I didn't want to post this yesterday... because I was too tempted to turn it into a gag challenge. (heh)

In other news you might have already noticed, I am not TomSawyer. She has disappeared... so I'm taking over for the month while the search party is sent out.

Short Challenge:
Budget- $5
Make an accessory out of a a pillowcase! Ideas include bags, headwear, jewelry...

Long Challenge:
Budget- $10
Make a piece of clothing out of a sheet! Any size sheet will do.

For both challenges, no other fabric is allowed. You must only use the sheet / pillowcase.

The guest judges this month are: saintlike_ontheoutside, The Angry Hippie, and Kristie6625.

Also, for anyone wishing to be a guest judge for next month, please post here or PM me!

The e-mail link is wrong it goes to the Yahoo! account which is bad. The link to the past challenge winners doesn't work.

Sorry the past link does work

When you say only the sheet, I am assuming that notions and thread are also allowed? Or are we literally only allowed to use the sheet? Would lace be considered fabric? What about bias binding?

glass__onion

notions are allowed! read the rules thread for all the details.

notions are allowed! read the rules thread for all the details.

I have read the rules thread and am still unclear on whether lace would be considered a notion (in so far as it is used as an edging rather than a section of the garment itself) or whether it would be considered fabric and thus not allowable for this challenge, as well as bias-binding. Personally, I consider it a notion, but I could see how, since it is made out of fabric, it would be considered fabric to many people; so I just wanted to be clear on that point before I started in on my idea.

ETA: Ah, I missed the FAQ thread, which has now answered my question. Looks like both are allowable. Sweetness. Sorry about that.

no problem. if you ever have a question about the rules, don't hesitate to ask.

Angry Hippie:
-no sheets of paper. (i would like to see that, though.)
-i'm going to say no as well to making the pillowcase first because the whole point of this contest is to REUSE a pillowcase.
-... aren't you judging?

For the short challenge, can we use stiffening material like cardboard because pillowcases, especially used ones, are made with very flimsy materials...

glass__onion
04-08-2009, 11:08 PM
yes, you can use other materials too, just not other fabrics.

omg. I just came here to look for inspiration. I didn't realise you guys had figured out Project Threadbanger properly ;)

How exciting. It's 7.30p on the 14th here in Australia now, but I have enough time to make something for the short challenge!

EDIT:: YEY! Submitted :)

Hey guys, I'm submitting my entry (yes! I signed up for the forums just to submit!). I read in the rules that you can use one thing from your stash for the project, so I used some stash fabric for lining... hope that's okay. If not, guess I don't mind being disqualified!

Thanks!
Heather

madonna:
either fitted or flat, just not both. no sets.

Any exceptions? I am stranded at college and would love to use my extra set of sheets, but one extra-long twin sheet will not cut it.

I stand corrected! One twin xl sheet had plenty of fabric for my entry - just submitted. I'm so excited, I have been wanting to do ptb for months. (I hope I at least get a mention, my mom's pretty pissed that I sliced up my spare sheets. Piffle.)
