age: 15-soon to be 16 (but don't let it fool you, I have a lot of experience under my belt)
How long I've been sewing/DIYing: I've been sewing by hand since I was 5. I've been addicted to sewing by machine for two years (so much faster.) And i've been into DIY for over 4 years.
Why DIY: I was tired of going somewhere and seeing someone else wearing exactly what I was wearing.
Ever since I was little I was ennammered with crafting, painting and jewlery making. So naturally, progressing to sewing wasn't much of a leap.
I also enjoy the pride of wearing something you've made, or giving a gift to someone that was made by hand. I think it shows how much you care.
Favourite DIY piece so far: A hoodie that I made for my best friend for christmas. First I made the hoodie, then (because she loves Warhol) I screenprinted four Marilyn Monroe faces onto the front.
Favourite DIY Tip: Measure twice, cut once! Once you snip, you can't take it back. ALso, a change in perspective can help you avoid mistakes. I can't tell you how many times walking away from a pattern and then coming back to it has saved me from making a mistake. (Especially when working from my own patterns)
Other Random Tidbits: I love baking, cooking and sewing, although many people are shocked to learn this.
I would probably sell my soul for a really good oatmeal raisin cookie (the kind thats crispy at the edges and soft in the middle..MMM)
I'm a vegetarian (lacto-ovo-vegetarian).
I enjoy running (every night for 45 minutes), and usually get some of my best thinking/inspiration mid-run.
I read a lot. At least an hour a day.
I like my music LOUD. But doesn't everyone? and I listen to a million-and-one bands. My most favourite being Panic at the disco (scoff if you will).
New member, not new to threadbanger (been lurking as a guest for over a year) and definitely not new to DIY.

I don't know if I did this before, last year, but its been about since then that I was on this site, so I might as well go again.
Name(s): Crista
Age: 16
Etsy/Website: myspace.com/crista_xo ; twitter.com/xocrista ; & I have a Facebook, too.
How long you've been sewing: I don't like sewing, so I do the minimum. I'm a lot more into just cutting things up. Scissors, ftw. :)
Why DIY: Regular old shopping just gets to the point where absolutely everything looks the same. Also, I've had plenty of oversized or ugly t-shirts from races, charity events, and tourist traps that I never wear, so I decided to alter it to wear I actually WOULD wear it. Sometimes I do it to my jeans or pants, but I don't have many that I don't like so it doesn't happen very often. Also, knitting and crotcheting is a great thing to do when you're bored or if you want to multi-task. And I've recently got into painting, tye-dying, sharpie-ing, or bleaching clothes to make them appealing to the eye.
Other Random Tidbits: I'm obsessed with music & you probably can't find anything I don't like. Recently, I've also been lurking the "Last Movie You Watched" thread because I've been watching so many movies lately, with all the time I have on my hands.
:)

Name(s): Heather
Age: 17, I'll be 18 on the 9th
How long you've been sewing: By hand since I was tiny - at Christmas I made a stocking out of two bits of card sewn together, that was my first piece :P
Why DIY: I love making things, I've always been creative and it's a handy (and cheaper) way to look completely unique
Favorite DIY piece so far: I haven't made that much since I have to hand-sew everything, as the machine we've got is missing bits :P I did make a mini top hat recently, I haven't figured out how to attach it to my head yet but I love it anyway :P
Favorite DIY Tip: Anything is possible :P
Other Random Tidbits: I love music - pretty much everything, there's always exceptions to genres I don't generally like
I love books, especially fantasy
I'm also rubbish at describing myself :P
I'm kind of hoping being a member here will inspire me to make more stuff, I've already prepared myself to be the weirdo who sits and crochets on a Saturday night at uni XD

Why DIY: Im a guy with a passion for fashion but i come from a lower income family so i cant really afford much of anything lol. But i figured if i learn how to sew/alter things i can really get the looks that i like and even venture far enough to create my own original pieces.
I'm not really super-new to Threadbanger, but an introduction is an introduction. :p

Why DIY: I don't like the idea of having the same clothes as someone else.
Favorite DIY piece so far: I have too many favorites. I guess my ruched green plaid skirt is my favorite since I wear it pretty often.
Favorite DIY Tip: Remember that anything in the world can be turned into anything else.
Other Random Tidbits: I don't really take inspiration from any one thing in particular. I mostly just make what I want to wear or show off.

Why DIY: Can't ever find anything cool enough, also tired of all these shirts made for the hXc(hardcore) kids.

Livyli
08-06-2009, 12:52 AM
Name:Olivia but most ppl call me Livy or Ollie
Age: 20
How long you've been sewing: Well I started a garment construction class about 2 months ago but I did sewing as a subject in school a couple years back.
Why DIY: I am frustrated with the state of clothing prices in my country (its utterly ridiculous especially for a uni student who is not working!) and I felt that if I could make my own clothes I'd save money as well as get all the really cool trends that I like actually fitting me properly. I also always loved making things from since I was pretty young so this is a way to kill two birds with one stone I guess!
Other Random Tidbits: I LOVE PURPLE! I love to bake and cook and I suppose that's another way for me to use little old imagination lol. I sing and I play the piano [not necessarily at the same time :)] I love to read and I smile at everything. I also love music and movies and can never pass up an opportunity to listen or watch one!
Well I look forward to all the great experiences of this site and hearing and seeing what all you guys make!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Name(s): Fireball or Amanda
Age: 22
Etsy/Website: You mean there are other corners of the interwebs? No seriously I don't have time for maintaining a website.
How long you've been sewing: Since I was about 7 years old. My mom used to teach me all kinds of stuff and I've had the same sewing machine since I was 12.
Why DIY:
Because I need something to do to take my mind off of everything else in my life, like school and work...
It all started when I wanted to get a couple of vintage style dresses. I looked online for some reproduction pieces and got sticker shock. I found some vintage patterns still in print and went to town. I've been hardcore DIYing ever since.
Favorite DIY piece so far: A vintage reproduction 1947 style cap sleeve dress in cobalt blue satin. It's breathtaking, and it's the piece that got me hooked.
Favorite DIY Tip: Be patient. Don't rush through your project.
Other Random Tidbits: I work 40 hours a week at a boring desk job, and I go to school at nights. I'm studing Communications. With all that on my plate, I still somehow find time to maintain friendships, a love life, exercise, and DIY. My life is a bit chaotic, but I really wouldn't have it any other way. I play competitive paintball. I love beer and ouzo. I'm Greek. I love photography. I have a terrible temper. I'm stubborn. I have a really thick southern accent. I listen to metal, industrial, and other random songs here and there.
Alright, that's all I've got.

