basically, i took two shirts, for the red piggly wiggly one, i cut off the back and the right arm. for the red shirt, i cut of the front and left arm.

Then i flipped both halves inside out and hand sewed it like that to give it that ruffly stitch look when worn rightside out.

I actually like this alot, i think it looks cool, and am probably gonna make a couple more like this.

what your thoughts?

Show us the back! :D I like the idea. Any thoughts on experimenting with the different areas you splice together? The right arm (left side of the screen) makes me think it would look cool if you did like the whole neck, shoulder, and arm in the other shirt while doing the same on the back on the opposite side.

the back is just plain white.

so, your idea would be like, a white shirt front and back, with black collar and arms

so like, a ringer except, have the color on the edge of the sleeves be the full sleeves?

Only, you know, my example looks like crap, so better :) You know, the splicing you're doing already.

ahh. I see, I actually like that quite a lot. I'll go over to the Salvation Army tomorrow to pick up some shirts and try this.

Hey, that looks cool! Maybe you should try to sew some other clothings, maybe with some print on it, onto the shirt. A little bit like this one:

Myself personally I dont like this. Theres a "Thrift Store" close to me that does stuff like this, and they have ruined it for me. A thrift store is supposed to have cheap clothes, not a vintage shirt cut up and put back together with another shirt and then priced about as much as a new Ambercrombie shirt.

theres a thrift store by you thats expensive? I can get a tshirt for like 3 bucks. when i went to chicago last summer, we went to a salvation army, and there were extremely nice shirts for 10 cents, probably because of all the homeless people though.

Heh, I don't think a store that takes old clothing and refashions it for more money is technically a thrift store. "Thrift" itself means cheap. Is that what they call themselves? Sounds more like somebodies effort to create a recycled vintage-hybrid fashion store. I could see how it's ruined it for you, though, if you don't like the style and think it's overpriced.

I used to live next to some GREAT thriftstores in Washington :) I once found a stack of old spiderman comics and a bunch of my wardrobe was from there at the time (that was years ago).

Sounds like you've got... Hipsters!

Yep, they are definetly "Hipsters"! What makes me mad about it is that its usually some cool shirts that are cut up. maybe its just the location, even our Salvation Army is a little overpriced. The only decent "Thrift Store" around that area is Buffalo Exchange. I found 3 band shirts for $8 a piece! Thats great considering the place across the street "Leopard Lounge" wants $30 for band shirts.

What annoys me are the shirts with the fake seams on the outside, fake slashes on the front, crazy-ass stitches all around and through random patches...

And how they're so prevalent.

But personally, I have a hell of a time shopping at thrift stores. I can find button shirts easy, but tshirts, pants, just plain impossible.

If you're having a hard time finding t-shirts and pants at thrift stores, Coffee, you should try sewing your own :) T-shirts aren't hard at all, and there are a lot of great-feeling fabrics for real cheap at Joanns and other fabric stores, especially if you watch for sales.

Pants are a bit harder and more expensive in terms of materials like denim or cordoroy, but if you practice you can learn to make pants that look and fit better on you than anything you'd find in the stores.

Perhaps, but, to be honest... I'm happy enough right now, and if I find something good, I can get it.

As far as fabric is concerned, I also have difficulty finding fabrics I'd be willing to wear. Seems like Bridal and Dressing fabrics are much more the norm now than anything else.

hey i like what you are doing with these shirts ... i live in nthn nsw australia and our little seaside town (very quaint and old) has an 'old and gold' festival each june ... i made a few things and sold them ... however the irony was the 2nd hand shirts i printed 'such profligacy' on (it was a whole town garage sale of recycled goods..) no one got it. so i didn't sell any... maybe they're (the shirts) are a bit ahead of their time ... lol
ps i just took some pics .. but i can't upload them as i don't understand what ' put the url of the pics ' means..? duh? ... anyone..?

if you use photobucket, after you upload it, underneath the thumbnail, it should have 3 boxes, if you click on the one that says URL, it copies it to your clipboard, then you just go to make a post, and click on the thing that takes to you to the 'put the url of the pic' and press Ctrl+P or right click paste.

that's why you should DIY it. then it only costs the 3 dollars you paid for the shirt and a little time. i also can't stand when vintage shops jack up the price.
