ok so at work we needed some more corsets, and since i being kinda the only one who can sew, am going to have to make them
ok great
i picked up a pattern at hancock fab ( 99 cents woot!)
and other notions and got to work
13 hours later and omg many many many naughty words, pricked fingers, and many broken pins, and a very angry machine i have this!!!
ok the lacing is my fav part
oh im thinking of making a few to sell on etsy
would you pay $125 for this, or one similar?

it looks like it's well made enough that if i liked the print and were looking for a corset to spend $125 on, it would be worthwhile. but i'm kind of partial to florals.

Great job! I really love the design. Must admit I am not a big fan of character sheets. I would love it in a floral or paisley. I would not pay for a corset. I would just sew one myself if I wanted one. But I am sure a lot of ppl that don't have your skills would pay.

It's beautifull!
No way in heck would I pay 125 dollars for it, but then again I won't buy any piece of clothing if its more than 25 dollars.
It's great, and maybe somebody would buy it for 80-100 dollars? Who knows. Maybe somebody will love it sooo much they buy it for 200! (Clothes do that to people. )

Nice job but you stole my Batman sheets......lol
IDK about 125 for a corset made from sheets but definitely that much for one made of tapestry fabric or velvet.

I just noticed everyone saying they wouldn't pay that much for a corset...
Okay, I started making corsets many years ago when I wanted one and wasn't prepared to pay $400 for one. It looks like it's plastic boned. That puppy set you back 11 hours! I've got it down too five or six hours now... and If someone wants one of mine (custom corset mind you, made of what ever they want) i wont do it for less then $50 an hour (and thats cheap!). People pay it.

Ya know what corsets remind me of? converse. Anyway, great job! It looks funny on a guy. lawl

i couln't afford it for 125$ but maybe 60$ or 55$ would work better:)

Ryan, that's really fantastic!
$125 isn't expensive for a corset-- a quick search on Etsy yielded prices from $75-225. I only went through five pages, though, and there are most certainly more expensive ones. Corsets are a lot of work, and they're time consuming.
For a corset exactly like this one, though, I don't think I'd pay $125--I'd go for around $90. I'm not trying to undermine the time and hard work you put into it at all--I'm just thinking from a buyer's perspective. If you start making them with busks and metal boning (I'm guessing this is plastic?), definitely jack the price up much higher than 125.
I have to say, though, it's illegal to sell things made from commercial patterns. It probably says something about the copyright on the pattern envelope. *shrug* It's highly unlikely that anyone would make a fuss about it if you did, but... yeah.

i figured 125 out by doing hours ( it finally came out to 14) times 6 bucks an hour makes it 84, plus materials, ($17) makes it 101, and for some reason i thought the hours were dif or something, and made it 125 so i guess i could do 100. yes its plastic boning....
i did not know it was illegal to seel stuff made from commercial patterns
thank you very much for the info.
thanks for all of your input addiemarie

indubitably

I would most certainly buy that. I don't know corset prices since I generally don't wear them, but that sounds reasonable.
I knew you were a guy and all but I figured you were going to have a girl wearing it, and then when I saw you're the one modeling... xD
Love it.

You're welcome! The most important thing is that you don't undersell yourself. You can try posting it at $125, and if it just doesn't sell, reduce the price--and advertise that you reduced the price, because people go for that. =) Good luck with everything--I can't wait until you set up your shop & we get to see it!

I have no desire to get into the whole copyright debate, because the whole issue is fuzzy, and there's the thing with cottage licenses that gets blown out of proportion. It says on a pattern envelope I have: "To be used for individual private home use only and not for commercial or manufacturing purposes."
But it's totally up to the sewer--it's true, there probably isn't anyone who will recognize the pattern & call you out on it (and some things you can't copyright--there are only so many ways to make a sleeve, or the curve of a crotch on pants, etc.).
I found this article for further reading: http://www.burdastyle.com/blog/show/388
I don't agree with everything it says, but there are some good points. And I learned something--because Burdastyle is open-source sewing, they publish their patterns without copyright. This means that you can use their patterns to make garments to sell (except in mass production).
*shrug* It's been a highly debated issue for years, and perhaps I was wrong in stating right off the bat that it was illegal. Personally, I prefer to err on the side of caution, but the companies would never go after a small etsy seller, and as I said before, the chances of someone even noticing are slim.
Jeez, sorry if I chatter on too much. It's just an intriguing debate. ^^

one... it's amazingly awesomely done for a first go.
now... price. I can get my leather corsets (and mind you, i'm a big girl) for $130. and while i think yours is completely cool ( i love the man of Batness), i wouldn't pay that much for a fabric corset. I would, however, shell out $80 for it (what i pay for some of my velvet ones).
and an eensy suggestion? add the bat symbol to the front and you have yourself a best seller in the gamer girl department.

i'm paying $250 for a custom made one thats like black satin, but about and inch longer and a bit higher with a busk.
i would so go nuts w/ the $125.
and i mean, it's batman!!!!

Haha, yeah, I get it. And Ryan's a pretty clever guy so I'm sure that if he does decides to design a different corset it'll be even more awesome.
