Just kidding, I actually made this a month ago but I never got around to photographing it or feeling up to posting. I'm gonna put an excess of information here, why? because I feel like it. But I thought it would be polite to post a warning.

Anyways this is the first piece I made entirely including the pattern. I got the idea from a halter top that I saw a ridiculously long time ago but had a design that stuck with me through all this time. Its sewn around the neck but the bottom half has extra long tying straps that wrap around and then tie in the front.

About half way through I was tempted to leave it just like it was because I liked the way the wrap around half looked worn just as a belt, but then I thought to myself no I started to make a halter top so I'm going to finish a halter top, so I did. I still have a lot fabric left over, enough to make another belt type thing so I might in the future. I was thinking about variations and maybe if I did do it again I would use old ties for the ends of the straps. Or something like that. maybe rope. but anyways I'm took a pic of it like that and I'm posting it here because it shows the tying wrap around bit better than my other pic.

But I continued on with the actual halter bit basically I just sorta experimented with some darting and then I was finished and voila the final piece.

Right when I was done with it I thought it might be too revealing and that made me a bit nervous so I asked my dad. He thought it looked less likely to fall off than my bikini top and I thought he made a really good point so I don't worry about wearing it anymore. :D Its been really great for the final hot days of August. Maybe I'll make another one in spring but right now its way too close to winter.

really nice work, beautiful fabric...

have you considered wearing it over a shirt or a t-shirt for winter?

Yes I have a few t shirts it would probably work well with, but its just not cold enough at the moment where for me to be experimenting with layers

It's very flattering! What a good job. And, yeah, your dad's right, some of those string bikini tops are much smaller. I really love the fabric, it's really elegant. Maybe you could do a matching skirt?

A skirt might be beyond my skill level, or at least it sounds intimidating enough at the moment. I made a really sweet bag out of some of the extras and some other fabric I had lying around. I'll post a couple pics of that eventually.

Very nice job indeed! That's pretty cool. And yeah, wearing it doesn't seem SO revealing at all, and it looks pretty classy so it's not vulgar (sp?) at all. And yes, I think it could look nice over a shirt. ^^

Imma have to agree with allot of ppl here. I dont think it to revealing at all. For some reason I am really drawn to the ties. Its the actual tie end look effect (mens neck tie) on the halters front tie.
Funny really cause, at least on me it draws attention down away from your chest and towards to your waist line.
Good effect.

Thanks for the compliment and for actually explaining why its not revealing. The way you put it makes a lot of sense actually, but hadn't thought about it that way before so thank you for sharing that.

Ooh I love it!
how'd you do the straps at the bottom?
err..
I mean, did you make the bottom short, and THEN add the straps? or did it somehow... >.< I'm bad at this, sorry

What I did was sew two very long triangles that tapered into the straps together at their bases
Something like this but not as computer keyboard-ee looking:
<========<][>========>.
So the straps at the bottom were not added afterwards and if they're untied they're is only the strap behind the neck to hold the halter up and the bottom bit does nothing. So it needs to be tied.

it looks really great. as far as revealing goes, its not that bad, especially if you are already comfortable in a bikini. besides the whole concept of "too revealing" is relative... so kindergarten class = too releaving hot new club opening = sexy cool halter :P

I really love the fabric as well. it has a really great look to it.
