Got any ideas for thrifty male DYI fashion? I'm a avid thrift store rummager and wanna make something neat. I'm using my next paycheck to make a completely new outfit too so...be creative (not to mention sexy)

Da list:
Shoes
Top
Jeans
Belt maybe?
NO HATS (they look weird on me...T_T)
accessories is a plus haha
Geeky Retro is good (I <3 the 80's/90's)

BTW I have a supposed "heavier" figure so be mindful of that!! haha (more to love<3)

DYI - Do Yourself In?

Well, my feelings about the 80s aside...

With all due respect, my suggestion would be for you to take a little time, look at the stuff on the forum, look on Instructables, look at the shows, and the links, and see what ideas and projects you like.

But the onus is on You. That's Y we do DIY!

-_- oh poo, I just wanted you guys to do everything for me (I'm joking of course), I've seen instructables and succored their stuff buy many times the clothing is geared to women (um, I'm thinking of drag but not right at the moment XD) lol srry about the DYI, I'm dyslexic (or at least I'm trying to convince myself I am.)

But seriously, it's all about what you want to do.

No matter what the gender-specifics of a project, it could always lend you inspiration. Beyond that, the only limitation is your imagination!

Personally, my main mods are simple. I take off the left back pocket on jeans, and usually open up the knees a bit. I like to put my skull logo on them, and take off all the labels too.

Shirts are generally fine, but for gigs, a vest is better, and it doesn't take long.

And shoes.... Are tricky. It depends on what kind of shoes you've got in mind.

Ah yes, I remember keeping it simple usually helps keep a seemingly good project/idea from becoming a monster O_o haha i know so well (shiver)

Just came back from my local Goodwill with a vest and nice purple/black striped button up shirt.

I'm picky about shoes but I think I'll op to buy some plain white sneeks and do a neat design with sharpies. Actually I'm doing a pair for my friend as well, she want s a Pon & Zi design ^_^

Oh, question on spray paint and stenciling. I want also make a personal logo, any tips? Keep it simple of course :P

Logo? I would suggest you pick some sort of symbol or image that sums you up--sort of a trademark--and go from there. Doesn't have to be complicated...in fact this is probably a case where less is definitely more.

my best tip: if you find something that fits you PERFECTLY, buy it. even if you don't like the fabric.
take it home, rip the seams, and make a template.
then remember every time you're shopping that almost any pattern or color you come across in a larger size can be snatched up and diy'd into one of the more welcome additions to your closet for the paltry cost of thread.

OMG that's genius!!! Thanks!!! I'll get myself a shirt just for that. I was also thinking about making a duct tape form for myself, cuz I still wanna experiment with different designs. Good tip though <3 You are officially my new best friends thread heads!!!

Me? well i'm a fan of the tacky blazer/sportscoat, they seem to be the most prominent type of coat at my local goodwill ( you know the type with the thick "knit" texture) once you find one you like that fits, go to town with it, screenprint something on it, sew something onto the back, (if you are ambitious, get another coat and "frankenstein" it, or embroidersomething onto it) for shoes..., well bowling shoes pwn.

I <3 bowling shoes... I can't find them for some reason... O_o no offense to my local goodwills but it's so small and lack spice...I miss my Thrift store on my street...they closed down cuz of renting issues...they had so much stuff...also cheaper that goodwill n savers... O_-

I have done the blazer route.. I actually made a blazer hoodie out of two old pairs of clothing. I'll put it up in a moment.

So here is what I've come up with a logo, something simple and text only to stencil.

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u86/francisco_sj/Circa_88.jpg

Circa translates to about
and I was born 1988 so haha simple enough!

So I would cut out all the black parts umm..I don't think I have any islands so that won't be a problem. I'll make up a simple graphic for stenciling later. Something reminicent of my alter ego maybe :P It'll be up soon.

wait before you cut add some connector lines on the eights ~ unless you want the circles to just be all color instead of just outlined

Another Logo concept, this time using the word PinO (short for pinoy or Filipino and parts of the Philippine flag. What do you think guys? http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u86/francisco_sj/pino_logo.jpg

hahaha, that's great.
if you want to add a subtle touch to button-downs and the like or fancy trousers, make a small version to do a collar tip or just below the front pocket. you know, to keep it classy.

Good suggestion, I tend to have a problem with placement when it comes to stencils!!! TY again!!

As for the new logo stencil,

it's nice, but you don't need a bridge in the N, and maybe the bridges in the O could be made into part of the design?

What I used was a online font I found and I kept the O the same type of bridge as the other letters to keep the continuity. I thought...there was a bridge on the N? Am I seeing things? lol O_o seriously is there? :(

Uh... Yeah.

On the left hand side of the N.

That's what the white space is for...

And it's really not needed. It could be considered an improvement over a plain N, but at the same time that depends on how delicate your stencil is.

If you're using an online font, there're a wealth of interesting fonts out there - for example, here's the Stencil section of DaFont.com ("http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=114) and while they aren't all suitable for actually making into stencils, they are quite interesting.