How long you've been sewing: I had to Embroider in school when I was like seven. Whe I was about twelve I sewed some thing by hand like shorts made out of jeans and sock animals. I just got a sewing machine.
Why DIY:
Because I don't like spending money and am bored of shirts that say fricken hollister of Ambercrombie on them.
Favorite DIY piece so far: Right now I'm making an owl Jumper like this one and it's gonna be soo cool. Other than that all I've made is a deformed Penguin Pillow and some Sock animals(which are pretty amazingly cute)
Favorite DIY Tip: I like tutorial, but if there something I like without one I'll find a way to make it. I'm pretty good at looking at things then figuering out how to make them.:)
Other Random Tidbits: I love music like the Killers, Weezer, The Fratellis, Modest Mouse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The ting tings, Flight of the Conchords, Hot Hot Heat, Franz Ferdinand, Blink 182, Ok Go, Arctic Monkeys, And The Strokes. Also I love candy, cake, ice cream, cookies, and suger in general.

Name: Dalia
Age: 19
Etsy Website: Don't have one, but I have twitter (Dalia von Wegen) and Tumblr (ghostoffashion.tumblr.com)
How long have you been sewing: I used to sew a lot when I was very young but somehow I stopped. This week I started again.
Favourite DYI piece so far: Yesterday I made a dress out of an large button up shirt.
Favourite DYI tip: There's a lamp on your sewing machine, don't forget to use it (I totally made that up, but I really always forget to use it)
Other random tidbits:I play the guitar. I am becoming an actress. I'm a party-girl, I love to go to concerts (recently saw Owen Pallett again, I died), I am NOT a good poster. I don't really drink alcohol that much, but I smoke way to much! I also bite my sister a lot. I love my sister a lot. I never clean up my room. I broke up uni (is that even english? Haha).
You have to know that sometimes I say really stupid things, just ignore them. I am from Austria. That is a tiny tiny country in the middle of europe, directly under germany (we too speak german). I like to pretend like nobody knows it, because, well, it's small.
Bohemia
08-16-2009, 03:43 PM
I missed this thread at first but i'm still fairly new so I'm going to fill this out now :)
Name(s): Bohemia Skye, or Boz for short
Age: almost 21
Etsy/Website: My blog is here (http://bohemiaskye.wordpress.com/) and my shop is here (http://bohemiaskye.misi.co.uk)
How long you've been sewing: By hand since school. I got my first machine when i was about sixteen but i'd used one in school for about three years before that.
Why DIY:
I took fine art at college but my parents urged me to do something more practical after that. So when I started uni I picked a course that made art practical. Its all about making, different processes and techniques, and business. I've never wanted to be anything other than creative. Making things is the best rush. When I take on commissions I have trouble letting them go because seeing something you've made yourself from scratch is a really empowering feeling.
Favorite DIY piece so far: My Octomopus :D It took me absolutely ages to complete. Check it out here (http://bohemiaskye.wordpress.com/2009/07/02/octomopus/)
Favorite DIY Tip: Pinning and basting are important steps. If you mess up here it makes it much easier to pull it apart and try again.
Other Random Tidbits: Other than being creative I enjoy hanging out with friends, live action role play and table top role playing games, but i'd say that creating is my main passion in life, its a job (or it will be once I've completed my course) and a hobby all at once.

Name(s): Courtney, Court
Age: 14
Etsy/Website: My blog is www.lockandkeydesigns.blogspot.com. I don't have an Etsy :/
How long you've been sewing: A while. Coming up on 3 years, but I've always been creative. I've written and made things for as long as I can remember.
Why DIY: It's a great feeling to wear something you made yourself and have people go "You MADE that? WOW". Also, necessity. No stores carry the clothes I like.
Favorite DIY piece so far: My mini-top hat. I've posted it here.
Favorite DIY Tip: Go slow, take your time. Do research. Ask for help if you need it. Make mistakes.
Other Random Tidbits: Other than being creative I like to hang out with friends, write, watch movies, read, and listen to music.
Name(s): Asia
Age: 21
Etsy/Website: No etsy for me at the moment!
How long you've been sewing: A few months. I made an A-line skirt with my mom's sewing machine and really enjoyed it.
Why DIY:
I'm an ENFJ personality type, which means I love creative endeavors and working with my hands. I just love to learn new things and put them to work.
I'm pretty hard to please, so I started DIYing home decor about a year or so ago. I live in an area where everyone has that same Old Lady style decor and it just wasn't me, so I did my own thing. No one told me it was so addicting! I love to make things for myself and inject my personality into my home.
Favorite DIY piece so far: When I was first learning to crochet in the round, I went a bit...overboard. I had these little circles in all these different colors and I had already given out so many of them as coasters. So, I stitched them all together and made a really cute skirt. I always get compliments when I wear it out, even though it's felted to hell now.
Favorite DIY Tip: It's okay if things aren't perfect the first time! We all have to start somewhere and Nana will love every discombobulated scarf or pot holder you give her.
Other Random Tidbits:
I'm getting married in October of next year and 90% of my wedding is DIY. I'm so excited that my fiance (also a pretty crafty guy, when he puts his mind to it) and I can really make such a special day truly ours and make everything meaningful.

