a couple of months ago, i bought two pairs of used sneakers - one's a pair of pink low-cuts and the other's navy blue high-tops. here's what i did to them.

after cleaning them, i sewed chinese buttons onto the pink pair and added a line of stitches with multi-coloured yarn. i ran out of ideas, actually, but they turned out kinda cute. on hindsight, the buttons should be sewed on closer to the heel.

i lined the insides of the high-tops with fabric from a 2nd hand blouse i acquired at a bazaar, with the help of fabric glue. fabric glue is fast becoming my favourite art supply!

anyway, i think there's alot that can still be done with the sneakers. there's something...missing...with the high-tops and i haven't figured out what else i can do with the exterior other than the strip of fabric i added to the back.

does anyone have any ideas? should i do something with the laces? or paint the trim red?

both of the shoes are adorable. I've always admired how people can find different ways to customize their sneakers.

awesome!! i love what you've done with them! especially the high tops, they look really good just the way they are! if you aren't happy with them, maybe some ribbon instead of laces or painting the trim around the sole purple or orange maybe to match the lining? either way i love em!!

thanks for the compliments! =)

i'll probably try painting the trim and see how it goes.

I adore the pink ones a lot. I think i like the juxtaposition between the casual style of converse mixed with the grace and elegance of the chinese buttons.
Lovely work

i think if you were going to do anything with the blue ones, i'd suggest maybe a button to keep the flaps down... like in blue... but idk, if you did that, you could never wear them up anymore...

i don't intend to wear them up. if you look carefully, i didn't leave holes for the three upper eyelets. of course that would limit the shoes' versatility, but i don't like high-tops.

i originally wanted to put a zip down the back which would make it easier for me to fold the tops down, but wasn't sure how that would work out considering i'd have the hand sew the zip onto the canvas and i don't trust my handiwork. don't think it's sturdy enough for shoes.

however, if anyone has ever put zippers on shoes, i'd love to know how and maybe experiment on the next pair of 2nd hand chucks i get my hands on. =)
