yes yes...Fimo....Sculpey...the other one...Premo???

What do you think of making jewelry out of this and selling? I mean its pretty common these days and damn some people are good. I just bought a small bulk of sculpey and I'm wanting to make jewelry (which is where my other site comes into it) but do you think its too cliché?
If you don't know what I mean you're best fo going to Deviantart (http://www.deviantart.com) and searching clay or polymer clay jewelry

I will probably make some soon and post it up here to show all RARRR!

i think you could only sell it if u did it really well and seriously knew what u were doing. but i think the idea is awesome for just making stuff as small gifts or just for yourself. i mean ive definetly made my own sculpey clay jewelry b4 but its only amature cause i don't practice or anything :D but yea create away!

some spray sealent could give it some gloss which looks more pro, as well keeping all the paint on it

I've been looking at gloss but I'm not sure wether to buy it to use on the sculpey after painting it....I seen the gloss for painters on canvas and they also do a spray...or I could just man up and purchase the sculpey gloss :D

Oh, Fimo...I spent so much of my youth molding you. le sigh.

I'd say if you're into it give it a shot at selling it. What's the worst that can happen? You don't sell anything and have a bunch of jewelry you made yerself to keep all to yerself. Win/win for you!

I would, however, suggest maybe making actual sculptures and playing around with that instead of jewelry. If only my fingers weren't craving crochet I might attempt it myself.

yeah I will need some practice before getting into selling...I made an apple....looked a bit like a tooth though initially lol

LOL!

Yeah I'd practice on sculptures first. Good idea. ^^

I miss Fimo.. My grandmother and I used to mold it and make earrings to sell at church. So fun. Good times right there.... then she stopped taking her medication. We don't speak anymore.

harsh but who wants to be on meds all their life??

haha fimo used to be my nickname then we discovered fimo in tech once lol
I just did some tetris blocks and apple, I've painted the second coat today but I think the paint is a bit crappy...only paid £5 for it but its water based acrylics! WHYYY! IF I WANTED WATER BASED I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT WATERCOLOURS OR POSTER PAINT!

need gloss then I'll post them up on that new....board thing

Well, she's Bi-polar so when she doesn't take her medication she's a completely different person... not a good thing. When she's on them, she's human.

Aww I'm sorry!!

I don't think it would be cliche, and you could definitely sell some!

I don't know what you're making with Fimo, but I know some of my favorite polymer clay pieces are cute necklaces and accessories that are mini foods like doughnuts, tins with cookies on them, ice cream sandwiches and things like that.

I think that the molding is only half the battle, though. In my opinion, it's really the details. Some pieces can come to life with a glaze, some look just fine flat. Doing something like wearing protective gloves or smoothing away all your finger prints (if you don't paint after shaping) or deciding to use objects around the house for texturing (such as maybe your apple stem or the leaf if there was one?) really make a polymer clay piece stand out. n.n;

Post pictures?

polymer clay is the most fun to use for jewelry. i made earrings, beads, buttons, and even attach the clay to other things such as bookends, pens and lighswitch covers... anything that won't MELT in the oven. gold or silver flake is really cool to use with the clay as well. Also, for a little bit of sheen, you can put a thin coat of clear nailpolish.

hm that sounds great guys, you should post some images too teehee
detail is hard for someone who just started, I expecially jealous of those who just have natural talent in art straight away touching anything...I'm a gradual type lol
gonna go out and claim some gloss....nail polish sounds good but I'd get addicted to much to the smell.....
I love the food ideas everyone is doing now but I try not to be cliché but I might do it anyway just to get some experience going...I want to make some retro stuff or jus cute lil things
I even thought about the old clichéd snes pad...

p.s cliché is like my most used word hahaha

I have a picture of something I made if you follow the link in my sig-- It didn't turn out quite the way I wanted it, but it was my first time working with colored fimo, as opposed to white fimo that I had painted. I'll be getting back to work after my move and see what I can't make!

When I want to find inspiring pictures, I search for stuff people have done on etsy::

http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_type=tag_title&search_query=polymer%20clay

Here's a link for a search of polymer clay

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=22657

And here's one for an artist who makes cute and sometimes retro type polymer clay things! <3 I think you should make a little pendant that's a bread loaf, like your icon!

I think that its not the medium but what you do with the medium. There are many artists that create with polymer clay and you would never in a million years know that it was polymer clay. The idea is to find your unique style and then no one will think it looks like what everyone else is doing. Have fun!

"Sculpey" works well on just about anything! =]

Polymer clay is becoming INCREDIBLY popular - but it's not at all cliche. It's cute and alot of the ideas are original, all artists are different and even if they have the same subject they interpret it differently!

With sculpey, I suggest making basic things first before you move on and plan on selling anything. :\ It seems like alot of DA-Polymer artists like to hoarde their secrets and techniques XD; But I know that there's some tutorials you can find to make basic things like little octopus' and panda charms, lollipops, cupcakes, etc.

For gloss I would just go to your local art store and look for a regular gloss medium from your art store intended for crafts like these. I know Sculpey sells it as well, although it's very expensive. I used a different gloss medium that my teacher had once in seventh grade, and it peeled off really easily - so make sure you buy one that STAYS glossy and not sticky/peely. Water-proof would be good too.

here's a [ good website (http://www.jaedworks.com/clayspot/index.html) ] for extra info, like how to sand and such your clay
