Yea, this could technically go into Gay Sanctuary, but I don't feel like digging for it.
Well, Iowa has joined Massechuets and Conneticut!
Wooo!
I'm just finding this out, since I just got on the computer for the first time today!

I know, what a random state.
But apparently according to that article, Iowa has led the states many times before in civil rights issues, such as legalizing interracial marriage, allowing women to practice law, allowing women to own property.
I'm waiting for New York to legalize it. That's where I wanna live.

I know! It's a huge accomplishment, seeing as Iowa is a Moral Majority stronghold. No other state has made such sweeping claims as to the unconstitutionality of the prevention of gay marriage.

That's amazing! =]
I hope more states accept gay marriage because I think it's really important to let people marry and be with the one they love for the rest of their life, regardless of sex, religion, race, etc.

Uh, I don't think that can work out.

Well, that'll be the point when we know that we no longer live in a strictly heteronormative society.

orlandodiychick
04-04-2009, 07:08 PM
Wait, that actually might work.

My friend Kitty is a girl, so if I were in a relationship with her, we'd be in a girl-girl relationship. But since she's trans, she COULD impregnate me.

So, we could have a shotgun wedding.

Not that that would be common. Just possible.

Ok, more stuff we don't learn in english classes...

what's a shotgun wedding?

saintlike_ontheoutside
04-06-2009, 03:35 AM
Haha, that is essential vocab!
It's when a young couple, most likely teenagers, have sex and the boy knowcks up the girl and they are forced to get married.

IE Sarah Palin's daughter.

Miss_Gagarin
04-06-2009, 03:43 AM
oh I see

a mariage obligé...

We don't do that anymore, but I think it can be tricky.

A gay one would be awesome!

And now apparently Vermont. But this happened yesterday, I think. I guess I'm late. Well, the article was published yesterday!
The wins are just rolling in, huh?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/gay_marriage_vermont

So we haev Vermont, Connecticut, Iowa, and Massechusets,
Only 46 left to go. -.-

Hey, 4 is progress! We can't expect every state to jump on the bandwagon at once.

What it really needs is a pilot scheme. Everyone's got their own reason to fear, what we need is proof that it won't destroy society, etc.

saintlike_ontheoutside
04-10-2009, 05:01 PM
Yea, because its really logical that as soon as gays get married, the churches will crumble, children will go missing, families will be split. Umph. So logical. x_x

It's mainly misrepresentation from the anti-gay groups that is causing the absurd fears. Like in Cali. they told parents that if they legalized gay marriage, they would teach it in elementary schools.
...
Seriously... Do they even talk about hetero marriage in school?!
Seeing as though lots of kids live with split families and divorced parents, it would be wrong to push the "norm" to young kids who don't live in the "norm"
I hate dumb people.

so after gay marriage is legal can we aim for polygamy?
I think any interference in marriage is unconstitutional

after gay marriage, how about national gay adoption laws? =]

It's illegal in several states, and in some states you have to be married in order to adopt... but in those states gay marriage is illegal.
Tricky bastards.

Wow... They can't even make initials right!

"some people who advocate for same sex marriage aren't happy with same sex couples living as they wish"

As opposed to the NOM, who aren't content with same sex couples living, apparently.

Yeah, I live in Florida, and a lot of people I know want to adopt SO BADLY, and can't. I feel especially bad for the guys, because at least chicks can get artificial insemination.

saintlike_ontheoutside
04-12-2009, 06:06 PM
Well, can't a woman gets pregnant and decides to give her baby up for adoption to a gay couple, or person, especially if shes their friend?

orlandodiychick
04-12-2009, 06:56 PM
In FL, your child is TAKEN AWAY if you're gay and it isn't biologically yours. So if she were to give the baby up to her friend, the baby might be taken to an orphanage or foster home anyway.