Hmmm, I missed this one and have been rudely posting replies, so with apologies, here goes...
Name: MtbGrrli
Age: hmm old
Etsy/Website: nope
How long you've been sewing:
Since I was 7 or 8 (by hand). My mother is pretty old-school and made us learn the needlecrafts when we were all quite young. In grades 7 and 8, we had Home Ec and that's when I first used the machine. My sewing machine was my first big purchase and I recently sold my old machine (janome) and bought a new machine (brother) and a serger (singer).
Why DIY:
Mostly because I love to figure out how things are made.
I need to be doing something with my hands all the time, if I don't, I get very bored and frustrated. As a result, I've dabbled in everything and I always have a few projects on the go, in different media.
I love the thrift shops, and the feeling of making something new and unique out of something old. And mostly I love being able to make something, and pull off wearing it (that's style, babies)
Favourite DIY piece so far: A Jack Sparrow costume I made for my son, it kicks ass.
Favourite DIY Tip: If it's on sale, buy it and figure out its use later. Speed Sew - buy it, love it, use it (it will glue anything fabric to anything fabric)
Other Random Tidbits:
I loooovve fabric, paper and wool. I spin and dye my own wool, love to do dye with koolaid cos it smells so good after and it's pretty much idiot-proof. One quarter of my basement is my workroom - from darkroom to sewing room to graphics to painting to papercrafts to knitting/spinning. I have a LOT of stuff, and i love it alllll.
And I have a very tolerant spouse. And a couple of boys, a dog, a cat, two rats and a hamster (and whatever other critters said boys bring home).

Name(s): Maddie Hatter, Proph
Age: 24
Etsy/Website: Nope.
How long you've been sewing: A while, I didn't really start taking it seriously until about five or six years ago.
Why DIY: I've got a weird body shape so clothing shopping was always depressing. I don't like being depressed so I decided to take things into my own hands. I also don't like throwing things away so I try to take it apart and work with what's left before I give it the boot from bottle caps to gears. I also cosplay which can be a DIY challenge in itself!
Favorite DIY piece so far: My sleeveless Iron Man hoodie I made out of a teeshirt. It was easy and fun and I just love wearing it.
Favorite DIY Tip: Don't throw away teeshirt sleeves! They make great pockets!
Other Random Tidbits: I'm a Asian Ball Jointed Doll collector; a lot of my DIY projects as of late have been for them. I'm a huge geek. I love video games. I'm a Cirque du Soleil addict and I'm obsessed with the :3 face which I also tend to abuse on forums. The more blinding and neon a color is the more I love it.
My current project is a crocheted fish hat and a squid hat with those faces.

Name(s): My real name is rather Scandanavian in nature, but one time, a friend forgot it and called me Felicia. So that's what I go by on the interweb.
Age: Too young to take over, too old to ignore.
How long you've been sewing: Uhm... sewing, hm... probably about a year and a half, by now, but I've been trying to make clothes for my dolls and stuff since I was a little kid. I used a stapler.
Why DIY: Every day and in every way, I want to be more myself, more unique. I feel kind of weird buying clothes from higher-end stores, even if it's completely awesome, because I know someone somewhere else is wearing the same thing. Whether I make something that's in style or out, I made it, and that means only I have something like it.
Favorite DIY piece so far: A dress I made from five t-shirts. I'll post pictures soon, but it's amazing. The main shirt says, in many colors "THE SHOW MUST GO ON", and has a brightly colored collar and a ruffled skirt.
Favorite DIY Tip: "At all times, in all situations, be more like Prince" -Chris Bucholz of Cracked.com (I know, not really a DIY tip, but hey, it could apply! ...right?)
Other Random Tidbits:
1.)I really, really, really want to learn how to make a Pollera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollera) (minus pompom). Ever since I went to Costa Rica, and the elementary school performances always had little girls wearing these beautiful dresses, I wanted one. If someone knows where I can get a pattern, I will love you for all time and send you cookies on your birthday.
2.) I love theatre. It's my life. All of my best friends are actors, and it's what I want to spend the rest of my days doing.
gothictany
09-10-2009, 07:41 PM
The Polleras are Latin culture but the ones you want have that one pompom in the front. Hence Panama dress LOL. Jk
Anyway, I've two of these dresses before and they are difficult at all
but you said you've been sewing for about a year?... I think you can
do it.
The skirt alone needs about 14 yards of fabric or more.
There is tons of layering if your going to dance in it:)
Good luck hun.

