I don't think cross stitching should be for the older generation these days. lets have a cross stitching fest!!!!! ok complete exaggeration but still. i'd actually like to see an episode on cross stitching. maybe someone can cross stitch a pattern on a shirt using underneath a grid pattern. it could be cool.

Cross stitch can be done on any fabric, using waste canvas pinned to the fabric, with the stitching done over that. The waste canvas is simply removed thread by thread when the design is done, leaving your beautiful finished design and lots of people wondering "How'd you do that?" I've not done it on shirts or jeans, but I've used this technique on towels and such. Now you're giving me ideas...

I've been working on a huuuuge project actually involving embroidery stitches, not quite cross-stitch though. I've been decorating old jeans like that, but it's taking ages (er...I'm pretty well covering the whole thing). @___@ Jeans are fairly tough to stitch up.
Also another project for me is stitching artists I love onto the back of a sweater.

Here's (http://crossstitch.about.com/od/wastecanva1/p/wastecanvas.htm) a short tut on using waste canvas. Scroll down on this page (http://www.craftdesigns4you.com/learntostitch.htm) for another. Purchase it at Michael's, Beverly's, Joanne's, or such places where x-stitch supplies are sold. Happy stitching!

a glimpse down memory lane *cue dream montage music*
cross stitching was the first craft i ever learned (i mean besides drawing and gluing). when i was 8 my grandma katie taught me how to do it and gave me a tackle box filled with different colored threads...every color you could imagine. unfortunately i was more excited about arranging all the colors of threads in different color combos than i was with learning how to actually cross stitch. i made a couple small things. but i would get very frustrated if i got a knot in the string and give up. i found it sooo tedious to have to thread the needle so many times....changing to a different color....and another one....and op there's another knot. my mom picked it up and took over the tackle box...she made some beautiful pieces. i wish i had a picture to show you. these things were amazing! like 60 or so different colors of thread used or some crazy sht like that.
and that has been a glimpse down memory lane with corinne. thanks for watching. *bars and tones*

My grandmother taught me how to cross stitch on normal fabric when I was like 5 years old, it was what got me started on my life as a crafty person.
She just drew a design on the fabric using X's and I picked the colors to stitch it, so you don't always need waste canvas (especially if you don't want a "perfect" look). Just take a pencil and draw on the X's for your design and stitch away!

Very true! But waste canvas is quite useful when using a pattern. Also, it's hard to draw on some fabrics, such as terrycloth. The important thing is to stitch!:)
