Well let's start with some pictures!

I saw these shoes the other day and thought just how unique they looked! That is until I saw the price tag... These sneaks can go for anywhere from $500 to upwards of a GRAND! That's is extreme for some glorified chucks! So I am determined to DIY my current $20 chucks into something unique like this! I've never done anything with tailoring shoes, so I'm coming here for advice before I start shredding and trying to make this:

into something like this:

My ideas so far include a complete tear down of all canvas and dying the soles. Then finding comfortable fabric cutting it to match the original canvas and adding unique features like zippers and other details. The difficult part being that I have no idea how to begin sewing it back onto the sole! Not to mention the whole question about the toe cap...

[ugh just noticed I was in the wrong subforum...halp!]
