Hey there Threadbangers! You wouldn't believe my surprise when I woke up and started watching this weeks Threadbanger on my TiVo. Pow! There was the quilt I made for my dog, Kyra.

This was the first quilt I ever made! I've been itching to make a quilt for years now, and when my old dog blanket finally got too shredded to wash, I started work on this "puppy". You can't really see it in this photo, but the squares all have pet themes. The yellow is kittens playing with yarn, the white is dogs with bones, the tan is dogs and cats. The blue is fruit, which my dog just loves to lick.

As you can see, I made it a little smaller than most quilts, because it has to fit between my bed and the dresser, where my dog sleeps on her dog bed. The backing is soft flannel (with a print of dogs and bones) and I used some 1/4" batting to round it out. As an aside, I used a 2nd layer of the flannel to back the top, and sewed diagonally down the top to keep Kyra (my 12 year old dog) from ripping it apart. She has a very cute habit of getting underneath blankets and pillows all by her self, scratching at them until they ruffle up and then nosing her way under them. Super cute.

Oh, and I'm still smiling, on cloud nine, about suddenly seeing my own project on Threadbanger! I would just like to clarify that I'm male, and "her" in my Flickr posting refers to my dog, Kyra.

Thanks again! I'm so inspired, that I think I may make a 2nd quilt for my twin sister in Baltimore. Then, I'll be able to put a 2nd post on my new blog, http://gamehendge.org/Seers_Blog

I saw your quilt too :D
Cute idea! I'd make one for my cat but she sleeps on our beds haha.
Congrats on being on the show ^_^

Thanks Vikki32, I'm buzzed. I didn't submit this until after I saw the show. I just tagged my Flickr photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/onegiantleap/3003844595/) "threadbanger", and that was enough! Good timing, I guess.

I did the whole project on my Elna Automatic, which was given to me by my good friends Errol (http://www.flickr.com/photos/31552558@N07/)'s mom, Donna, who fixes sewing machines on the side. Errol has some cute little crochet stuffed animals (http://www.flickr.com/photos/31552558@N07/), which I believe started as a few small ovals as cat toys and has turned into something complete fun and awesome. Check them out if you have a second.
