View Full Version : Vent / Rant: Sarah Palin

It is more than just news clips and opinions. Sarah Palin is vile. Maybe it's my liberal mind speaking, but anyone that can feel okay about shooting a wolf from an airplane, force her daughter to marry, give a big "Fuck You" to kids with special needs, and not know anything about how politics work, should NOT be one breath away from being President of the United States. John McCain made a really poor choice as his first Presidential decision in choosing Sarah Palin. He creates ditties about Bombing Iran, has ridiculous ideas about the problems in Russia (which Sarah Palin seems to think she can see from her house) and thus puts the country in grave danger. She could be our next president and she can't say Nuclear (didn't we learn what happens when an elected official can't pronounce important words?)
He mocks and betrays levels of disrespect for the office of the Presidency by selecting Gov. Sarah Palin.
She bans books, she will not protect any woman's right to choose, will force rape victims to pay for any testing, and will even tax those survivors. She will continue the brutal killing of innocent animals, loves Moose-burgers, and has 5 children who need her more than we do. She doesn't even know what the Bush Doctrine is! She thinks dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago, if they existed at all, thinks evolution should not be taught in school. She believes abortion should be illegal EVEN in cases of rape and incest. She wants to destroy our planet by drilling in the last piece of beauty we have, either off shore or in our wildlife domains. Palin never even left the country until 2007! BP (the oil company) even funded her inauguration! Sarah Palin supports the aerial murder of wolves and will even pay you a bounty for bringing her the limb of one of the innocent victims. She believes that abstinence only should be taught. She fired her Police chief because he argued with her (which probably will get me blacklisted for writing this). She even had an employee of the state charge her with an ethics violation (of which she was found guilrty!). She doesn't like people who are not white (blond hair and blue eyes? Hello Hitler!) or heterosexual.
She thinks our founding fathers wrote the Pledge of Allegiance. She is not ready to be VP, let alone President come the day McCain kicks the bucket.

Why must Caribou Barbie haunt every aspect of my life
She's not pretty enough to be a Barbie. Maybe a G.I. Joe girl... but I'd hate to put those poor G.I.'s through that.
Btw, props on the rant. I agree completely. McCain only chose her to try to scoop up the woman vote from Hilary's leftovers.

I feel the same. This guy at my school likes Sarah Palin and started putting up stickers with her name on it. God, I'm so glad 90% of my school are too young to vote, 7% can vote but don't care, and the rest, 3% will hopefully vote for Obama.

Yeah, Palin makes me sick to my stomach. McCain really screwed up that one. What REAL experience is ANYONE going to have being the govn. of Alaska? Sorry Alaska, but seriously? No. With McCain being a heart attack away from the death bed, I REALLY don't want that woman running the country. I will move to Canada if it comes to that because... just no way in hell.

I am not going to agree or disagree with you just now, as I have not yet been convinced that either candidate is exactly what I am looking for in a president. I would, however, like to point out something.
You say that Sarah Palin "doesn't even know what the Bush Doctrine is!" I can only assume that you are referring to her interview with ABC's Charles Gibson. After Gibson's initial "do you agree with the Bush doctrine?" question, Palin was absolutely right to request clarification by saying "in what respect, Charlie?"
The term "Bush doctrine" was coined by Charles Krauthammer in 2001 (three months before 9/11) in a Weekly Standard article of the same title. He himself has said that the term has evolved three or four times since he first used it.
In the initial article he suggested that it referred to Bush's dramatic change in foreign policy at the time.
Then, after 9/11 the term came to mean Bush's " 'With us or against us' " policy regarding terror.
Later, it referred to Bush's views etc... regarding preemptive war.
Most recently, it has alluded to a general "spread democracy" (my words) philosophy.
Palin was right to request clarification. The phrase is too new to have any one set meaning. It's author himself says that there is no single definition. In fact, he wrote a whole article on it. If you would like to read it, you can find it here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/12/AR2008091202457.html
Based on the interview's following dialogue, it simply cannot be said whether or not she knows what the "Bush doctrine" is. Charles Gibson, however, did not display a great amount of expertise on the subject, either.
Since this seems to be a thread where we all express (or "vent/rant" :) ) our opinions, I thought it would be alright for me to point that out.

honestly, I don't think this is the right website to talk about politics. I am not saying I am voting for mccain, but people can get offended by what someone says.