Name(s) Michelle I guess...I'm awkward I'm called by my middle name as opposed to my first.
Age 18
How long have you been sewing: Since I was little really, all of those hand sewing projects making a picture on a piece of coarse fabric? Everyone remember those?
Why DIY Well, because I hoard a lot of things and I still have clothes lying around that don't fit I decide to revamp them. Everything I buy from stores either comes from sales/charity shops or second hand stores. I make a lot of jewellery because it's easy and I'm a terrible seamstress.
Favourite DIY piece so far: All of the jewellery I've made, ipod case, raggie dolls, a pair of shorts...I think that's it really.
Favourite DIY tip (s)
1) Sometimes, all you have is fabric glue. Make friends with it.
2) You can make anything out of anything.
3) Elastic.
4) Collect buttons.
Other random tidbits
I absolutely ADORE charity shops I recently bought a thick woven coat for £7 (About $11/12 I think?) which has served me well on camping trips. I also love coattails, they look really good as part of a steampunk or lolita outfit and are brilliant if you want to keep warm.
I collect patches and brooches.

But this is so KEWL all the neat goodies you can make. Hopefully I can do some outfits for my dolls... then I'll need to get pix.

Age: A quarter (not pound...25)
Etsy/Website: nothing related to DIY
How long you've been sewing: I just started this year, and now I can't stop...
Why DIY: because it keeps me busy in my spare tima, and my head is working all day long...even when I'm asleep, thinking of new projects.
Favorite DIY piece so far: I love a tool belt that I made for my 2-year-old son. He's so happy with it...he thinks he's Bob the Builder now.
Favorite DIY Tip: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It aslo helps activating you own creativity.
Other Random Tidbits: I'm still learning in this DIY world, but I aslo want to focus on other things I love, like my family, my job (teacher) and sports, specially windsurfing. I put my heart in everything I do.

Why DIY?: Because i got sick and tired of finding things i really like but can't afford. Plus i feel certain things like a decent pair of jeans shouldn't cost $180 just because of the brand.
How long have you been sewing?: I have been hand sewing ever since i was little (mom taught me) but it wasn't on big serious pieces. just mostly on rips or tears. and i dont know how to use a sewing machine at all >_>
Favourite DIY piece: my cute kick ass mini top hat. hope to show you guys it soon
Favourite DIY Tip: Uh, don't question yourself too much.
Random: ummm i a newbie. Swish swish clang clang.

Age: 30 (soon to be 31...OMG)
Etsy/Website: love to search on it and brownse but dont own one...yet! I have a myspace find me here (myspace.com/blooderhood)
How long you've been sewing: By hand -- since mom showed me at around 8 or 9....just started with a sewing machine...yeah...took me a while...
Why DIY: I thought I would never be able to sew like the pro's (stupid i know) but then while surfing the wed I ran into the wall that is Treadbanger.com on you tube (by mistake). And became hooked. so I began with t shirt surgeries and started to mend some clothing insted of getting rid of them again. then I saw this material I had hidden for the longest time and my daughter asked for an apron so I started to sew on by hand but my mom saw me and told me to borrow her machine to make it. so I did and now she wears her apron proudly at school. Then I made my blue jean purse to recycle some jeans that were so badly holed that they couldnt be used as pants anymore. now I am helping my daughter's girl scout troop to make pillows for the homeless with scraps and savaged clothing.
Favorite DIY piece so far: My purse -- mom tells everyone. No matter where I go with her she asks me to not leave it in the car and has told all her friends about it proudly. She even cried when I showed it to her the first time I used it after it was done.:p
Favorite DIY Tip: when you see something used dont look at it as what it really is...see it by what it could possibly be...with a little diy help!
Other Random Tidbits:I love watching movies reading books and listening to all kinds of music. Also I love to write. poetry and short stories. I helped a friend while he was writing a movie script a year ago and I love cooking but I hate cleaning and hand washing my clothes, but no one will take care of my things like I do (kindda like taking care of my kids).
I just love to sit and surf the net when I have the time, and love to watch my children grow (tears me up).

Name(s): Geneva
Age: 18
Etsy/Website: I don't have one yet, maybe one day.
How long you've been sewing: About 4 years.
Why DIY: That is a good question. I like making stuff. I don't really know why. I try to be environmentally minded, but I don't think that is 100% of the reason. It is something I like to do...so I do it. Not the best reason ever, but at least it is truthful.
Favorite DIY piece so far: My dining chair cushions. They were cheap to make (Thrift Store fabric, and murdered pillows), turned out to be pretty, and they are comfy.
Favorite DIY Tip: Measure twice, cut once. Some people are able to just eyeball it and go. I am not that talented. If I don't measure twice, I get something rather oblong. Which would be great if I intended it to be that way.
Other Random Tidbits: I love to knit. I've taught myself how to knit, and I am quite proud of that fact. I cosplay, but not as often as I would like. From that you can deduct that I watch anime. I play Magic:The Gathering, but I am not good at it. I value kindness, and try to be as nice as possible. And I <3 NPR.

How long you've been sewing: *snort*... uhhh since first grade? I think? I made pin cushions for my mom, who was a seamstress/tailor. I'm up to corsets now ;)
Why DIY: It's in my blood! I'm never 100% satisfied with things I see in stores and often can't afford them or want to make too many mods to make it worth while. Plus it means whatever you do is going to be totally unique.
Favorite DIY piece so far: A dress I made for a wedding this spring... Here! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/87905607@N00/3526504203/in/set-72157604902660477/) I wanted black and white to offset a hot pair of shoes I had, but couldn't find anything decent looking in the stores... so I made one. I created new curse words while I sewed the bodice, but it was worth it. ;)
Favorite DIY Tip: Everything can be turned into something.

How long you've been sewing: Since University - I went to school for Costume
Design and Theatre Production so sewing class was mandatory.
Why DIY: I love to re-make pieces, so they are unique. I also get a high when people randomly ask me where I got something I am wearing and I get to say "I made it!" Also, sometimes I am looking for something specific and cannot find it anywhere, so the only option is to DIY.
Favorite DIY piece so far: A necklace I made from feathers and an old brooch.

