OF COURSE!! I love the Beatles... are you going to go see the movie "Across the Universe" ??? It looks really cool! I'm excited!

Oh, story! I was talking to this guy I know, and I was like "I love the Beatles"... And he said "I've never listened to anything by the Beatles"... and I was like "but they're THE BEATLES!! They're CULTURAL ICONS!" and he said "ya, they were cultural icons in England...".................. I wanted to smack him. Apparently, he never heard of the British Invasion.... and apparently he's also living under a rock, since it's literally impossible to go through life without hearing at least ONE Beatles song SOMEWHERE, unless you are living under a rock, or deaf. But then it's not your fault. ya.

I used to like them a lot.

I really like John Lennon's solo stuff. Cold Turkey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtcUEP6goZ0), for example.

Yes. My dear departed uncle H. was a huge John Lennon fan, and I now imagine them both smoking funny cigarettes in heaven together. *g* Supposedly, John Lennon used to hang out in Allentown, PA, because it reminded him of Liverpool, and it was far enough away from the public eye.

My bro fell in love with them due to my uncle H (I think?), and I grew up listening to "The Red Album" and "The Blue Album," so I tend to think of the track listings running that way.

Whenever I run across anyone who hates hates hates HATES The Beatles, I play them "Octupus's Garden" without telling them who it is. Everyone just seems to love that song, even though it's not super Beatles-esque.

I think some people have a knee-jerk reaction against the beatles b/c they hate hippies in general. So, that means they hate Psychedelic bands by default. I don't get it.

George Harrison is under-rated. "Backbeat" was a great movie.

Oh! The little sight-gag during "Hard Day's Night" where John puts up his bottle of Coca-Cola and sniffs it kills meee!!! And I have no clue how they got that past the censors. Brilliant.

I can't believe two things.

Firstly, that there's a Rutles 2 out there.

And more importantly... THAT IT'S NOT AVAILABLE IN THE UK!

In the meantime, I really enjoyed All You Need Is Cash. It hits all the right buttons in terms of Bonzo Dog Doo Band, Beatles, and Monty Python sources.

I just realized that Veoh has entire episodes of Rutland Weekend Television uploaded. (Which I'd heard of, but never seen.)

Well, it's classic British comedy.

So naturally, American nerds'll have it on t'internet.

I like to think it's a combination of two things...

Firstly, music now is much, much, much, more varied than it has ever been before. There's a billion different genres out there vying for attention, and onle a small number gain widespread interest.

Secondly, I think it's easier to pick out classic music from the past simply because nobody remembers the remedial. Check out the 33s at your local thrift store, and don't tell me those aren't from the golden age of music!

On that note... We're not living in the worst musical time ever.

I mean, the 70s had Prog Rock!

And the 80s had... The 80s!

I grew up on the Beatles. Me and my sister would pick them out on the oldies station, and grew to recognize the voices individually. My parents had liked them when they were growing up in the 60s, but never made a push for them. So we're "natural" fans, heheh.

The Beatles are the only band I have always had on my iPod. All other bands are in a constant flux.

If you've never watched The Beatles anthology, you should! It's an amazing compilation of interviews with George Martin, Ringo, Paul, and George (filmed in the 90s I think, so George was still living at the time), starting from the beginning of their career (when they were in their teens in Liverpool) and I haven't finished it yet so I'm not sure how they finish it yet! It's sort of sad, but it's also fascinating and really entertaining. There's like at least 10 hours of stuff I think!
