I found out last summer how to make an awesome zombie costume, and I thought I'd share, being it's Halloween and all.

Here's the scoop: What you need is some red paint (doesn't HAVE to be fabric), one of those painting sticks they give out in stores for free, a fair sized painting brush (about two inches across of bristles), a jar of liquid latex, pale face makeup, fake blood from your local Halloween store, some black creme makeup and eyeshadow, red lip glaze, a small makeup brush, a rolls of toilet paper, a good pair of scissors and a tee shirt (oversized works best) you won't miss that much.

First: Take your tee shirt and cut some slashes through it. Don't make it TOO ripped, otherwise it's just look like you went through a lawnmower. Make the cuts fairly spaces, and anywhere from two to six inches long. Try to avoid cutting the sides, so the fitting doesn't get messed up and uncomfortable.

Next: Take your shirt outside. Whip on the ground a bit to give it that worn and beaten effect. Maybe kick it a couple of times. Do this until you're satisfied with your effect. (NOTE: WATCH OUT FOR MUD :) )

After that, come back inside and lay your shirt down flat on the table. Make sure to put paper towels or newspaper down, because this part can be incredibly messy. Now, dip the paint stick in about two inches. Now, flick the wrist and fling little bits of paint spatter onto your shirt. Do this two or three times. If you want the blood on thicker: take a small brush and glob it on. But honestly, the flinging of the paint works best.

Let the shirt dry for about a half hour to an hour (ask a clerk about how long it takes to dry when you buy it). Then repeat the pain process for the back.

Now for the makeup:

First, cover your face and neck in pale makeup. Do this with a makeup sponge to it comes out even looking. I suggest the pale makeup sticks better than the mixes, mostly because they have a lot more and is a lot less messy (if it was possible).

Next, take your makeup sponge and add a little black under the eyes for a baggy look. Add black eyeshadow on top for the look of sunken-ness. Be sure to blend the black evenly with the pale, so don't add too much.

Then, add some dark red lip glaze (plain is preferred, no gloss) with a small brush. Go over your "lip lines" just the tiniest bit when putting it on. This is not where you use the fake blood. It's for the next part.

Now for the wounds:

I HIGHLY suggest you get your shirt and such on before this, and eat, drink, do whatever you have to do before this process because I've seen it take up to an hour, and that's not fun. It's well worth it in the end though.

First, choose where you're going to put the wound. I'll write demos for purn marks, ax wounds, and eyes falling out.

Next, take little bits of toilet paper and roll them into one centimeter balls. Place the ball on the face and hold it. Take your fairly sized paint brush and put liquid latex on it. Cover the ball in liquid latex. Make sure to go over the ball and onto the skin. This should stick after you hold it a second. Repeat this over, and over, and over. This is very time consuming, but is well worth it in the end. (ALSO NOTE: your wound should be an obscure shape if you're doing burns. Ax should be a large line across the face from about a centimeter above your lip to about 1.5 above your eyebrow)

For and eye hanging out: Make an eyepatch almost from squares of toilet paper. This should fit just under the eyebrow, past the corners of your eyes, and to about a centimeter and a half before your nose ends (downward, not to the tip). Make this patch fairly thick and liquid latex it to the eye you'd like. (NOTE: You can also make the patch by almost paper macheing it over your eye with the liquid latex.) Then, roll up one piece of the toilet paper into a .3 cent. cylinder. This must be flexible, yet sturdy. Liquid latex that to the patch, point downwards and sticking forwards. Then: Make a 1.5 centimeter ball with the toilet paper. Cover it with liquid latex, and white paint or the pale makeup. Then, latex it to the end of the roll from before. Hold it for two minutes, until it sticks.

Then: Cover your wounds in pale makeup, once they're dry. Don't rush; do this carefully (especially with the eye).

Last, fill the inside of the wounds with fake blood, and a tad of black creme in the creases.

And then, you're done!

I hope my tutorial on zombie makeup and costume helped someone, and I'm gonna try and post pictures soon (if I can find them).