Etsy/Website: www.amyjanephotography.deviantart.com (http://www.amyjanephotography.deviantart.com) for my photos, my DIY stuff is usually personal to me and although i like it, it generally isnt fit for humanoids to look at. (:
How long you've been sewing: err..since i was..7 we had to make some tapestry thing in year two as a joint progect thing. :D
Why DIY: because its fun, you get something unique out of it, and people sometimes stop you and ask where you got that cute shirt/bag/purse/etc. and you can tell them you made it and it makes you feel awesome about yourself.
Favorite DIY piece so far: my flowery bunny plushie i made from some fabirc out of a remmnant bin and cotton wool. its going to be reworked soon, so hopefully you might see a picture of it. :)
Favorite DIY Tip: always allow seam allowance! aand charity shops/remmnant bins are your best friends. :D
Other Random Tidbits: i have an extremely wide taste in music, im a scout and cubscout leader, i always handsew everything because the only thing resembling a sewing machine in my house is basically a toy, i am currently in love with FruitFlakes made by the company FruitBowl aand my favourite colour is pink. :D

Etsy/Website: No Etsy yet, but you can certainly look forward to seeing my work put up somewhere on the web in future. College apps and such... ugh..
How long you've been sewing: 3rd grade. My teacher had us make pillows for no reason whatsoever. Those are the teachers that need to be kept around.
Why DIY: It takes blood, sweat, and tears to create. It takes ideas, ideals, and energy, and makes the intangible, the invisible, real.
Plus I can throw it in my friend's faces when I have something awesome and original.
Favorite DIY piece so far: I designed an entire set of clothing for my last play for my school. I created the entire line of clothes, a cute collection of red and black plaid clothing. Beautiful. Pics will be up soon, I promise.
Favorite DIY Tip: When making something for the stage, don't be lazy. Make it good enough to wear outside in the real world.
Other Random Tidbits: I am and have been costume director of my theatre for the last 4 years. Love it. I have 3 sewing machines for some reason.... My dog is the happiest thing on the planet. I love her:D
I survived Hurricane Katrina, and have participated in theatre for... forever really.

Fav DIY piece so far:Definately the summer halter shirred dress Corrine made. It was the first thing I made off a TB episode.
Fav DIY tip:Don't panic....If we never made mistakes, we wouldn't learn anything.
Other tid bits:I am addicted to sewing lol. I want to make my own wedding dress one day and I love the fact that I am learning to make my own clothes for me and my family & friends to wear. Thanks to TB and all those people with their ideas and tips Hai! You rocket!:p

How long you've been sewing: Haven't started sewing yet. I'm very new to this.
Why DIY: I like doing things for myself. I feel much more accomplished when I make something, then when I find it in a store. Also, money... it is a lot cheaper to make things, then go out and buy exactly what you're looking for.
Favorite DIY piece so far: I'm currently knitting my first scarf and I love it.
Favorite DIY Tip: As I said before, I'm very new to the DIY way of life. Anything that I could say, I'm sure all of you already know.
Other Random Tidbits: I have a 9 month old son (and a 25 year old husband, lol). I graduated with a BA in philosophy and never plan to use it. I'm going to be reupholstering my dining room chairs soon (hope that goes well!). I love to learn new things... especially when I get to work for with my hands.

Age: 22
Etsy/Website: I have a dead blog, you don't want a link to that.
How long you've been sewing: I did some cross-stitching as a child. Completely forgot how to do it. Other than some sloppy mending jobs, I'm fresh meat in the sewing department.
Why DIY: It's sort of a revival mission. People just don't know how to be self-sufficient anymore. I'd just like to learn how to make everything. Plus, I'm from Appalachia, and I'd like to continue the great tradition of handicrafts. There's a huge sense of pride attached to that around here, it's one of the few positive things that's noted about the region. And it couldn't hurt to milk that aspect if I get good enough to be able to market my creations, haha. But let's not get too ahead of myself...
Not to mention, it would be nice to no longer be confined to only what's available on clothing racks. To be able to make whatever is really empowering.
Favorite DIY piece so far: In sixth grade we had an assignment where we had to essentially create an entire country and culture. One of the things I was in charge of was making the traditional dress-- it was awesome.
Favorite DIY Tip: Um.
Other Random Tidbits: Nah, I'm good.

How long you've been sewing: started in 8th grade, stopped then just picked it back up this year
Why DIY: I use to draw and paint a lot then stopped when I got out of school. A few years ago I started going to cons and wanted to start making my own costumes. Starting to get use to the sewing machine (I own a Singer) and I'm working on tops and skirts...hoping to move on to make costumes, my own clothing and just have fun and being creative.
My big insperations are my friend Emily (http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/m10017/) and Yaya Han (http://www.angelicstar.net/) and Project Runway is one of my favorite shows to watch
Favorite DIY piece so far: Well it has to be my simple rainbow top, it came out so cute! I think I have an eye for colors and patterns.
Other Random Tidbits: I work, hang around with my friends and family, going to Boston to see my boyfriend, and spoil my dogs.

heyy, I've been lurking this place for a while and finally joined. Hi.
Name(s): Lily Jamis, or one of the two
Age: 15 (for a couple more weeks)
Etsy/website: None yet, soon.
How long have you been sewing?: I did some when I was younger and just started up again... well, trying to start again.
Why DIY?: Because I hate brand names and spending money on crap.
Favorite DIY peice so far?: Either my purple crocheted beanie/beret or my modified Chrismas Dino sweater.
Random: I'm almost done with high school, homeschooled, Christian, been called a nerd, play 6 instruments, write/record/perform songs, skateboard a little, draw, and stuff like that.
I'm kind of new to diy because I don't really have any help. None of my friends even want to help me make a body form. I learned to sew on a machine a while back but I don't know what I'm doing to make mine not work.
So, if I had unlimited resources, I probably would have a full closet of stuff I've made, but I don't. =p

Why DIY?: Because instead of being wasteful, I can change the clothes I have now that I don't like into something I do like. Also my nana was a tailor and I would like to discover the secret of the ridiculously comfortable robe she made me when I was little.
Favorite DIY peice so far?: None yet...

