Mother's Day (in the USA) is May 10th! Get cracking! ;)

I made my mom a card. I'll post this and get my butt to the post office - Jsedai_77, I'm mailing your package too.

It's made of 2 pieces of recycled paper from Paperchase (bought on sale at Border's in one of their sale bins), part of a threadbare but still really pretty Barbie doll dress that I hacked down - I had bought a yard sale barbie and this was the dress that was on her. I also used some some white eyelet lace. I also used a dictionary definition of "Mother" and part of a fortune cookie fortune that reads, "Look around happiness is trying to catch you." I put it all together with glue-stick and machine stitching - pink and green thread, both a long straight stitch and a zig-zag stitch.

Am really proud of how it turned out. Ta-Daaah!

Thanks, all!

Donna, I decided against the fetus idea, but it was funny! :D

***EDIT:

OK! I figured out exactly why these cards sewed together so easily. The package says they are "Handmade from recycled cotton rag." The item I used was "A6 Deckle Edged Postcards," from PaperChase.

So, if anyone wants to know what kind of paper works well for sewing onto, the stuff from recycled cotton rag works super-duper well. As long as you keep your straight stitches long, and your zig-zag stitches wide, sewing thru this stuff is a breeze.

Yes, please - the idea isn't 100% original to me - I buy copies of "Cloth Paper Scissors" magazine, and I've seen similar "little dresses" ideas in either that or one of the other Stampington and Company mags!

Thanks all!

Just wanted to report my mom just called, SHE LOVED IT! :D

She said she was gonna go right over to the dollar store and find a frame that fits it, which is the ultimate compliment. Yep, my mom taught me to be a dollar store junkie! ;)

She wanted to know what book the "mother" came from, and I explained it was from a old dictionary that I got for free from the free book box in front of a bookstore in Hyde Park called Powell's. I think she was wicked impressed.

So, if anyone does this, post it! I hope it turns out to be a keepsake for your mom as well.

So happy!

:D Actually, it feels much better than when I was a kid.

I had a psycho-motor delay (to this day we don't know why?) and my hand-eye coordination was so horribly off that all of my kid drawings were scribbly and kind of ugly.

It's better than mom saying, "Awww! Ladyjane, that's a beautiful...um...what is it?!?"

I just gave up and lied and said they were abstracts when they were actually supposed to be flowers or mice or pretty girls in hats and dresses or whatever. HA!

She hung them on the fridge, anyway. Yay, Mom!

I'm just so happy that it all sorted out and I can actually DO what I see in my head. It just feels like a miracle sometimes.

Omg...Really? omg Lady jane..what an inspiring story! I think thats the reason why write so beautiffly cuz you can trully express yourself thru words!
And I'm so happy that your mom posted your drawings on the fridge anyway!! Props to MOM!! :D