Maybe you're right, but at the same time, we can all see different things, and all being DIYers, we're like a family. This is under the Misc. Chit-Chat section for a reason. It doesn't have to do with the show, with anything about DIY, but a rant/vent.
This isn't exactly the best website to discuss music or anything else NON-DIY, but we do it. Politics is just another thing that does upset me about Americans and their Puritan outlooks (Don't discuss sex, religion, and politics)
For those that do live in America, politics are what define you. I don't understand why they aren't being talked about more. I would love for this rant to continue, to hear all sides (hopefully) and let people make up their own minds. American's should be able to use Freedom of Speech whenever and wherever they feel like it.
Here's what I think about Sarah Palin. If you don't like what I've wrote, disagree, or close the link and move on.
I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, but I'm not sorry about how I feel.

and she can see Russia from her house! ok no help
im a junior high-er so i cant vote. BUT i still do have conversations about presidential candidates w/ friends. we all watch the presidential debate as homeowork, so ur not hearing this from a 9 year old who knows nothing (im not 9) generally i wouldn't care. but in the 2 elections im voting (eek!) so im paying attention. and over all i've come to a conclusion. dont vote. really obama had 4 months of experience (rest of the time he was campaigning) and sarah palin is a retard (no offence to her voters) and john mccain is old. ok well that was all useless...
i have no clue what i just said :o:p:confused::rolleyes:

To this point - yes, we should be able to say whatever we want, but, we do have to say it in such a way where we don't incite major problems or thread lock downs. The problem that I see happen a lot anywhere (but especially online because of the anonymity) is that people just "yell" what they think and refuse to listen to what anyone else has to say.
One thing that bothered me about what you said above is how you generalize all Americans. That "all" Americans have Puritan views. What makes you come to this conclusion?
Personally, I don't know too many people who have problems discussing sex, religion, or politics. And I live in the Bible Belt!
Also, I don't think politics define a person. Why is it just in America that politics define a person?
As far as the election goes... I'm choosing not to vote.
I don't follow it closely enough to have a solid opinion, and, what I do follow, I'm not pleased with either candidate.
As to your comment that Palin "doesn't like people who aren't white or heterosexual"... is there proof of that? Like, did she say that? (I honestly don't know).

I'm from France and am currently going to school in Colorado, and my time here has shown me that MOST Americans have puritan views. It was not intended to generalize ALL Americans, but be honest, how many times have you heard my nationality made the butt of a joke for the sake of generalizing. Apologizes if you were offended, but thank you for not fitting the mold!
Personally, I don't know too many people who have problems discussing sex, religion, or politics. And I live in the Bible Belt!
I lived in Mississippi for about 2 years for a different schooling, and I think you're pretty lucky to have that! I didn't. That's for sure! The Bible Belt was VERY difficult for me to even protest. And was actually blacklisted in the state for speaking out.
Also, I don't think politics define a person. Why is it just in America that politics define a person?
It's not, it's just throughout my world travels, America is the one country that shy's away from their government. Again, not a generalization, just an observation.

I have heard and read, and will def. find some stuff for you (trying to steer clear of all the bias is the hardest part!

Ahh okay, I understand. No, I wasn't offended at all, just honestly curious as to who/what/where led you to that generalization. :) And touché, about generalizing France. ...That's almost a completely unintentional bad joke. Onwards!
I try not to fit the mold ;)

I consider myself incredibly lucky! My mother is one of very few ...shall we say, closed minded folks that I know. And as for getting blacklisted?! Wow, that's..incredibly stupid! For speaking out! *disgust*
I don't so much... protest the Bible Belt vocally or what have you, but, being a gothy/punky type (used to have a mohawk) who's agnostic and has both a boyfriend and a girlfriend.. I think I speak out enough without saying a word.
It's not, it's just throughout my world travels, America is the one country that shy's away from their government. Again, not a generalization, just an observation.
Ahhh okay. And again for me, just curiosity. I've never been out of the country, though spoken to others outside of the US.

Thanks so much! *laughs* The bias is always a hard thing to avoid, but, as long as you try, you get cookies. :D

My 2 cents on Sarah Palin:
I don't watch tv much at all but what I have seen frightens me about McCain and Palin. He is not in good health (heart problem, melanoma. and age) and she just strikes me as incredibly naive. She didn't travel outside the US until 2007, her family is a mess. She has been married twice, her kids range in age from early 20's to an infant, her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and her current husband is a snowmobile racer. If she manages the country like she does her life, I'm a bit concerned. I'm not saying that being married several times is a bad thing and niether is having a lot of kids, it just is rather chaotic especially with the huge gap in ages of her children. As a career choice snowmobile racing doesn't strike me as a good choice for the spouce of a politician.
Unfortunately, I don't really know enough about either canadate or their platforms to make an informed decision. I probably won't be voting but I'll decide when the time comes. I can say that the next 4-8 years are going to be very interesting and thank the gods that I'm not fresh out of high school or it would be terrifying. At 40 this stuff is scarry enought but I've been around long enough that I can handle about anything.

its not just a information deluge site about diy, it is also a community. that is why there is a chit chat bit. everything in your life effects, and affects your art so i think it is well appropriate to discuss current events. if people get offended, Grand! it may be the catalyst for some wicked art, design and fashion. Go creepy dreanged look in her eye palin! in reactionary fashion, look what she inspires. peoplehonestly, I don't think this is the right website to talk about politics. Ugh ...Palin.... I cant stand her, she is the most anti woman I have EVER heard of. Pro life to such an extreme that she wants to take choice away from every American woman, anti real sex ed, and against all programs promoting safe sex (even though her child is preg) opposes the use of plan B after a rape, not to mention that she thinks the rape victim should pay for their exam...I could go on and on. Do i even need to talk about her lack of exsperiance?