How long have you been sewing: Since I was 7 or 8 I think. I hand sewed Barbie clothes and beds my parents wouldn't get for me. Later I sewed on a machine in HS until I broke off the crappy plastic thread spool holder and couldn't fix it. Then hiatus until I got inspired by an online friend who's 4 year old daughter sews on a machine and I figured I could really handle it.
Why DIY: I get so much more satisfaction out of sewing. Just to sew is therapy for me. I don't even need to make things for a particular person, I just want to sit in front of the machine and DO something.
Favorite DIY piece so far: I'd have to say my son's snail costume for Halloween this year was pretty cool. It took me a while to work out how to do it, and if I had to do it again, I would modify quite a few things. I had even taken nice tutorial photos for it to post, but as I got a virus on my SD card from work, I had to delete everything when I reformatted. Sad. It's still a cool costume though, just no tutorial.
Favorite DIY Tip: Stop staring at it, experiment. Try things. The best way to get better at sewing is to just keep doing it. Also, there is a HUGE amount of inspiration online for things to do (how I found threadbanger) - check out oneprettything.com for some basic ideas and great links.

How long have you been sewing?: I started in 7th grade for a class and on and off since then. Mostly fixing shirts and stuff for my family. I wanna start making other things too.
Random: I ... love art. (my number one favorite class) I want to major in psychology. I love learning. I love music and reading and writing. I am super shy in real life, but I'm more open here on the interwebs. Yeah. OH! and i love cheese cake. <3

How long have you been sewing?: 5 days. Well, someone attempted to teach me when I was VERY little, then I did a GCSE (Class - 9th gradeish) in Home Economics and have now finally bought my first sewing machine! Also just being taught to knit!
Favorite DIY piece so far: My Netbook case. It was once an old sweatshirt but now keeps my netbook safe and cozy.
Favorite DIY Tip: Use parcel string whenever you can when wrapping presents. Somehow it adds a bit of class to all gifts!
Random: Computer graduate and Tea activist. Likes Sushi and Laughing but dislikes local radio and receptionists.

Why DIY? I have a need to create! It started out as necessity and now it is addiction. I am tall and (used to be very thin)- okay well I AM still tall. I just like different stuff- I haven't ever really fit in and haven't really allowed myself to have my own style till now. I want others to wear what I do I just don't want wear what they are wearing nor do I want the expense of changing my style when the colors do!
How long have I been sewing? Since I was 18 and made my own maternity clothes. My first garment was a barbie doll dress made from toilet paper when I was 6- I used to get into trouble for using the hair brush on the dolls (probably cuz I lost it)
My favorite DIY peice? It is a close call between the spats that brought me here to threadbanger (that go with a jumper I made- all from garage sale fabric (pic attached) and a upcycled pair of pants turned jacket (pic attached)
Random stuff: I talk alot- I still don't feel like I fit in (still trying to convince myself that it is okay to not fit). I homeschool my kids (total DIY if you ask me) and I teach on Wed. for the children's ministry. I also belong to the Dallas Bead Society and hope to one day be a member of the Threadbangers Guild on etsy.

How long you've been sewing: I learned how to use a sewing machine when I was six.
Why DIY:
My mom's side of the family doesn't have a lot of money, and I wanted to look cool.
Favorite DIY piece so far: This awesome harness for my dog similar to the EasyWalk harness, but designed so it wouldn't dig into my dogs armpits, with a padded chest area and pulling D rings so he can pull the trash out on a sled.
Favorite DIY Tip: When DIYing for dogs, never follow the pattern if it only gives the chest measurment for size. VERY important If you have a male dog.
Other Random Tidbits: Dog training has become an autistic "special interest" of mine. As far as special interests go, its pretty useful.
Also I used to be on here as Birdystar but someone hacked into the email account I used to sign up. If a Mod could delete that account that would be nice.

Name(s): Rachyl aka Raeyn (the nickname my pagan mother has given me)
Age: 23
Etsy/Website: I just started setting it up yesterday, and I'll post once I have stuff in it.
How long you've been sewing: I've been sewing occasionally since I was a little one, but it never became a huge priority for me, until now.
Why DIY:
I've always enjoyed putting my own spin on things. I can't ever afford a new wardrobe, and I have hundreds of unused clothes lying around. It's time to get busy!
Other Stuff:
I always had an enormous range of crafts and projects of all different kinds that I would get into. It was hard for me to take hold on one particular thing, and finish it. I have never used a sewing machine, and now, I really wish I had one. Up until now I averaged one sewn craft a year...if that. I'm now getting the itch, and am tired of my lack of commitment to something I used to love doing, crafts. I've had a recent boost of motivation. Just evaluating my life and where it's come to, has made me realize that I've pushed almost every aspect of what made me happy, in terms of productivity and creativity, to the curb. For boring, mind-numbing jobs and awkward social situations that I've tried repeatedly to force, have caused me to lose sight of my passion.
Call it an epiphany if you will, but I finally feel like me again, and I'm here to help fuel the fire that's burning once again. Sorry if I've given this place a weird atmosphere, with the psychological mumbo-jumbo. It's just a big piece of me. :)
I hope that finally this time, I've found a community where I can feel at home. I have high hopes!
Nice to meet all of you!

