Hi everyone! I'm new around here.

Anyway, just thought I'd share some things I'd made. Because I've lurked long enough!

So...

A while back I was playing around with the obnoxiously simple sheet music I had left over from being in band in middle school. I made two things: decorated shoes, and headphones that were inspired from looking at way too much steampunk.

I don't know what I did with the headphones, as much as I love them, they seem to have disappeared in the cavernous mess that is my room. But here are the shoes:

In addition to the shoes. OH! I lathered my iPod in the music sheets too. The iPod was unfortunately gobbled up by a rather ravenous Jet Blue airplane. It is sorely missed. These are the only two pictures I have to commemorate it's passing. Goodbye, my angel of music. XD (it's name was Erik)

I like aged copper, can you tell? XD

Also, in the same vein of applying paint and paper to things I had sitting around...I was given a bunch of comics by a guy I had made buddies with behind one of the booths at anime expo a couple of years ago, and as a result had a bunch of free comics. I read them all. Some of them weren't all that re-readable.

So they became this:

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2064/71/104/695120415/n695120415_5571430_3293.jpg
http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2064/71/104/695120415/n695120415_5571431_3611.jpg

The hat used to be blue. :D You can tell in the second picture, as there's a tiny bit of it peeking out.

Then for my film final last semester I wanted to do a short about a robot...a very primitive robot (we had the smallest budget in the class. ^ ^; ). I made this costume:

http://photos-h.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-snc1/v370/71/104/695120415/n695120415_4729943_6222.jpg

I stuffed random chips behind randomly cut out parts of the cardboard. The chips came from a beautifully cathartic day where me and some friends smashed a camera to pieces due to it never being capable of working again.

Close up on the face....er...head. The eye holes aren't so apparent from a distance. XD Or at night time, which is when most of it was shot. The lightbulbs were both dead, though I was thinking of rigging it with working ones so it would light up. I love that I gave it a steel wool moustache. XD

And one last robot pic, in action:

http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2064/71/104/695120415/n695120415_5571435_4931.jpg

Here's the moon on my wall, painted from scratch with no preplanning whatsoever.

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2064/71/104/695120415/n695120415_5571438_5946.jpg

Here's a scarf I finished yesterday. I ran out of yarn, and was too impatient to wait til morning to go back for more, so I used some twine I had left over from the robot movie. Then I went back to the original yarn.

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2064/71/104/695120415/n695120415_5571439_6273.jpg

Oh yeah, it has a watch on it. XD

http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2064/71/104/695120415/n695120415_5571440_6635.jpg
I ran out of yarn a third time because I forgot to realize I needed enough yarn to cast off, so the other end has a blue border, the same blue you see tied near the watch.

Ah, and on that note, here's a very faulty watch I made with the random wire I had lying around:

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v1414/71/104/695120415/n695120415_5025535_33.jpg

I say faulty because I didn't finish it right, so it wasn't easy to take on and off. (i.e. I really should have pulled a clasp off something...which I may do, now that I think about it)

I have more in the vein of actual clothing, but the accessories are the easiest to pull out and show off. :D

...So again, hi everyone!

that stuff is so awesome! i love how you've combined a lot of different things you wouldn't expect to find together, like comics and hats, or watches and scarves.

Really cool stuff!

Pitty about your iPOD, because it really does look fabulous with the music and patina.

That robot is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! The steelwool mustache cracked me up! LMAO

I like the way you worked the twine into the scarf, too... in fact, I think it gives it so much more personality! Is it comfortable to wear? Nice touch with adding the watch, too. T'is a bit steam-punky.

Thank you guys so much!

I got the music on the shoes by a relentless effort with paint and mod podge. I never really know exactly what I'm doing, but I have a lot of random supplies lying around. The particular shade of green I used was a mix of a bunch of different colors, and same goes for the coppery color. I think I put a matte on it to finish it, I have no clue what kind, but yeah.

Oh, and with putting any of the paper on stuff I would dip it in water, then dip it in mod podge, then paint it down with the actual paint. This worked best with the ipod and the hat. I'm trying to work out a better method for putting paper on shoes, because with enough wear the paper on the shoes curls up (my little toesies like to play around in there). Not to mention the paint on the rubber falls off at some point. Oddly enough, none of the paper actually comes off completely, it just starts curling up.

If I have time this next week, I may do the same thing to my spiffy new iPod. Or some other unknowing random object that happens to be lying around. And actually either take pictures of the process or film it. :D

Thanks so much for your comment about the twine in the scarf, TheBonnieRose. I actually like it a lot better with the twine than without. As you said, it has character now. XD It's really pretty comfortable. I make sure not to wear it where it's going to hit the front of my neck, since that's the most sensitive part. But it seems to be fine on the back or off to the side. And since it's so stiff, you can pull it up to cover your face a little bit too. :D

OMG...I'm not the only person in the world who has read "The Phantom of the Opera."

NO WAY! Erik rocks (as a Phantom and as an amazingly gorgeous iPod).
