Not too bad for a 35 year old broad, huh? I rhyme naturally. Hee.
Anyway - the smaller Altoids chewing gum tins are especially great for holding sewing pins. I'd saved a bunch of tins to hold home-made lip balm (which doesn't work!!! It leaks thru the hinges. Please don't try that at home, it won't work and makes a mess. Learn from my mistakes.)
So, I have plenty of little metal pin-boxes for my sewing arsenal.
I've noticed that sometimes the little plastic boxes the pins come in have really lousy lids that just pop open and don't lock at all. Which is STUPID. I don't remember pin-boxes being like that when I was younger? They all used to have hinges and the little plastic lock-y thingy, like an eyeshadow compact does. Grrr. Cheap bastids and their stupid plastic boxes.
And oh - one last tip:
Men's new dress shirts = pins = free sewing pins!!!
Don't toss them! Just get a small dish or a glass ashtray or a tin and collect them. My Gramma (who did bridal and prom alterations from her home) saved a LOT of these over the years, they come in handy when you run out of your "good" pins and just need one more pin to pin up a hem. :) Don't use them on fine silk or satin, though, they might catch and give you pulls. On cotton and stuff like that, it's just fine.
See, sometimes sewing tips are extra guy-friendly! ;)