Why DIY: I am very tall yet shaped like a pencil, most waistes dont fit me and shirts (most tank tops). I also have very great eye hand coordination
Favorite DIY piece so far: my cozy fleece sweater I made from scratch (the pattern took like forever!)
Other Random Tidbits: I love the look on peoples faces when they come up to me and say "OMG where did you get that shirt?" and I say "I made it myself, no other shirt like it!"

Hey guys, I'm new ( as the title says). I searched the forums everywhere for where to post this and had no clue , so my appologies if this is dumb..
Anyways I've followed threadbanger for a bit and have never done much with it.
Im trying to take a stab at sewing again its been about 3 or 4 years and I was never really good to begin with. I have a few no sewing projects I've completed but nows my attempt at sewing.
If anyone has any suggestions on where to start or where to look with getting back into sewing I'd love them.
Thanks
and now that I look harder I found where I should have posted this.. sorry again

How long you've been sewing: Used to be in fashion like 3 years ago and sewed but I'm just starting again
Why DIY:
I like anything unique, needed a hobby and have a whacked out body type. I'm tall and pretty curvy.
Other Random Tidbits: I used to be way more creative, motivated and dedicated to getting my own goals and projects accomplished I gave up on hobbies and Im really trying to get back into it. I tend to loose patience quickly and this is a big step towards doing something for myself by myself.

How long you've been sewing: I remember making clothes for my American Girl doll back in like 4th grade, so I guess since then. :)
Why DIY: So many reasons! 1st of all, mass-produced stuff sucks. Not only is it unoriginal, but corporations tend to not mind exploiting natural resources, people's labor... ect. I am not that political, but I do feel strongly that creating our own things takes the power back into our hands and connects us with our roots.
Favorite DIY Tip: getting fabric from thrifted clothing items is the best. cheap cheap cheap!
Other Random Tidbits: I chose the name omnisam because omni = "of all things" and I can never decide what kind of craft I like best. I think I spend more time learning new crafts than actually putting them to use.
I know how to:
Sew, embroider, knit, crochet, spin yarn, felt (a little bit), woodburn, screenprint, stencil..

(about my machine: my grandmother got me a Janome as a graduation present after i expressed an interest in maybe someday learning to sew. she taught me the basics and sent me forth to sew. it's seen more action in the last week then it has since i got it. for now, i call it "the Beast", not because it is a horrible monster, but because it is a challenge to be conquered. i hope someday it can be tamed and become a loyal ally.)
Why DIY: why not? :] DIY is the very essence of punk, and having stuff no one else can lay claim to is way more awesome (and inexpsensive!) than buying all your gear from hot topic :D
Favorite DIY piece so far: the goth-y teddy bear i handsewed from t-shirt scraps. he's kinda falling apart in places, and since the scraps were oddly shaped he's got a humpback, but he's still here!
Favorite DIY Tip: um... don't get stabbed with pins when skinny-ing jeans :]
Other Random Tidbits: it's hard to find things that fit, since my figure is... toothpick-esque. but i love punk and rockabilly stuff, as well as cartoony monster-type plushies. after browsing threadbanger for a week (and finding that in that span my interest has not waned), i'm totally motivated to get going! :D i hope to someday be able to contribute to this site, and maybe even one day have an etsy! yep, i'm shootin' for the stars.

Heya...
Name(s): roflol/Terri
Age: 48... jeepers, I have kids older than most of y'all! 'Salright... Wii fit says I'm only 33. :]
Etsy/Website: None presently
How long you've been sewing: A while.
Why DIY: 'Cause I'm a cheapskate and figure I can replicate so many things for less nearly all the time using recycled materials. Besides, my line of work requires absolutely no imagination at all... so crafting and DIY fill that void. :D
Favorite DIY piece so far: I stayed up last night until 3:30 converting two shirts from crew neck to V-neck (first attempts). One turned out great (wore it today) so it's my favorite recently. The other shirt... not so much. Will have to work on it some more, as it was previously my favorite shirt (except for that dang crew neckline!).
Favorite DIY Tip: Use your ~*~ imagination ~*~ and be prepared to make substitutions.
Second Favorite Tip: Finish your project before you start another one, or your sewing machine will be buried and you'll wind up spend precious crafting time moving piles of "special" material and other junk from one horizontal surface in the sewing/utility room to another, only to have to move it again the next day to get into the freezer or use the washing machine. e_e

I was looking for one of these into threads. I love saying Hi to everyone
Name(s): The name on my ID is Terryann, but the world knows me as Milo or Kael
Age: 23
Etsy/Website: :( none yet, but I do have a Deviantart account http://lotsadsoul.deviantart.com
How long you've been sewing: at least 13 years but most likely more, recently like in the last 3 years it's really picked up
Why DIY:
Because the world holds little fashion wise that still appeals to me. I often take a lot of my inspiration from japan and I'm totally into the Gothic Lolita fashion scene but they have nothing in my size. That combined with the need for awesome costumes (total cosplayer) that not only fit but look good made me pick back up a needle. I haven't put it down since, why buy it when you can make it.:D
Favorite DIY piece so far: My bendaroo art, skateboard decks and the Sanosuke Sagara costume I made for my baby.
Favorite DIY Tip: There is no wrong way to DIY. you don't need to go to a big expensive fashion school to make big awesome fashions.
Other Random Tidbits: I love to make things for my friends, more than I like to make things for myself, Oh and I want to make a pair of bondage pants for my teddy bear.

Name(s): Mike or Mikeru
Age: 23
How long you've been sewing: ~1.08333 years
Why DIY: I was a semester away from finishing undergrad, realized that once I graduated and got a job doing what was once my main hobby all day for a living, I would need something new and different to fill the void, hence teaching myself to sew. I enjoy the engineering aspects of sewing and just like to create things. Plus, I think it's a useful and practical skill that even a straight guy like myself can benefit from.
Other Random Tidbits: My first sewing project (besides a pillow) was a vest, which I used for a cosplay outfit. I don't get as much satisfaction out of sewing for myself than for others. I mostly sew gifts for family as of late. I'd much rather sew women's garments, but until I find a girlfriend that will let me sew her clothing... I think I'm out of luck :P.

Hi all,
This is a pretty cool site! Seen tons of new ideas in just my first visit! I am from VA, a stay at home single crafty mom of two. I spend most of my time trying to keep my glitter away from the kids and get it onto my projects. I have an Etsy shop of Day of the Dead style arts, skulls, religious art and kitschy goodness. Will work for glitter!

Why DIY: I love doing stuff my way, I hate looking like a cookie cutter high school student blending in with all those white walls.

Favorite DIY Tip: Do it...over the top...go crazy. (My own quote)

Name:
Jo
Age:
25
Website:
http://www.printedfinger.co.uk Just having my website made, you can see it in construction, yay, so excited!
Why DIY?:
I am creative and short so just started off altering things to fit and modifying them to suit my style. Just started to make my own clothes. I just like things to be fitted and I love retro styles and vintage prints.
How long have you been sewing?:
Since I was 5 years old =) Started making felt clothes for my trolls.
Favourite DIY piece:
A dress that I added a white lace trim to. Feel really feminine in it.
Favourite DIY Tip:
When sewing, iron and pin and place your pins sideways so that you can sew over them. I hate ironing but it really helps with the seams.
Random:
Hello, I am new here! This site looks amazing, so excited to try some of the tutorials.

So I realized I never properly introduced myself here, so better late than never...
Name(s): Ludeykrus, aka 'Ludey'', aka...I've been called everything under the sun... You'll have to get to know me to know me real name ;-)
Age: I'm as old as you want me to be, darlin.
Etsy/Website: Eh, nothing up at the moment.
How long you've been sewing: I had to sew in Home Ec. in middle school, then I made an ex a sock monkey probably 8 years ago. Started seriously sewing probably 3 years ago, to make clothing that actually fit me.
Why DIY: As far as clothing goes, I originally started sewing to get clothing that fit the way I wanted. I used to be a tall, skinny bastard. An american small shirt fit like a bag on me. I'm not as small anymore, but I still appreciate well-tailored clothing.
I've always had a DIY attitude, however. I've always loved cooking, brewing beer, building cars and motorcycles, etc. I guess it all stems from my belief of 'If you want something done right, you've gotta do it yourself.'
Favorite DIY piece so far: Tailored pieces aside, a jacket I made a while back.
Favorite DIY Tip: Measure twice, cut once.
Other Random Tidbits: I love all types of music. I'm a huge nerd, though you would never guess it from the way I look. I love strong coffee, good spirits, and time spent with good friends. I enjoy going against the grain and busting stereotypes.

I really like that you're into hardcore DIY, such as the car building & beer brewing. (I'm actually going to brew beer for the first time over spring break, I'm very excited!) People like that just leave me in awe, because I'm like, you really did that yourself? Skills, man.
Additionally, it's pretty awesome that you're edging your way into the TB group quite smoothly.

Brewing beer is fun, especially if you like the stuff. I know you're fairly close to the grain states, are you 'extract brewing' or 'full grain brewing'?

Alright, maybe I too should write one of these. I copy the one in the first post, makes it a little easier:
Name(s): My parents call me Mahlin, my friends call me Zerk, and the internet calls me a myriad different names.
Age: Late teens and not believeing in writing your my on the internet.
Etsy/Website: http://vinterprinsessa.deviantart.com/ I am gonna make an Etsy page for mini hats and maybe the occassional piece of clothing once I don't have all this ridiculous schoolwork (senior year! Arrgh!) and have thought up a name.
How long you've been sewing: If making ugly clothes for my barbie dolls count; since I was 5 or 6. If sewing as a serious hobby; For around 2 years.
Why DIY: I was always rather displeased with clothes that could be bought. There was always something that needed chaning. Most of the time, it was a lot. And the clothes I could buy never really felt like my style any way. And since I live in Sweden, alternative fashion costs a LOT, and ordering from the internet was never something my parents liked me doing. DIY allowed me to create clothes that looked just the way I wanted them to look.
Also, I try to put an element of art into the outfits I make. Because if he clothes you wear are art you're like a walking gallery. And I love that. Showing my art to the world by simply wearing it.
Favorite DIY piece so far: My lace bustle skirt because it looks so elegant and neovictorian while still being very versatile and comfy. Or the Lebenschirm, perhaps? It's a great piece of art, but not very practical for wearing.
Favorite DIY Tip: Research the kind of garment you want to make propely, before you make it.
Other Random Tidbits: ... I like cats and big, noisy, grey factories and industrial decay. I listen to lots of different kinds of music, and aside from sewing, I also like to paint, write and direct the occassional short film.
I collect teacups, and my favorite movie is The Lion King.
